What's wrong with the minotaurs?

OK, i thought i would go check out a corner of the desert that i hadnt been to before...well, not properly anyway.

Between Amnoon Oasis, Heroes Audience and Augury Rock, there are a bunch of minotaurs... near the collector named Kyle the rich.

I went to kill a few of these on my travels but the majority wouldn't even fight me. They just continue to fight each other, even when i attack them.

What's wrong with them? Anyone else have the same "trouble" here?

I wouldn't have minded usually but i was trying to gain XP from my scroll of heroes insight!! LOL, quite funny when you think about it.

That happens occasionally with all kinds of different monsters. Every once in a while, you'll encounter them fighting amongst themselves. Trying to draw aggro when the monster is already engaged with a different enemy can be difficult.

It's handy though if you want to avoid combat. In the very first mission, you can just walk past the largest group of enemies in it -- they're too busy fighting each other to pay you any attention. I can see how it would be pain if you're trying to level up, though...

Sorry, let me clarify. Minotaurs were fighting other minotaurs.

Same enemies, same level, same area.

Yes, it's great when they attack those annoying salving cactus but fellow bulls...weird.

Having gone and solo-run everywhere I could across the desert I'll say that I saw A LOT of that. Those bulls seem to be violent creatures. Maybe they were fighting trying to impress the female bulls over by the water hole? All I know is you wonder to yourself when a N/W ends up slaughtering 10 minotaurs running solo in the desert without getting scratched.

I was running by and I was just like...wait a minute...may as well try and get in the fray as well, I need to die and get back to a town here quick so...

*goes to fight*

Wait a minute...none of them attacked me, and they all died.

Ah, so it's definitely, possibly, maybe, certainly either a glitch or a scripted event.

Oh well, at least i know what to expect, whether it's meant to be like that or not.
At least Anet can fix it if they didn't mean it to be like that. I do think it's odd how they can attack me, turn around and attack another bull then change their minds again....

I don't know who is more confused...me or the bulls.

Testosterone level got too high. So they decided they needed to prove their macho male-ness. But being mintaurs this tends to happen a lot so they all got into it.

Or how about when they'll charge PAST you?

That's hilarious. My team of henchies will go chasing after them and I'm just there like "WTF just happened..."

It seems to me that I've seen this amongst other creatures as well. I'll have to retrieve my memory bank tapes and figure out where. But it is odd and, at the same time, oddly satisfying to take them out while they're bickering with one another.

I have seen large groups of Stone Elementals rail on a lone Stone Elemental.

This is probably just a random thing like the undead Mesmer said, but there is some of these events that aren't. Such as the grawl (charr?) heretics being beaten upon by other Grawl (Charr?).

I was doing the Griffon run but decided to go a different way... I found a big area with lots of Minotaurs. I ran into about 10 of them (there pretty easy to kill in big bunches) I fought for about 10 seconds taking them all down to about half there life or so but then they all decided to run off! They ran a short distance away (still inside my circle) and just stood there I went up to them and attacked them and they just let me attack them and did nothing about it! Wierd :P

It could be like the Doom games, one monster accidentally hits or pisses off another than they all go ape shit. Maybe someone stole their kill and they got all angry like in some drunken bar fight, they didn't have any real reason to fight, but everyone else was doing it right?

In that area of the desert they always do it. If you look at the layout, it's like two rival herds are bucking it out- think goats butting heads. One or two from each group run to the middle and fight for a few seconds before retreating. I've watched it a while before and on many trips to the area, and I believe it's a scripted event. Little easter egg or undeveloped story point.

I've seen 2 lightning drakes in Gates of Kryta sitting face to face attacking each other.

Ever since Doom I've always enjoyed monster in-fighting. By the way I've come across a large group of Grawl fighting each other so I sat back and watched the melee.

I get a strange satisfaction out of watching 2 groups beat eachother. I did that Riverside Province mission solo and I would always agro either the White Mantle or the Undead and lead them close enuff that they will stop chasing me and start killing eachother. My best record was leading ~10 undead to a tower and watching them fight 9 White Mantle. The White Mantle won, but not without losing 5 units. I get a really strong satisfaction watching them bash eachother!
