it's really quite sad how i can never get passed it. here's the thing. i've attempted the co-op mission at ruins of surmia 5 times already (to get through the bonus). no matter how much i try reminding my "teammates" on how to get the bonus, one asshole keeps ruining it. i wish i had screenshots to show how much of an ass one guy was. for the sake of reminding, i let my team know that 'you're NOT supposed to kill the group of charr holding the flame, let them open up the gate so we can get in and finish the bonus.'................but to no avail. and then after that group of charr is killed, the guy says 'but you're supposed to kill them since they're bad guys.'
man...i'm just disappointed at society right now; can't even do a simple thing as listening to others...so sad
any feel free to post your own "asshole teammate" moments here (i wouldn't imagine there being any in PvP, but if you have those too feel free to share)

You know what's really sad is that that is one of the LONGEST missions---at least early on in the game. One creep ruining it for you really bites. I feel your pain, mthegreatone.
However, if you'd like, you can look me up IG (IGN: Elia Windrunner). She's my lower level ranger that's at Nolani so I'm just one mission ahead of you. I'd be happy to help you out if you need a hand with reliable people who actually KNOW the mission!

I feel for you...but people can be great too. I've only been playing ANY online game (this one) for about three weeks, mostly in company with my husband who is very very very good. But he's stuck his heels in about leading me through everything, and told me I need to team up with *gasp* strangers. I am very shy about doing this being that I'm so inexperienced.
So this morning I teamed up with a group to do the Fort Ranik mission. Things went very smoothly, up till I brightly took it upon myself to fire the catapult that kills the fire-worshipping Charr and didn't wait till two people in my group were out of range of the catapult, killing them both. Fortunately, I'd packed Resurrection with me, so I had that going for me.
And they were all wonderful about it. I still can't believe it how nice they were. So, I'd say, try again. Someone will listen and help you out.

You can do that mission with Henchies fairly easily too. Just take your time. I have done most of the missions with Henchies. The ones I seem to need a group of real people with is the three Ascention Missions.
BTW your original post is why I usually use Henchies.

it really sucks when people leave, but if its that bad you can just do it with henches... that mission isnt exactly hard
Sir Skullcrasher
oh yes, people can be a jerk and ruin games for you! But hopefully you can find a group that is willing to help you through the mission and bonus there.

I'm playing a healer, joined a PUG last night to do the Althea's Ashes quest. Couple party members stop twice to conduct a 2 min barter session over some loot. we get through to the temple, no problems, then the stairs up. Our damage dealers can't seem to fathom that they have to take the shaman first. so they just stand on the steps plinking away at that Charr hunters, that are constantly being healed. I can only keep up with the healing for about 1min to 1min 30 before I'm out of energy. then the comments start flying "WTF where's the healing" "Can't you keep me healed". I got so ticked I had to log off, and didn't sleep well because it irritated me so bad (Maybe I shouldn't play right before heading to bed ). I've been in some good PUGs, and made it to Amnoon Oasis with my Guildies, so I can't be that terrible a healer, but every now and then I hit a group like this that makes me want to give up on PUGs and play either with my guild or with henchies and say to heck with the rest. I've added more people to my ignore list since I made up a healer than at any other stage. Sorry to go out on a rant here, I just needed to vent a little.

ehhh.. I know it's not the same as actually doing the mission with a group of friends/co-op. But if you whisper me ingame I'll come do the mission with you. I say not the same because my lvl20 ranger is going to make the mission incredibly easy for you. But atleast you'll finally get past it. If the two of us do it and I play just a support role...we can make an effort to emulate the difficulty you would have with 4 players who need to do the mission. But I understand what it's like to have to try a mission 5-6 times because you can't find a decent group.

Yeah, there are definitely morons, but for the record, I've just beaten Thunderhead Keep with 6 guys and a hench, and man we had a great group. We started with a full group + a hench, but one of us dropped out. We thought we were going to fail for sure. But we kept going, and with a staggering amount of discipline, we won. Good fun.

