Poll: Monthly Fee or None
Manjaro70124
Sry still need to find a way to post a poll.

Sure, there are people that don't care if they have to pay it or not, but I doubt anyone would ever want one, remembering that anyone - with or without brains - can pay 10$ a month. >.>

Like I would pay a monthly fee for this game. The only reason I would pay is if they turned it into an MMORPG. Currently, GW is a singleplayer game with multiplayer as the only mode of play. Not worth paying a monthly fee.
There are better games out there to pay a monthly fee for. There are even some better RPG games that are free.

The reason I found this game is because there is no monthly fee. This is 100% true. I would never have found or tried this game if there was no monthly fee. I bought WoW and was unable to play because of the monthly fee. My physical location and the manner of paying monthly fees + server issues + manner of game purchase/download + international limitations on credit card use = no online fees possible for Slug. If the expansion required a monthly fee, I would not be buying it. This isn't because I'm a childish baby who would protest the fees, this is because it would not be possible for me to pay the fees, so buying it would be stupid.
If I could pay monthly fees I would likely have spent half the time on GW that I did (if I had even discovered it) because I would also be spending a great deal of time in WoW.

Diablo???
i would definitely not play if there's a monthly fee attached, i'd just switch over to WoW (which i'm hesitent to do)
Ultimate_Gaara
it would really stink if they smacked a montly fee on this no matter if the gameplay changed or not, anything over $0/month is too much for me, i see no need to pay for a game when there are millions i can play for free... like GW..
however if they did, id just go back to Diablo 2

i reckon paying monthly to fight 3d objects with other 3d objects is kind of freakish, so i'd just stop playin and sell my account.

Right.

I wouldn't pay a fee.
Ultimate_Gaara
well i dont think paying for a game is weird, its just if i pay id end up like my friends... id never leave my room because i want to get the most bang for my buck everyday.. when i dont pay i have a lifetime to enjoy it.. or untill the servers go down
SJG
The only reason I bought Guild Wars was because of the lack of a fee. It's not that I can't afford it, I just don't want to pay a monthly fee for any game.

There are plenty of better games with monthly fee, and the only reason I am playing GW or any other online games is that it doesn't have monthly fee.
DFrost
I would never ever play anything with a monthly fee. Not GW, not WoW, not anything. I'd always have the feeling that I'm wasting money when I'm doing something else than playing the game.
DrSLUGFly
for the cost? for WoW 100 bucks (50 pounds) would get me a half a year... I would spend that many times over just for snackage... It's chump change... for me it's a matter of having the method to make the payments

