I have never been into a Guild battle. BUt I want to know what is the maximum number of people in a guild fight? For example will I be able to fight 50 vs. 50?

8v8 is the max. I think it's the min too...

Yes, currently guild battles are restricted to 8v8 with one available map. They have, however, promised more.

I believe the minimum is either 1-2 people and any (or all) of the four henchmen you want to bring along. I strongly urge you to bring the full eight people--who hopefully have teamspeak--if you are going to do a guild battle though... at least competitively.

You need at least 5 to enter a GvG match. You've got 0 chance of winning though.

And don't enter a GvG battle as a level 6. We fought about 3 battles against people between levels 6 - 11 and it wasn't good. Most of the guilds out there will be using lvl 17+ and most of those will be using lvl 20. If you really want to try out GvG, make a lvl 20 RP character or a PvP premade.

Well, they don't expect you to merely have 8 people in your guild- that's just the limit on how many you are allowed to take into a battle at one time. Guild Wars is supposed to be based around player skill being the deciding factor in matches. If you allow different numbers of players, you run into problems like matches between a guild of 30 players and a guild that has 15.... obviously, even if the 15 players are considerably more skilled than the 30, the 30-man guild has a very distinct advantage.

As far as large-scale combat, the developers have decided on 8vs8 for maps, simply because 8 is about the highest number of people you can get on a team and still have skill and strategy be the deciding factor in matches. I can tell you that on a team with 8 players and 8 pets, it's overly confusing for healing and similar roles. Another issue to consider with larger numbers of players in a mission is skill balance, especially skills that affect the entire team, or an area. If you pack 20 characters into a fairly enclosed area, AoE spells like firestorm become far more powerful than any single-target skills. Other spells such as Aegis or Heal Party which affect your entire party become far more powerful than they are. There's already a noticeable difference in the effectiveness in some skills in 4vs4 arena combat versus 8vs8 tombs or guild battles.... having larger battles unbalances skills, and it's pretty much impossible to balance every skill for extremely different sizes of battles. I wouldn't expect ArenaNet to add support for any matches with more than 8 players on a team, simply for balance reasons.

Discovery!!! PETS!!!

16v16 possible, though only 8v8 are actual players the rest are npc pets.

However where this is handy is when the other team doesn't have any pets.

Bang 16 vs 8 is possible, with (charm animal) skill charms attached to a bunch of superior necklaces One for each in your party...

I didn't think to try this ingame, till just this second, but I would imagine this is possible as I saw pets in the academy GvG battle.

Imagine challenging a guild and suddenly seeing a full complement of wide ranging professions, all with lvl 10 or better Lynx aiding them. OUCH!!!

It is true that Area effect spells might be slightly gain the edge. But to me is more fun to fight with a bunch of people like in Dark Age Camelot. As for match up and fairness goes maybe we should have fighting over 8 as optional, the only way you can enter an over 8 people battle is by sending a challenge to another guild and they accept. I think they're planning to come out with something call castle war, and in that case 8 people to me is not enough. (what kind of castle only have 8 guards?).

Who is planning on coming out with something called Castle War? Sounds very interesting.

I also don't really like the idea of 8v8. It seems small, but I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. I'd love a 50v50 battle. It may not be balanced and it may be crazy and hectic, but it would undoubtavely be A LOT of fun!!!!