At least you didn't get stuck with the one impatient immature teammate who likes to rush in and just kill em all, with the gung-ho attitude, without even thinking of the consequences of aggrovating 15 mobs at once. This has happend to me many times btw, on missions, and regular quests. Those guys are whats wrong with society. There needs to be training seminars on how to properly talk, and plan with your groups to complete missions successfully, or something to help these guys listen.
Man, i feel your pain, and you're right, it does suck.

well i didn't mean to be harsh. i'm not frustrated with all of society obviously...as a matter of fact as soon as i posted this thread i went back into the game to try to attempt the bonus one more time and we managed to finish it lol. it's just that for some reason it's easier to find dimwits playing the game than it is to find serious people to play the game. as we already know there's a reason they're called cooperative missions after all. and yes as efficient it would be to play the game with henchies, needless to say it's more fun to play with real ppl even if you're not sure if they're serious players or not...for now i take back what i said; ever since i finished the mission with the ppl i realized that there is good in the world lol. happy gaming all
Ol Dirty Scott
that doesnt make em jerks, just morons.
Than
I've found it best to just use henchman for that bonus. Saves my temper atleast.

I'm curious as to why everyone thinks that bonuses give skill points.. its just 1000 xp.
been that way since at least the january beta when I started.

uh...they don't? dang...there goes my way of getting all my skills...

Sure, it's not easy at time to keep your eyes on all the stuff that's going on, on your screen, but it helps a lot.

In my defense, when I played that mission the first time, I also killed them right away, thinking that not getting the bonus was a bug.
But then again, there was nobody who told me not to kill them.

- "I own everybody, I'm invicible, I can take 8 Jade Bow at the same time"
- "I don't have to listen to anybody. I have a free will"
- "What do they know?"
- "I play for fun, there fore I do what I want"
- "I don't care about no team, I only care about myself"
- "uhhh, someone wants to be rezed, so I better stop healing the one person that can make a differecne"
We all make mistakes, but only few have the guts and the honor to admit: "It was me, I'm sorry for that".

Asshole Teammate moment?
With my E/Mo, our party got killed and one person stood there for a few minutes, then after running around near town, that b------ left! that really annoyed me
If anyone's interested, I've got 2 in Pre-searing and 2 in post-searing: 1 in Old Ascalon and one who can travel almost everywhere. Look for one of these characters (Note: I will need help on my level 7 and lower characters)

For myself the best times experiencing PUGs is when those that are being assholes or when they receive a -ve death penalty leave on their own accord. Sometimes it leaves determined folk who are willing to work together and the satisfaction from completing the mission/quest having less people is immense

Another a-hole moment:
One warrior who apparently considered himself Conan the Barbarian aggroed EVERYTHING during the Sanctum Cay mission. In the end where you have to wait and defend the v____r, he ran off to godknowswhere, gets a good beating and then runs back, pulling more mobs to the v____r. 5 of us got killed. The last dude was smart, he ran around and managed to make it, getting all of us to complete the mission.
All's well that ends well I guess, but I was so pissed off back then.

not so much A-holes as just plain morons.
I've found that groups are a lot worse in the missions now then when I started playing the game. When it came out, I was able to just add anyone saying "LFG" and form a good solid PUG that could beat a mission. I didn't fail a mission until thunderhead keep! Yes, I even beat Elona, Thirsty River, and Dunes on the first try with PUGs.

One suggestion, as your topic indicates you haven't realized a basic truth.
Suggestion: Get used to it.
Revise your subject to "some ppl WILL be jerks..." and you'll have a better outlook on how these games are played. You can't avoid the jerks. You can get lucky now and then, and not get one by chance, but you can't avoid them if you are sellecting from the random playerbase. Getting into an active guild is a good start to at least identifying the jerks so you can avoid them.
