So I have played a warrior/monk, a ranger/monk and an actual monk, so as you can tell, I like monks.. But, this is where the problem comes in... I don't know a suitable second profession for a smite monk... as the name implies, I will be using a lot of smite skills, and a lot of those require you to get upclose in melee, so I was thinking monk/warrior and get me a shield.. but how would this work? or what about a monk/earth ele? Any suggestions are welcome.

As for the type of character, I was pretty much only wanting to max smite prayers and maybe healing (this seems to be spreading it thin, since you almost ~need~ divine favor to be a good healer)

There is a pretty good monk/mesmer smiting build somewhere in the forums. I have tried it and it works great. But, if you're going to smite, I wouldn't bother thinking about healing.

The monk/mesmer build basically has your smiting and divine favor maxed with the remaining point in inspiration.

balthazaar's spirit, divine boon, channeling, zealot's fire, blessed aura, and blessed signet are the basic skills. Once the enchantments are up, you basically cast zealot's fire and channeling. Then you run into the middle of a mob and spam divine boon. The zealot's deals the damage, the channeling steals energy, and the divine boon heals you.

But there is a much better explanation in another topic on the forum.

Well, that's just one suggestion.

azmodan pretty much covered it for you. a monk primary will go good with most classes.

Monk/mesmer is excellent. Theres also the monk/ele, mostly for the mist form.

thanks for the replys guys, and this isn't for a PvP, its something I think would be fun in PvE, but I will check out this monk/mesmer build, and maybe think about it myself a bit more

well its my opinion that if your only going for smiting build, use a different primary class to take advantage of their primary attribute. If your not going to use divine favor, use an ele or mesmer to take advantage of energy storage and fast casting. You can even use a necro for the soul reaping to redeem your energy.

why not? zealots fire is one of the best smiting spells on the game. i've found out that my 2nd class for my smiter is absolutly useless. i'm using all monks skills they have such synergy.

I love my monk/necro-I have 3 heals and the rest of my slots are smiting or necro stuff. I can do 100 points damage and slow foe to 50% in opening round of a fight. Rocks.
