It's not useless. Sure, you can say it's accumulated in great quantities by simply selling a bunch of ectoplasms or a nice Vampiric Bowstring (5/1) or something else that's rare, but I still need my 75k for the cool-looking armor sets.
Maybe gold is less valuable because you need such enormous amounts of gold to buy that rare item... It doesn't make it useless.
