Salvaging Items; what am i doing wrong?

Hi, I have been playing gw for about two months now, and during that time I have found about four gold items. None of them have been weapons I could use so I have tried to salvage the unlocked components to sell. Each and every time i have tried to salvage an unlocked upgrade, I recieve wood, bone, iron, steel, or someother unwanted crafting material. I have lost a +30 hammer grip of fortitude, a + 30 staff wrapping, a +5 insightful staff head, and something else i forget. Am I just unlucky, or am i doing something wrong?

Are you useing an expert salvage kit? If you use that you should get the mod.

I always make sure that i use an expert salvage kit, I must just be unlucky

could just be badluck, I've lost a 5/1 vampiric hammer haft
and got I think iron or something instead with the
expert kit. Salvaging with the expert salvage kit lets
you get weapon upgrades but not at 100% success rate.
Mind you the runes are at 100% chance though. ( since one
of the last updates )

Well, not to be an ass, but if you don't need it, then why fret about it. Whats important is that its unlocked for pvp right? Yeah, I can relate though. I've had a string of bad luck with salvaging. It happens.

How about selling/trading it for something you *could* use?

I totally agree. when I lost that 5/1 vampiric shaft, I watch tons
of $$ fall down the drain. gold which i could of use for fissure armor
materials.

I know, you can make alot of money this way, I'm just too lazy to leave the info in trade channels, and don't want to clog up the sale boards here either. I usually just keep the components and runes anyway though, in case any of my guildmates need em.
