Guild Wars...fun? What happened???
HubbaHubbaBear
It's nice that they keep doing updates and such, but I have to tell you I have never been so bored and let down with a game then I have been with GW. I was so excited when playing the Beta and really looked forward to the official release, but I reached level 20 in a week and have since then lost complete interest with the game thus far. When will the game creators raise the level cap higher so level 20s can start having some fun again? Actually, when will they make the game FUN period? It's an amazing game if you are talking graphics and art design, but beyond that it has really fallen flat for me. It's like a soft drink that's lost it's fizz...I mean coke only tastes great with the bubbles. Guild Wars is like a flat coke, and that's no fun.
Tactical-Dillusions
Is this a thinking aloud post or a discussion point?
ArenaNet have plans for PvE...don't know what (apart from the two zones) so for now, just ride it out with the rest of us.

How is raising the level cap going to offer you more fun? Because when you reach the new cap, you're most likely going to ask for a higher cap than the one you previously asked for. As I understand it, this game was intended as a PvE/PvP complete game. One compliments the other. Play some PvP for awhile, join a guild, make a new character, unlock some more skills, or leave the game and wait for the new areas and the expansion that are coming out soon.
Personally, I'm on my 4th character and I'm still learning new things everyday about this game, team builds, and what characters/skills are capable of. Still has fizz to me.

No game in the world holds anyone's interest forever. Sounds like it is time for you to get a new game.
Did you already know about the level cap before you started playing? Just wondering.

AWWWWW
he misses the magic *ding* that shows he is having fun again.
sorry (some honestly) but i have gotten so tired of FIREBALL NUMBER 1 TO 10 to kill enemies with hit points 30 to 30,000 and by your favorite deity i can 2-3 hit them all when they show up in the game at the magic DING for them to appear
i am still having fun as it seems many others are as well.
you are not paying by the month so put it aside for a bit and come back when it is fun again

I believe they are concentrating on eliminating problems as expressed by the community on both the PvE and PvP side atm.
The lvl 20 cap is certainly not one of them.
I will give them time to balance the game and improve the mechanics. After that, if they cease to expand and I lose the enjoyment factor, then I will move on.

Eventually they will have to (raise the cap / expand the numbers). It is just a natural part of all online games of this type and it cannot be avoided no matter how much a developer says they want to. But I do not expect anything such as that until atleast 2006.

This is a competitive game and I shouldn't have to just level up in repetitive, boring PvM just to have fun. The grind is bad enough already and I'd leave in a heartbeat if the level cap is raised even slightly.
Guild Wars isnt evolutionary, it's revolutionary.

Quote:
Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless. |

You know back in beta not much changed not the map only the drops and such.Everyone knew where everything was so they just went for it and got to the Southern Shiverpeaks in no time. The wise thing to do would of changeing the map for retail and butting everyone on a level playing for those that didn't beta test.I beta tested it but never got outside of post Ascalon as I played to much in the HOH and Arenas in PVP not much in PVE.It would of been best of had the map and locatins changed entirey so the beta testers wouldn't know where eveything was. This goes to those that fineshed early. It is not our fault for that putting everyone on level playing field.

I love it that the lvl is 20 it should be 20 forever.
I have a wow account. I havent payed for it in 3 months cos I been waiting/playing this game. In fact the only thing from stopping me going back to wow is that my mates have swapped servers and are now lvl 40 ish. I had a lvl 56 on my orig server. And I C B F grinding my ass off to get all the way back up there. (+ i dont have the time)
I left wow cos of the Lvl grind - a high lvl never partys a low (cos theres no point) lvl kinda thing. And i hope Guild wars doesnt do the same thing (raise the lvl cap).
I agree that the game has lost some spark since I've been playing it and here are my proposals to fix this .....
1. Get an auction system ...... OMG this ticks me off ( the one thing WOW did do right)
2. Moderate chat busy zones.... not all zones but ....... some....... please. Of course Anet cant be held responsible for childish / stupid behavior but some of the chat that is going on atm is pritty bad.
3. New content. both PvP and PvE.
4. A system that can quickly form parties. (Sign up... want to do this ..... can play for this amout of time ..... using these skills)
but that might just be me.
BTW If your going to moan about somthing it is best to atleast offer your solution.

