Making my 4th character. So far i have finnished with:
El/Nec
War/El
Mo/Mes

Next im going to Do ranger. Wondering if I should make it my primary or secondary. This is more for a RPG character, dont really care how strong it is. I kinda would like to be a fem nec for her looks and a spider pet. I was thinking being a mass bone/fiend minion raiser with pet. What should I do? R/N or N/R.

if you dont care about the unlocks then the choice is completely up to you ... ranger expertise primary attribute has skills to unlock, necro soul reaping does not. But if you dont care then ... why not do as you wish? your female character sounds decent

Sounds like N/R would fit your "want" that you mentioned.

you can still unlock primary attribute skills for your secondary profession.

but i'd go R/N because it's a fun class to play. it's up to you, you can unlock the same skills with n/r as r/n

Somewhere unexpected

I think it is energy vs. armor. Ranger armor is a bit more decent? Necro has more energy reserve? Depends on how you play it really. Looks like you want to have a lot of pets, dead or alive I would go with N/R, the second R is for the spider.

I would personally play, Ranger / Necro, i played that build way back in the Beta and thought it was great, good sturdy build.

Does ranger have abilities to heal minions/pets? My el/nec has pretty much all the nec spells, just doesnt use anything other then well of power though. So im kinda noob to both nec and ranger.

as Ranger for your secondary you don't have access to the expertise attribute...which makes casting cost significantly less energy. I cast 15 point energy skills for like 6 or 7 energy.

That's only for skills, not spells. As such, it'd barely affect the Necromancer line of abilities.

Personally, I'd go R/N. Expertise is, hands down, the best primary attribute in the game. Toss in the Ranger's fantastic elemental armour and you've got yourself a character to be feared, perhaps weakening a foe with Curses then laying into them with Marksmanship power bow attacks. But it sounds you want to go Minions, and Ranger primary offers no good there. You miss out on the critical Death Magic rune and headgear, and will suffer Energy management problems as Expertise doesn't affect spells, and you lack Soul Reaping to get the gain from your Minions dropping like flies. As for going pets on top of that... I recommend against it. You'd struggle to get the Beast Mastery points together, and suffer skill bar problems as well as difficulty paying the Energy cost on Beast Mastery skills without Expertise.

Just get this character up to level 20, and then delete your E/N. That way, you've covered the 6 professions with your 3 PvE characters, and you can have an extra slot for a PvP character.

lol..I have almost an indentical line up...just swap the Mo/mes to a Mes/Nec.

I went Ranger/Monk (smiting) for the last one.
Taking my time because I don't see any expansions available yet!

I played an N/R. I ended up not using any Ranger skills at all. While Rangers are a good class, I think they make pretty bad secondaries, unless you've got a very specific build in mind.

If you like minions go N/R... can't go wrong here.

If you prefer to shoot things with your bow, go R/N.

My 3rd toon was an N/R. I have since made my 4th an R/N & will deleting the N/R once the R/N is developed enough & I've spread all my gear for sale across the other toons (currently loaded onto the N/R).

After creating the N/R, & then experiencing some R/X action in pvp with all the excellent skills & gear the R has to offer I was hooked. No account should be without a R primary imho. They simply have some awesome options available gear & skills wise, & one ranger can be completely different to another even when just using ranger skills.

*shrugs*

Anyways back to the point. Ranger won't be able to mass raise minions as well as the necros, and they won't have them last quite as long either.

That's what I believe the poster is trying to do.

If you just want one or two tiny minions, I'm sure the ranger primary will suffice. If you want an army of 30 lvl 18s horrors behind you, make an N/R. Soul Reaping is excellent for this purpose.
