Everytime I finish a mission or get really far in a mission and fail I get bored or "exhausted" of trying to do them.In many other games there are counters for this such as mining, fishing, and crafting.
Yea i don't know how many times, i had my whole night ahead of me to play GW and i get "stuck" or "frustrated" with a particular mission to such an extend that i had no other choice to log off and play something else. Simply because there isn't anything else to do to "cool-down" or "rejuvinate" you.

The Collectables

Everyone has played Final Fantasy. And everyone remembers the monter cards. Now, what if there were cards of monsters in the game?
I'd think this is the ideal route to go.

Mining/Farming/Crafting/Fishing is always tied to improving your character , either in terms of Resources or Stats. This will essentially come do to a grind scenario if there's too much to gain by doing those tasks. In other words, if they DO give you a signicant gain you feel "obligated" to do it eventually, if they DON'T you will see it as pure grind and a waste of time [nullifying the point of it].

Now back to the colletables idea. To add to that though, think KOTOR though. In the game you had this mini-game with cards, you still had to "get" the cards [collect them or buy them] and then you can go play the card-game and win more cards and cash. This card-game by itself was pretty fun, regardless of the rewards. It didn't really influence your character as a whole, even though you could make a few bucks. [Besides a game like Magic The Gathering would fit nicely inside GW come to think of it :P]

--> Side attractions i've seen in other places:
1. Casinos
2. Random Generated Quests
3. Raids [PvE]
4. Social Gatherings/Events
...etc etc

silvertemplar, by this you mean everyone feels they have to do the crafting? well, i know people that just ignore it completely in every game.
by making sure tha the items are not as good as drops, it makes sure that folks dont *have* to craft. frell, if its just a 'pay to download' thing, you can buy it just to be able to BUY the crafted stuff, then get the benefit of crafting without getting yer hands dirty

which then gives people a reason to craft. and by making sure that armour is not craftable, it leves the gold sinks in the game *grin*
keeping the items that are craftable in the simple type, say, short/long sword axe hammer ect, nothing fancy. a BASIC item, then people dont *have* to get them unless they want to.

Yep, fisherman's haven would be a great spot for people to come and fish. Also, the beach at Lion's Arch (by the docks).

I also would like to see /sleep or something. I'm a little bummed out because my female elementalist doesn't actually 'sit' when I do the sit emote, but she like kneels on both knees. I want her to be able to sit the same way rangers/monks do. ;_;

I hope this never happens. It'll just keep more MMORPG elements that I don't like in the game, and I don't really want that community here. This is a hack and slash action oriented RPG, and while it wouldn't directly hurt me to have anyone fishing, it would alter the composition of the community and bring GW closer to other MMOs, which I oppose. It's like wanting to have a karaoke area in Gauntlet, or to have an origami activity in Tekken - pointless and counter to the game's design. While neither the origami or karaoke would hurt the game itself, it would waste programmer time and encourage people to stay when it isn't the right style of game for them. If you want an MMORPG, go play an MMORPG.

I'm not saying that to be rude, or mean, but the fact is that GW isn't an MMORPG, it doesn't need those activities, and while I appreciate that you like the graphics etc..., I'd like to play GW, not some MMORPG clone, and the continured presence of the MMORPGers in the GW community puts pressures to morph GW into every other game. So in the nicest possible way, please go play a game that actually encourages role-playing, and is an MMORPG, and stop trying to corrupt GW into a game of your own liking.

I can think of 500 relaxing things to do and non of them requires you to be logged into Guild Wars.

That is lamentable - but it doesn't make me want GW to turn into the MMORPG of choice for those without creditcards - I would rather ANet (or someone else) produce a separate game that IS an MMORPG, complete with the bazillion levels, endless item searching and activities ranging from fishing to basketweakng to flower arrangmment, than have GW coopted in that manner.

Cute

I like the playfulness of emotes, and of dancing and it can be a bit of fun. And there is a very real demand for a non-feed MMORPG out there, and GW seems like one at first glance, but I really don't think that's ANet's goal, and I think that what should happen is that somebody clues into the fact that people will pay for a GW-payment model game that IS an immersive MMORPG.

Proposal: Prize Hog Soccer

This mini-game will be played in a field somewhere in Kryta. On one end of the field you have Farmer Dirk and his pig-pen. On the other you have Old Mack and his Devourer Joe. On the playing field are a number of prize hogs. The object is for your team to chase as many hogs to your respected ally in a given amount of time.

You can keep opponents from scoring by hitting them with a hammer or casting a spell on them. If you actually kill someone though you'd be red-carded out of the game. The key to winning is the use of non-lethal spells to slow down your opponent and speed up your teammates. Taking dives, while unethical, is an effective mean to weaken the opposing team. Players should wear as many superior runes as they can. Monks should drain away their health through Infuse Health, so that they would simply fall over when checked by an opposing warrior.

The winners of a game each receives a pine of Dwarven Ale.

You should be able to eat so you can get your character fat or skinny, just like GTA San Andres.
Im not really in favor of monster cards because your copying someone else ideas, the creators are blizzard I believe, not sony.
I think you should be able to sleep, like at hotel in Henge of Denvari or someplace, BUT while you sleep you dream and maybe in dream world you can choose what your dreaming about like maybe fishing, and then you teleport to fishing location and fish, or maybe dreaming about defending a huge city from big charr invasion. Sleeping ties in with this thred "More relaxing things to do" 1. Your sleeping which is relaxing, and 2. You can dream of something relaxing to do.

Your characters should get fat though, it creates more difference in characters.

Here's another time sink, and i'm sure its probably been mentioned: Take a boat ride from LA to your guild hall! I would love to be able to see my hall from a distance, coming across the ocean. Also, it would give you a chance to relax. Also, I am SURE this has been mentioned, but add NPCs to guild halls for fishing, boating, chilling etc. Also, the ability to customize your island would be neat, i.e. making residences for the officers outside of the playing field. Might be a fun gold-sink. Or...female companions (and males for the women players...) or a pet monkey on your island. Something to put money in besides armors and weapons. People love to waste money. That's why they invtened HSN and Ebay. Never, ever has a person actually bought something they NEEDED on ebay. But its fun, right?
