With release upcoming we're doing some spring cleaning around here. One thing that needs sprucing up is, of course, our outdated profession pages. We've been kicking around a few ways of doing it and I'd like to get some feedback on what you think is most important to get from each profession's page. Also, if you're interested in contributing to a Profession's page, please contact me and we'll see what we can do.
Some of the ideas we've had:
-Retouching them so that they're pretty close to what they are now, just updated with the latest information.
-Adding some FAQ items and some example builds to each profession's page.
-Redoing the profession pages so they're much more barebones and include just the basic facts about that profession and moving our current profession pages to be standalone "guides" to each profession.
What do you want out of our Profession Pages?

My suggestions are more specifcially geared towards skills, but I assume that will be in the profession pages. My suggestions are two fold.
1) Make it so that you can see all the information on a skill without clicking on a link. The way you guys have it setup now is near useless, as to "browse" for a skill that does what you're looking for you have to click on each individual skill and I know in my case, atleast, I'd rather just shoot on over to gwonline.net, and we don't want that now, do we.
2) Make it so what when you type in a skill name in the forums it automatically parses posts, finds skills, and links to the skill on the profession pages. This will help out immensely, in more ways than one. People will start using the correct name for skills and newbies will be able to see exactly what the post is talking about without taking 10 minutes to look up all the individual skills first. I know this can be done, and there are many places you could ask for advice. If you have any questions, feel free to repost in this thread or PM me.
That's all I got. Hope it helps make Guild Wars Guru an even better place.

I will help out if it's needed Always happy to help my GW community.
Anyway, I'd like to see a little more information about the profession itself, not the builds it can hve. Skills, what they do, areas to get more, tips/tricks, armour/weapons, locations of helpers, etc.

Some of the ideas we've had:
[1]-Retouching them so that they're pretty close to what they are now, just updated with the latest information.
[2]-Adding some FAQ items and some example builds to each profession's page.
[3]-Redoing the profession pages so they're much more barebones and include just the basic facts about that profession and moving our current profession pages to be standalone "guides" to each profession. Regarding number 1, cosmetically the boxes are really too much. The current professions page as the menu to reach deeper information would be quite nice, although you might wanna consider 6 short columns so the professions look more "equal" and the columnar text is links to the info about them, Attributes, Skills, Builds(2), FAQs(2), and Summary. The summary page has links to articles and guides(3) by different authors, 2 colums, one side the articles for that profession as primary, the other about it as secondary, articles followed by "feedback" linking to posts in the forums regarding the articles and the builds. You can have the authors of the articles be involved in making sure there is feedback and posts regarding actual in-game use (just a thought to make it easier on you guys) as sort of a criteria for submitting an article something you still have to review. Within these colums there should maybe be subheads for PVE and PVP specific builds.
As a side note, the admins, alphas, and betas who contribute to GuildWarsGuru might wanna ask for reviews of a profession from one of the top 10 guilds say once a month and that could be a featured article at this site that can also be PR'd through GuildWars main by updating the link info to have a bullet about that guild reviewing a profession--it would be nice to get all 10 to do it but probably overkill. And as far as I am concerned, although I am sure he's busy, you aren't utilizing Ensign enough. His articles seriously need to be linked to often. They are very helpful in helping people understand this game's mechanics. I care to think that all players but maybe the Alpha and Beta players need his information and insights into the game.
Lastly for clarity, I suggested the 6 half size colums for the professions main menu on the idea that the expanse will have some new professions. With short columns in the menuing of the professions you can just have another set of short columns below these. This will enable showing maybe 12 different professions simultaneously listed with a page by page style scroll to get to the next expansion sets profession list. In fact you might wanna list the professions in reverse order so the most recent expanse professions are listed first. At least with colums you have that flexibility so the site can make a very powerful impression on people who come here to look at the professions, especially new players. Thus you help them also realize by example what this site's standards are and what it expects of them should they join into the forums and such.
Hope this was helpful.

I am not sure this is the rright spot for this but....
How about a list of the skills that do not work with the other skills. I found out the hard way that you can't have Ignite arrows (or fire arrows not sure of the skill) and Read the wind active at the same time. Is this true or was it just me.
Thanks

having forums for every character build like the way you have it broken down under professions. but then add the link to the build discustion next to the profession builds. like when you click on the warrior proffestion and on the bottom it says subclasses have a link to that mix forum.
Also If you can have a spell check on the forums.... or am I just missing it?

I think it would be a good idea to have a guide comparing each type of profession then guides about each type of proffession. Sort of have a chart displaying the Health/Mana/Armor/Weapons options for each, then each part could go more in depth for each charecter. Sort of a heirarchy structure where you could also compare within Professions and accross professions. There are plenty of great guides at the Guru, but when I know what I am looking for, sometimes it is hard to find.
For example:
I want to choose a build that fits my playstyle, so I choose Elementalist. Now I play for a while and need to know where I can get the stuff I need to upgrade my armor, so I have to go to the Armor Compendium and find what I need and where I can get it. Now I have to go to the Salvaging guide and find what that gives me. Now I have to go to the Creatures guide to find who dropps what. Now I have to go to the map and hope that the area they are found in is labled. It'd be cool if all these things were more inter-connected.
