This spell is SO fun to use! Especially good when you are up against somone with a similar build, or just to annoy them.

I love it when you steal an elite skill or one that you know is important to their build, just imagining the looks on their faces when they realise they can't use it for 29 seconds...
Miss Innocent
Is this skill availible from a quest? Or do you have to buy it?
Circuitloss
This is fun spell to use. Espcially in PvP. The problem being that you usually don't have any points in whatever the attribute is...but you still deny them access to the spell for quite awhile.
You can buy it from the skills guy in Amnoon Oasis.

So does this give the enemy this spell, so they could cast it back at me? If that's the case, than I would really avoid using this on mesmers seeing as how they could hit me back just as hard, but it would work very well against any non-mesmer as they could only disable a spell for 5 seconds instead of 29.

Not at all. They just get a random spell disabled.
Vermilion Okeanos
The random are actually not so random...
If you echo + arcane echo + arcane thievery and steal 3 times in a row... you will end up disable only one of their skill... to actually disable and steal 3 different spells, you will need to wait for the opponent to use a new skill after you already stolen one. And if the opponent use no skill for awhile... you can expect to steal the same thing over and over within 20-30 sec.
That was how it was from my experience a month or two back.

does anyone know whether you can get monster only spells like worm seige with this?
Vermilion Okeanos
no you can't... those monster skills aren't spell.
I suppose that is why they don't give us a skill that can steal all skills... they dont want us to use monster skills.

You could steal all 8 with 8 ATs, but the odds are 1 in 256.
Check the thread in the campfire.

It really doesnt matter. Make any (good) build, pick a spell and take it out. Look at the build again, and invariable it looks a lot suckier. Ocasionally you might pick out a 'fringe' skill, like heal other on a boon monk, but still, they arent going to heal their entire team with just orison. I love this skill.

This skill is particularly useful against single spell wonders, like the infamous WD/AS W/E; you always get his aftershock, as it's his only spell, shutting his damage dealing way down. Also a nice one for a Mo/Me to pack, as you can target an opposing healer, reduce him by a slot and gains back (nearly guaranteed) a spell you can use. .
Findariel
It's a very fun spell, always a surprse what you're going to get
Sadly, it doesnt work on any monster skills, tried it on Glint but to no avail.
I was very curious how crystal hybernation would work on me.
(Watrels Worry is magnificent for killing Glint btw)
As stated, in PvP it's also rather useful. You can disrupt skill combos and steal the monks spam skill.

I assume this skill cant steal elites if you already have one equipped right?
For example you have echo(e) and you cast this, take someones elite and it fails?

ive been playing with a fun build some in RA arenas lately using this skill.
its totally random and to be honest it sucks but its a lot of fun to use cause its different everytime. basically you just use all the copy/steal skill spells:
-arcane thievery
-arcane mimicry
-inspired echantment
-inspired hex
-arcane echo
-echo
-usually something for energy management like power drain or something
-rez sig if your nice but since this is pretty much a joke build you can really have whatever
i think that the steal skill spells should steal the skill and have it at the attribute level of the person you stole it from. that would actually make arcane thievery and the inspired spells more useful and they would be much more fun to use (although you might have to tone down on some of the other effects to balance it).

For example you have echo(e) and you cast this, take someones elite and it fails? Thers no rule that says you cant have 2 elites equiped.
Theres just a rule that says you cant MANUALLY equip two elites IN AN OUTPOST.
You can still steal elites, or sig of cap them nomatter what elites you already have/

What is great is combining this skill with diversion, guilt and shame( I think those are them) so the enemy REALLY can't function. Use it on a healer and watch them scream.
whatnow?
this skill's main use is to disable a random spell from the opponent. the fact that you get it for 20 odd seconds is only a bonus as you rarely have any attributes for the spell in order for it to have any effect.

As a spell may be disable for 29 seconds and Arcane Thievery recharge time is 10 seconds, I have the doubt whether if casting Arcane Thievery a second time (a) it will disable additionaly another spell, -thus making two spells disable at the same time-, else (b) it will disable another spell enabling the spell previously disable.
Which way does it work, (a) or (b)?
P.S.: Thank you to Mercury Angel below for the explanation; then it is 29 seconds + 10 seconds until one can use Arcane Thievery again (unless one is using Echo, ...).

The only thing bad with this spell as well as Inspired Hex, Inspired Enchantment, and Arcane Mimicry is that if you steal/copy a spell from Guild Wars: Factions and you do not own Factions you will not be able to use it. To be able to use to its full potential you need both campaigns. Sure you may think of it as a bonus feature to just use the skill. But what about being able to save your allies by stealing Shield of Judgement and casting it.
What do you guys think? Should owners of just one of the two campaigns not be able to "copy/steal" and use the skills? Is this a bug or was it intended?
Sure I love the knowledge of not having to buy every single expansion but is this fair? I just want some opinion.

This can be pretty evil if you steal the only spell the enemy got - like Aura of Displacement or Shock... :P

I was pretty happy when in Fort Aspenwood mission I stole Flesh Golem from an invading Necro....a lvl 4 golem is pretty useless but nevertheless fun!
Question - has anyone ever stolen Arcane Thievery with Arcane Thievery?

stealing arcane thievery, lol, that would be nice, almost as nice as interrupting an interrupt^^

When I used the stolen copy on them the spell activated...then just sort of stopped right as my avatar started the motions of the spell animation...
Which Means you can't Steal A skill with a Stolen Skill, if that makes ANY bit of sense...I guess theres just too much coding at work there.
