Wish to rename an existing character (ie, not delete and re-create a new character with same name, but to simply change the name of charcter). Searched manual, here on gwguru forum and even on the GW site with no success, couldn't find any obvious way in-game either (would have thought there'd be a rename button beside the create / delete at the logged-in screen).
TIA
How do I rename a character?

It would also be a nice money sink for end-game players who've done it all.

actually, it started as a question and later turned into a suggestion since the response was negative.
I dont' think I'd need it, but I would support it since names are important for me and sometimes I want to make a char (which takes 5 minutes) but don't yet have a fitting name (which takes like 2 days or more for me)

Does GW really need a rename function? HELL NO!
The Ebayers would love to see this feature implemented. It would be a great selling point. I can see it now, "Buy this account from me and you can rename the character to anything you want!"
No Thanks.
If you don't like the name you gave your character...delete it and start over.

This topic is pretty much closed (see my reply), also answered on the official GW web site (refer to the Fansite Friday #51, 15 July 2005), where the "bonus question" was about character renaming:
So the "I can rename my character?" question has been answered, with a No (due to being able to use for unwanted purposes outside the original scope). Such is the way human nature is.

GW-NL: Sometimes you create a character and after a while playing you're not happy with the name you chose, but it would be a waste to delete the character and start again. Also, sometimes a guild leader quits leading a guild and hands over the guild to someone else, who might want to change the guild name to something of his own choice. Will ArenaNet sometime in the future add a possibility to change a character name or for a guild leader to change the name of the guild? (This could maybe even be done for a fee in certain towns as another gold-sink.) Gaile: You know, at first I looked at this and I thought, "What a great idea!" But then, a few concerns arose in my mind, and talking to Designer James Phinney, the concerns solidified into a regretful but certain belief that we simply cannot offer this feature. Why? Because it would probably have a cost for the community as a whole, and there is nothing about which we are more protective than the Guild Wars community. Renaming a character would be super for an innocent individual - a good player - who simply decided to make a harmless change. But what if abusive players or scammers had renaming opportunities? What if such players could bury the past with a new name? They could change names and start right in again with abusing other players because, with a brand new name, there would be less likelihood that they would be avoided, less chance that they would have been pointed out through community discussion. |

One of my guildies had to change his name because he won the HoH as "My Balls Your Chin" and it advertised his name to the entire community :O.
Some people took offense to this because they are whiney babies.
I told him he should have complained saying that his name wasn't meant to be dirty and that THEY are the ones with the dirty minds.
Well the simple solution which would actually help in a lot of areas would be to have 1 account name, much like most games do. In this game your Email acts as your account sign in name.
If they put this in you would have to choose one and you wouldn't be able to change it.
You would still sign in with your email and everything but this would be a much easier way to identify people.
Players could easily see this lets say global name which would allow you to easily identify them despite their name or char they are on.
It could also help people who want to whisper something, as it is, you usually have to add the person to your friend list to find out what name they are on, not terribly bad but a mild annoyance.
You know what I'm gonna go make a suggestion.
wapow!