I wouldn't pay for any game online either, not only that, but then anet would really have to listen to the people playing and have to change things in the game to make them happy, or at least i would think so, cause well...their paying for it.
That can be an extreamly hard thing to do for as many people that play this game, personally ...how long has this game been in development 2-3 years? I understand the need to put it out there on the market and get it going to reimburse all their hard work, but honestly where did you get your beta testers..why was the game released in the condition it was after such a long time, i have yet to see a game with so many updates this early from release then again, this is the first type of game of its kind i have played.
There's a lot of inconstanticy that i see from skills (esp leet) not working properly, to areas having the same or close to the same monster types, collector's items in high areas that noone will bother to collect cause their crap, high end areas with low to mid items, and even then some good items like the crimson shield in Lion's Arch, asking for 4 leather belts, the only place to get leather belts is from doing Galrath's quest( which btw he doesn't even have the the skill by the same name lol), and then your extreamly lucky to get 1 belt.( i have done galraths over 2 dozen times and have yet to see 1 leather belt.)
You have dwarf's( and stupidly darven ale, umm promoting drinking or altered states of mind in a game with a eula that wont allow someone to have a name with the word Seky in it?and yet i can see panties and bra's!!! lol) yet no elves, orcs, halflings etc that im so used to in the books i read, you can only play a human.
Don't get me wrong i like the game, i play even with the nerfing, i've knoticed a considerable differance in drops from my older characters, where they didnt get anything good , yet now my newest character a W/Me seems to be picking up gold items left and right, granted not max damage, most not even sellable, but def improvement in my drops and also i seem to be getting a lot more gold on missions with or without henchies, this does make me happy as where elier i was getting about 100-150gp if i was lucky, i now get 300-500gp depending on mission and length im out and about killing stuff.
Pvp rewards...1000-2000 faction to unlock something, that's a lot of time playing pvp, esp if you don't win all that much. Why wasn't something like that implemented for Pve? Do i really need 50k+xp for beating my doppleganger? naw i'd much rather recieve a cool customized weapon something that would be special, this is part of the inconstancy i see with this game, umm the gods favor? well mr. and mrs. gods why not gimme something i can use? seeing as you favor me so much and i went thru all this trouble of restoring some legendary ghosts to the rightful positions, even Perseus was given a cool helmet sword and shield, and a dam flying horse!! lol
Also, do ya think theres enough devourers in this game? g'dam their like roaches surviving the nuke droped on the planet, there everywhere!
and how the hell do i trust someone asking for 100k+ for an item, ie i see people bidding 200k, 400k, i play everydayand have 4 characters i have yet to go over 160k and that's putting almost 1000 hours into the game, the person to person prices are insane, and spoils it for everyone who doesn't have as much , then again it's an imatation of like, the rich get everything they want and the poor struggle to get something not even close to what they want but having to settle for something less.
Also WOULD YOU PEOPLE JUST NAME A G'DAM PRICE, i mean what is so scary about asking for a set price on something, instead of trying to get the absoulty the most, wasting hours waiting for someone to offer another 10-20k on top of the already high end price your currently posting, which also to me if yer not posting a name of the person with the c/o, your full of it, should be "asking xxx$$" rather then trying to play it off like your really getting an offer of 50k for that 29+hp sword upgrade. Im so sick of the phrase OFFER? esp cause they say no noob offers? just because i offer something nowhere near what you want that makes me a noob?..ok take your 15% o/50% sword and shove it.( yet don't even want to give me at least a price range, thinking be cause i offered only 30k , that i don't really have 500k+??? or that i wasn't serious?? call me when you can't sell that item, and give me a discount now for insulting me. )
ok so let me stop ranting, just don't take it the wrong way, i like this game, it has good beginning's, i see a lot of nerfing( tho i understand with ppl taking advantage of exploits and all the botting that was going on) tho their are some improvements that i am happily enjoying, i look forward to this summers new areas and next years expansion which i will most likely buy, but i will not and never shall pay to play, there's too many games out there that are 1 time pay, and play the rest of your life even if their servers arn't up anymore.
Be consistent, even if your never on time.

no way i'll pay to play any game. I pay £30-£40 for the disc, I'm not paying extra. Besides, if i pay monthly, i then feel i HAVE to play the game, or the character goes bye bye. Yeah, that's not gonna turn the game into a chore.
Besides, even right now being free, the game has barely held my interest for more than a month so I dont think it would really survive monthly fees. I think anyone who's gonna pay to play and isn't rich with tons of time on their hands would choose UO, WoW or EQ2 over it to be honest. *shrugs* just my opinion

I think GW is better than all the subscription based MMORPG's.
That said, I still wouldn't pay monthly fee's for it. I really like the subscription-less service because of my more casual play time.

HELL NO.
HELL NO.

I'd be willing to bet we'll see optional monthly fees for extra storage space at the very least sometime in the future.
That's mainly why GW is free -- the fact that they don't need to store much about your character.
Even so, I think it's hilarious how GW has managed to make otehr MMO's look like pure greed. Honestly, even with all the character storage involved with a game like EQ2 or WoW, it's pretty clear the profit margin on these games month-to-month is sinful.
As both an EQ2 and WoW vet, I can say since GW arrived, I've been disgusted at how little has improved in both games considering the ungodly amounts of cash being poured into the projects. WoW comes out with their Battlegrounds PvP system (which isn't even cross-server, making for ridiculous que times to get in a match), that features a whopping TWO arenas to do battle in. Excuse me, Bliz, but you are raking in MILLIONS of dollars every month - in profits!! - and this is what we get?
Well, guess what. Guild Wars may not be up to par with your game, but at the price of free it makes your enterprise look like a corporate game of hit-and-run ala Sony Online Entertainment.
Not only is GW free of monthly fees, but it's worth the box price and a bit more. I can't help but think that if we did pay a monthly fee for GW, we might actually get to finally see what can truly be done with such resources, besides buying corporate swimming pools on the penthouse floor for some shmuck.

