Where are the updates?
suzumebachi
We haven't had a new Game update in two weeks! What the problem is? I'm still waiting for my damn 15k druid armor...
Yorrix
Maybe they're waiting until we're a bit more appreaciative. Who knows. *Shrugs.*

we don't know what will happen tomorrow, keep your pants on.

Arena-Net seems to be Damned if they Do..and...Damned if they Don't...
It is a great game so far.

Then again, no one is entirely happy all of the time.
Did the OP actually think that maybe they are putting in the finishing touches to the major update instead of all these small updates in between every week?
Personally, I would rather have them focus on the major update and look forward to all the goodies that will bring.

Why is everyone so eager to share this "Christmas morning dissapointment" sydrome with everyone? I mean come on like RTSFirebat says....
...
Just enjoy the game, and anything extra is a bonus, then you wont get so huffy when you cant make your little man look Purdy...

They are transitioning from "fix this problem" to "implement this neat-o (tm) feature". Implementation of a new feature or area requires much much more testing, because new stuff introduced to the game can mess up what's already there. There are still problems to fix, but they are becoming fewer and fewer.
I bet Wednesday we'll see the refund points for PvP problem adressed. It's a pretty easy, and non-controversial, issue to deal with. There's not much else I could table that I consider a "problem" with the game, other than purely asthetic problems (like my newly revived henchmen being called a corpse until you cursor over their name).
Expecting weekly updates is counter-productive. They'll update us as they get the job done. If they "have to" come up with something each Wednesday, they will be putting out trash, and we wouldn't like that now... right?

I'm hoping that this is like the calm before the storm, but in reverse. Perhaps a month long lapse in updates will mean that the next one will be a big one... not just a big one, but THE big one that we're waiting for It is summer after all

This is starting to sound like all the HL2/CS/Steam people
Andy_M
While I appreciate the points made and respect that the last update was fairly major, why are people calling this a free game ? Dunno about you lot but i paid cold, hard cash for my copy.
Kuku Monk
I paid cash, but it was neither cold nor hard. They think since you don't have to pay monthly and since mommy and daddy bought it for them that it is free.
drowningfish999
Because you don't have to pay every month, once you buy it, you can play as long as you want. Most online RPG games like this charge a monthly few. Since there is no charge, it's the same as buying an offline game, except you get a bonus.
I really don't understand the huge obsession with updates, you aren't paying for them, so don't complain. It's like complaining your house doesn't get painted for free every week.

Relax. They put out an update most Wednesdays. ANet puts out updates much faster than every single other company I know. If this was WoW, you'd be saying, "We haven't had a new Game update in two months!"

It took two weeks to implement the last patch, skipping *one* weekly update since they went live. After the last patch they deserve a break.
And even still no one knows if they're busy making just as big an update for PvE. So keep your pants on.
Some of you people seem to think that coding and testing new features into a game is easy. Like the man above said, if this were any other online game we'd be waiting *months* for an update.

And as for other games, like WoW, while it may take months, their stuff bore fruit.

Also *deserving* a break does not mean they actualy *got* one. Read the rest of the post, I also mentioned the possibility of them working on another huge update, which is much more likely.

I believe that is the fault of ANet for giving the players the impress that they frequently updating to correct mistakes and update content. |

And you need to read the rest of my post.
Oh yeah, it's their fault for doing too good of a job!
At what time in this post did one say they weren't?
Now they must suffer the wrath of the impatient players they themselves have wrought!
It's their own fault for advertising themselves as a weekly updating game.

Forget CaptainGuru, he needs to give a negative comment in every thread he comes across, its what he does.
They are allow to take a break if they like, they aren't machines and hats off to them, the game has some things to be added but it will come in time.
I'm happy with the content already in the game

He's one of those "No matter how many good things they do, I'll never forgive those two mistakes!" types. The grass is always greener, yadda yadda yadda..
He just better not ruin the awesome monkey thread in the making!

I think that because of this thread, ArenaNet is going to wait until August for the next update, and temporarily shut their site down. Good job guys. You all screwed us over!!!
But guys, would you prefer that they not make weekly updates? They don't have to, but they do because they respond to the community. Don't like it? Take your copy of Guild Wars back to the store and sell it back to them.

Main problem? We live in an "instant gratification" world. Whoever said "Patience is a virtue" is probably spinning in their grave.
Take your time AN! Give us a polished, finished update. We can wait.

Reading some of this thread reminds me of kids in a candy store.
I want, I want, I want, I want, I want, I want, I want.
If only they understood the meaning of patience, then maybe they would realise that better things can come if they only learn to wait.

My point was about the level of criticism required for the original post. It wasn't as if the point made was a particularly overpowering point requiring extreme mental hypothesis and meditation.
The original post is essentially an 'I want' post. Where as, yes this is the place for game wants, it's supposed to be a place to express constructive ideas for the progression of the game. I agree that any product needs constructive criticism; it's the way they improve. Certainly from my own perspective I have added my constructive criticism to several posts here. 'Where are my updates,' is not constructive, however. Its an 'I want' post, and that in itself is child like.
Yes, even MacDonald’s take criticism. However, "your burgers suck," will never the less be thrown in the bin. A criticism such as, "I have noticed recently that your burgers contain a lot more gherkin in them, and personally I preferred them before this change," is constructive criticism and will be looked into. I would like to state I like the pickled gherkin in MacDonald’s burgers; I don't understand why people take it out.
The original complaint is that, for two weeks (yes, read it, two) they haven't produced an update. Is this because they have abandoned the game? No, far from it, and certainly far too short a time to complain about the lack of updates without any message of abandonment. There are any number of reasons I could think for complaining about the lack of updates. Complaining that a fatal error is not fixed after a month of no updates is a legitimate reason; complaining that your 15k armour isn't l337 enough, after two weeks in a long line of weekly updates there is no update, when we know ANet are working on a free expansion (fact, check their news items) is not a legitimate reason.
I'm not saying don't criticise, in fact I believe the opposite. All I am saying is to express patience and for any criticism made to be valid and constructive. So, you may wish to think twice before criticising people so blindly.

I noticed lately while commuting to work that the Freeways do not seem as busy. Then it dawned on me it is July and people are on vacation. Then I applied this thinking toward the game updates. Maybe the developers are on a well deserved vacation and they are running on a skeleton staff for awhile. Think about it. They have been working pretty darn hard for the last 6 months at least if not more.
Also I like Yorrix's view on things. She makes a valid point. I would put it like this: "I isn't only what you say...but how you say it..."
EDIT: Typ0s *sigh*