Aside from my poor luck on finding anything i dont think there is anything wrong with this game, sure it has lost a little "fizz" but the sad fact about life is most games do
as for some things they could do to improve.. i guess ill take a shot at it
1) ive heard a lot of things about making the name of the game come to life and i think having a "war" would be a great idea, they could organize it once a week or something, it would just be something else to look forward to
2) sometimes this game makes me feel fat, simply because i cant climb a simple hill... now now im not saying make me superman, but it would be nice if it wasnt so limited all the time
3) ok this one isnt too serious, but i notice it all the time and that is... the horrible camera angle after rez... yes i know it sounds weird, but everytime i get rezed i get this really close camera angle where im so close i can actualy smell my character.. i just died do you really have to rub it in? (i normaly have a far camera angle)
4) More Gwen... what am i the only one who misses her?
Well thats all i can really think of
for your own health you should ignore points 3 and 4... i just didnt want to post with only two points...

Your website has fansite friday www.guildwars.com.
But what about IN GAME.... thats what keeps me interested in MMORPGS.
Thanks Gaara you have lit a spark under my bum now lets hope Anet feels it.
er ..... figure of speech.

I'm pretty bored.
I've never played a multiplayer game that was so linear, limited, and boring. Even Diablo 2 kept me entertained because of the item variety. Monsters are re-used, areas pretty much look the same and only have one path, very few items, weak customization, poor story-line, and weak gameplay.
Guild Wars, is unlike most RPGs. I'll give you that. There's a low level cap, crazy merchant/trader system, and the requirement of a party.... And that you can only really play it the way the developers want you to play. No farming. No soloing. You can't go this way, you have to go that way. Generally, in most RPG games you could explore. I don't find this true in Guild Wars. There's an army of things just waiting for you outside. The PVP is pretty weak too. Games more focused on PVE has better PVP Guild Wars.
Then again, that's my $49.99 plus tax.
An amount that Anet won't be seeing from me again.

But then I remembered how it look in WoW.
They have speedhacks.
They have teleporthacks.
They have underground_running_hack.
They have flyhack.
They even have hacks that allow you to swim under the sea...
If that would be the price, I'm glad A.net chose more restrictive movement model.

People have no idea how good they have it here in gw as far as pvp. It's all about teamwork and even numbers not ganks and uber gear.

You kidding ? It's my goal to uncover as much of the map as is possible. One of the things I like is that you can just grab some henchies and go where you like. You can farm if you wish, nothing stopping you doing that, maybe they stopped the easy loot gravy train but so what ? And you solo if you want too as well. Admittedly you need the right build in certain areas so just experiment. Only one path ? I recently took a char from LA to sanctum without doing a single mission, stopping off at ToA from druids overlook (MUCH easier way to go), looking at the impressive (although easy to kill) bone dragons on the way, going via Maguuma Stade (chain lightning - why else ? ) on the way. So saying there is just one way through the game is plain wrong. In all the areas you only really need to do the 'zoning' mission (Thunderhead, Sanctum, ect) to get to the next area. Heck, if you are feeling rich or adventurous then you can go from Beacons straight to Droknars if you really, really want.....

I played four months worth of beta weekends... and I would have to say that A LOT changed in PvE.
new locations opened up.. some towns were changed completely around. Every month was something new.
Even cutscene movies were changed.

I like the level cap just the way it is and I like that there's not a lot of grind compared to other MMO's. And I still play the game a lot....but only the PVP side now.
The PVE in this game gets old really fast. The problem with the PVE in this game is that it's always the same. It's too static and too restricted and too linear. It feels like being ushered through a tunnel rather than a pleasant walk enjoying the scenery. I think if they were going to use instancing, they should have used the randomization of monster placement and map layout the way Diablo did it... even slight differences would keep playing the same missions over and over a lot less repetitive.
More randomization would be great. More content. Different rulesets for both PVE and PVP would be fun to play with.