Tried WoW for a few months. SO NOT worth $15 a month. Still not sure if it was worth the $50 I paid for the box. GW is, hell GW is worth $15 a month, but the fact that it isn't just makes me happier every time I play.

This is a ridiculous line of questioning purely because Guild wars if a non subscription game and has been designed thus. Of course no one would pay an online fee!

Seriously, if a monthly fee was added do people think that ANet is going to completely restructure itself and how it applies itself to this game for a fraction of the player base @ $10/person? I think not. Who is going to pay for the current system just the way it is now?
Just today I was reading about the current expansion system for Star Wars Galaxies. Bottom line is ... a rushed job through and through and people are expected to pay for it. Some do, I call these people suckers since all susbscription payers are shelling out cash for is to be beta testers and guinea pigs.

Had I never discovered GW, I'd be playing WoW right now if not for its monthly fee.
I will not pay per month for a game. Period. Don't give me the lectures about how its "entertainment value" yadda yadda yadda. Its pretty colored pixels on a screen to me. It has no impact on my real life, on my girlfriend, on my work, or on any of my friends. Its just a game, like checkers or chess or monopoly. Therefore, it isn't worth it to pay another $50 for 3 months just to waste my time on a video game- the reason I play is out of boredom, and for a little bit of fun when I've got the time.
I'm better off putting that $50 towards a night out with a pretty girl and improving my relashionship with her than getting my uber-item.

Don't people do research?
ANet have NO plans to charge for the running of the game. You Buy the Game, and Expansion Packs (if wanted, they will be optional). The Servers are run free of charge.
I knew that 2 months before the game was even launched :S

The question was hypothetical, I think.
The monthly fees games have aren't spent on nothing. It's spent on server upkeep, new content, and support (GMs).
Let's compare it to something... It's like buying a Tennis racket and ball, then paying a monthly fee to rent the court, you're pretty much garuanteed usage unless there's a court downtime.

I would not prefer a monthly fee. Why? Well, because it would put me out business.
You see I am one of those people that runs a video game item brokerage company. You know, real money for pixel crack. How do I do it? It's usually just me and a few kids around the neighborhood playing GW nonstop. We build up wealth and items farming in some out of the way spots still not nerfed. Amazingly, these places are very close to a zone portal, so it's really easy to go back and forth and bank the items and gold.
Now with the sluggish economy and summer, I have an entire workforce. Teens are broke and it's either me or McDonald's. I can't offer them workers comp because they are considered private contractors, but they get to play the game as a job! And all wages are under the table, it's up to them to file their taxes not me.
Speaking of getting hurt on the job, there was an issue with this recently. One of my contractors, little Jimmy got a repetitive usage injury from sixty-five hours of gameplay in a week. That kid is a trooper, he didn't tell me abut the problem until like two days after it happened. I gave him $50, told him to take the week off, and ice the hand.
I also told him if his parents question the injury, tell them he got it after having to write a long term paper thanks to the No Child Left Behind Law.
Back on point here, I pull in about $4500 a week, I pay the 15 kids that work for me $2000 total and I keep the rest. It's bad enough the kids won't play for free, but volunteer doesn't work as well. Trust me, I tried the not paying people route. You get what you don't pay for as far as labor is concerned. You have to give them a wage, nothing too crazy, but competitive.
This is the only expense I want to incur. If I was to have to pay, then my additional costs would be another $208 a month at say, $13 a month for 16 accounts I'm estimating. I would have to fire my house keeper.
That will not due, so I say no increase.

I don't want to see the game going subscription, however, I would consider paying a small monthly fee - maybe $2 USD per month, for the option of playing on a "mature" server.
Sorry, but all that l337 speak makes my 45 year old head ache ;-)

I would never pay for ANY game at ANY time beyond the box price.

I do not pay to play ever. I only bought this game because it was free to play. I'm sure they aren't considering charging monthly at all. If they did though, I would not play this game ever again. I too would sell my account.

Yeah, no monthly fees please. Some of us just don't buy stuff over the internet. Old habits die hard.
EDIT: Plus I wouldn't pay monthly or even annually to keep playing a game.
