This is a adaption of some ideas I already read here, but this is a slightly different take on it so here we go:

Idea: Charm Animal Signet

Why: As we all know if your a Ranger, you are forced to carry about the Charm Animal Skill constantly in order to take your animal into battle. Thus costing us one skill slot, which is a lot, lets face it.

Solution: Replace "Charm Animal" skill with a signet. Simular to Capture Signet, you could buy addition Charm Animal signets at the cost of one skill point! Also you can only buy additional ones when you have gotten rid of your current pet.

Upon using a Charm Animal Signet to tame a pet, the signet with automatically turn into a "Comfort Animal" signet... which would work in the same way as the current skill of the same name.

Once you let your pet go, the Comfort Animal Signet will also be removed ontill you buy a new "Charm Animal" signet and tame a pet.

Pros:

- Would free up one skill point for rangers.
- Pets would become more used since you wouldn't need to take 2 skills to make them usable in battle anymore. No more underdog.

Cons:

- Increase "cost" and time to tame a pet... well I don't see this as being an issue since pets are fairly easy to tame and replace anyhow.
- Non-Rangers will not like the idea of ALL rangers having pets in battle. Maybe, but pets unless you put tons into BeastMastery are weak anyhow... besides some rangers don't use pets in PvP at all.

Comments and feedback would be welcome. RTS

Another solution could be expand the requirements of charm animal to other skills as well. As long as you have one of those skills equipped your animal will be in the misson.

personnally i find that less confusing then rotating signets.

It wouldn't work the same was a capture signet... if someone beats you to it, the spell cancels and nothing happens.

Signet method makes more sense then simply have skill X to use the pet... your method sounds pretty much the same as it is already!

don't highjack my thread please... post your idea elsewhere

Firebat i was suggesting that more skills have that added to it. That way say you could take charm animal, comfort animal, symbiotic bond or a couple other skills. Having any one of those on you would let the pet come along. basically widen it from one skill bringing it along to more then one.

You idea strikes me as doing similar just replacing the capturing skill with another skill that brings the animal along with you. but it still leaves you with one spell that you have to have inorder to bring the pet. I'm just saying expand it more and have several spells that could bring it along. That way you allow players a little more varity in strategy.

I mean if comfort animal is now required to bring a pet why would anyone ever use revive animal? ever ranger would have thier own res for thier pet and the range on revive animal is so low for the handful of times you could get more then one pet in range at once would it be worth bringing?

very nice idea - i like it.

ive gotten over my dislike of the have to have tow skills equpiied.. but i wont say no to this. only thing is that signets dont cost energy - which could make comfort animal kinda cheap (pets are powerful)

Why not just have rangers carry something in their belt pouch (catnip?) in order to keep pets along, an item you can purchase (or get in a quest) that has the only real negative of taking up a single storage slot? Still equip Comfort Animal for the healing/rez...

I LOVE this idea! I hope the AN people are looking it over.

What about leveling your pet? If you purchased another signet, would it bring back your pet or would you have to find a new one?

If it doesn't bring back the original pet, potential pets would need to have their levels scaled up to match the monsters in the surrounding area....no more level 5 animals outside the Forge.

As other posters have mentioned, the current way requires you to devote at least one (if not two) slots on your skill bar just to bring your pet into battle, to say nothing of actual attacks or skills related to your pet that you want to use. Two slots is 1/4 of your skill bar, and that's a lot to have invested in what is (currently) a very weak pet companion. I like the OP's suggestion and hope that ANet will take it under consideration.

They are powerful enough. This idea has been sugested many times before. Please use the ideas index. The current rolling topic is here.
And for thoese of you too lazy to look it up here is the reason pets are powerful enough as is.

Here's an idea : Why not just make charm animal and comfort animal the same skill????

I don't see why they split them as it is.

Heck, why not just make it so that if you bring a "pet" skill, you bring your pet. i.e. if I brought a pet attack, my pet comes along. I understand they have you bring charm animal so that your pet is, in effect, a skill. However, the pet needs skills supporting it or it is worthless, and you yourself need skills as well (or you are worthless)

No other idea has talked about a Charm Pet Signet... so its not the same idea... nor should there be no reason for discussion. You don't have to reply to it if you don't want to.

BTW interesting how in that picture you are all Warriors, also love how you have covered up the skill bar... what there to hid?

hmmm i personaly don't see anything wrong with the curent system, but i wouldn't say no to an upgrade. My only concern is, if they went with this.. would it screw up people who currently have pets... would i have to re-charm a pet instead of keeping my current one. I have a strider... i can't get another one anywhere.

rts I was meaning if comfort was required to bring a pet along then the other skill revive animal would be useless.

you don't have to take up those skill slots, but you also don't get the pet. But what you are asking is to have the pet AND the skill slot. The point of the pet is for it to be one of those things that hang over your shoulders, can be useful, can also not be. Making charm animal/confort animal into one doesn't seem like a bad idea though.

Bad idea. If that's the way charming would go there would be no downside on having a pet, and I think there should be. Now, it's still a choice to have a pet by your side, then, it's a "Why not?". Not every ranger likes to have a pet with them, and that should be kept that way.
