Deep Wounds: Stabbing a Rusty Knife Through Their Bleeding Eyes
TopGun
I'm not sure if my math is completely correct, but let me just figure this out loud, so if I'm mistaken, I can be corrected:
Quote:
When a target suffers a deep wound, they lose life equal to 20% of their maximum, which doesn't return until the deep wound is removed.
Whoa now, let's revert to sixth grade here and do some math: I have 420 health, when I'm hit with a deep wound, 20%, or .2, of that is lost, therefore:Quote:
420 * .2 = 84
Deep Wound will do 84 damage, plus the amount of the skill used, let's say Gash, which will tack on an additional 10 damage or so. Thus, if someone were to use a Deep Wound inducing move on my character, they would deal nearly 100 damage- is this correct?
EverBlue
What deep wound does is make it so you never HAD that 84 health. Effectively lowering your health from 420 to 336. So until you lose deep wound, your max health would be 336.
TopGun
So basically, it does no extra damage? If, for example, that foe was at max health, the deep wound would give him 84 less health, but if he's 84 hp down from max, its useless?
theclam
I believe that it also reduces the effectiveness of healing.
arredondo
It takes that amount from him no matter how much health he has. It returns that same amount of health when the Deep Wound heals naturally or is cured by a Condition removal. The moral of the story? Kill him while he's wounded.
Black Raine
It does extra damage. Go test out something like Endure Pain. It gives you X amount of bonus max HP.
If you currently have 200 HP, and 400 max HP, and Endure Pain gave you 80 HP, your current HP would go up to 280 and max would reach 480. If you were currently at 50 HP and you lose the effects of Endure Pain, your HP would drop to 1. Same thing happens with Deep Wound. And it reduces healing effeciency by 20%.

Interesting- at first I thought that I'd see 84 dmg being extracted from the HP bar of my enemy, but this isn't the case because its being taken from the MAX- thus, you will see no damage reduction when the move is used, correct? Unless its a killing blow... however, whoever its being used ON will get the debuff on his screen, and loose a whopping 84 hp, correct?
TheGreatBoo
No, they will only see the effects of deep wound appear, and the damage that you dealth doing that attack. Not the removal of the % total health.

Since I use Sever Artery - Gash - Final Thrust in conjunction, I hit them for bleeding, then I add on deep wound, then I can use Pure Strike to push them over half way point(If it's needed), and do upwards of 100+ damage with Final Thrust. Deep Wound can be QUITE an annoying condition, 'cause it's basically like using a Superior Rune, except you lose more health and don't get any bonuses.

so...
1) people that have allready taken damage of say 150 won't see much of a change. like a spell with exhaustion, your max is lowered, but you don't really lose energy, just the max of it?
2) when deep wound ends, they don't get health back, just the max again.
so a deep wound should be inflicted in start of battle, where it can really can take some health away?

If you at at 50% health when you take a deep wound, you are still at 50% health. Your max health is down by 20% though, so you have effectivly lost damage.
If you are at 50% health when your deep wound ends, you are still at 50% health. You gain health back. It will not be the ammount that you lost if you have taken damage under a deep wound.
I have 500. I take a deep wound, this gives me 400. I take 200 damag. My deep wound ends. That leaves me with 250 health.
Equip a focus item in one of your weapon slots and a hammer in the other and switch between them, watch your energy as you do. Same idea.

I had ppl killed by a gash when their health was at like 25 % and no...the damage from the gash itself wasn't the killing factor here. I guess it is the same as with the blood rituals the necros are so crazy about killing themselves with.
Greygon
I use Gash after Sever Artery all the time it definitely isn't useless. If you throw a prep in with this like Poison and use a stance that increases your number of hits like Flurry or Frenzy (to build adrenaline faster) and use a weapon with elemental damage, you can take down MOST opponents fairly efficiently. You DO just have to brute through anything that won't bleed though, so know what you are gonna be fighting before using this build. Having a weapon that improves adrenaline charge is a plus too!
