Crazy Things Like the Gnome-Invasion Post-Release?
Weezer_Blue
As some of you probably know, the ends of the beta events are probably one of the funnest (lol... funnest) things in Guild Wars. After watching Rotscale trample across a city, seeing people get incinerated by Gwen, watching Oink, Garden Gnomes, and Infernal Wurms invade the city under the fireworks and watching people dance meniacly, I have to wonder, will the developers do this after release?! Obviously, they can't drop gold and experience from the sky, but I will really miss the massive death, destruction, and humor that we have seen every beta weekend. It would be nice to get killed by infernal wurms every once in a while

I was thinking about that yesterday while watching the fireworks. Would be a shame if they never do such things anymore. But now they'll likely have to find a reason for it though, can't use the "end of beta" 'excuse' anymore.
I didn't was there when Rotscale came, feels like I missed something.

They definitely need a reason for further celebrations, yes. If I were a new player to Guild Wars that had never participated in any of the BWEs (or had even heard of the game or what transpired until well after release) I know i'd probably be more than a little confused if I walked into town and randomly got killed by David the Homicidal Gnome.
The problem, then, comes from the fact that Guild Wars is a global game in a centralized world. Are people in the U.K. going to take it well if AN lights off some in-game fireworks on the 4th of July? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, when you have to appeal to so many people at once, you need to stay as nondescript and inoffensive as possible .. so, as I suggested at the after-hours party .. that there be "in game" holidays. Make up a calendar, pick out what would be important dates in the history of Tyria, and do events for them. That way, people can still enjoy the showyness that streaming technology can afford in a way that fits with the game, and doesn't alienate anyone in the process.

I don't mind them celebrating real world events as long as they don't stick with just US events. How about Canada Day and the dates that the 125 other countries that GW players come from celebrate. I'd prefer ingame events though like maybe more ANet staff weddings (fake or real, I don't care) or just celebrating the last day of the month (just to see some gones. I missed the ending )

Couldnt they just do holidays pertaining to that specific realm?
Spooky
I don't think it would be entirely feasible to celebrate based on Realm, when you consider how many countries fall under the banner of "Europe."
I just figure that doing them based on Tyrian history would add a nice little bit of immersion to the world that we're in, rather than the world we're trying to get away from.

id toss my vote in going with Tryian based events, more fair to everyone and it doesnt look like AN is "siding" with any one country/group/ethics etc.
They could also run things like this say at the end of a tourny, or when a ladder reset is done, or just for a random reason, like a major update is realeased or a chapter is about to come out, that kind of stuff

They could post the In game events and hoidays on the main site . That way the new players will (hopefuly) be less confused and we would know when and where to go for the party. I am going to miss the freaky gnomes and giant wurms though
Thy Shadow Wolf
The real thing that we need to have is more Dance Parties I really liked last night's ending though. Deadly Gnomes, Fireworks, Raining Gold and XP, Worms, and the almighty "Connection Error"

There could always be Anniversary days. On April 28, 2006, there will be random death and destruction that could repeat themselves throughout the day to accomodate different timezones.
In-Game holidays sound interesting as well. Something on the lines of Ascalon Memorial Day or the birthday of a certain character who will remain nameless as not to spoil anything.

I think we should commemorate the Day of the Killer Gwen. So every year in Mid-March, Gwen (and clones) will go on a rampage throughout GW
However, I still hope the Devs will allow us to attack monsters spawned in LA, Ascalone etc. The Last Stand against Gwen!!!

Gaile said in her last interview that areanet will continue to do events like this, I dont think people would be to terribly offended if they did the 4th of july for america, just as much as i wouldnt be offended if they selebrated quanza or the japanese or Korean independence days. They already have the fireworks programmed, I imagine they will probably do Christmas since christians are bent on taking over the world and are consuming countries... Er i mean its such a widespread thing

I saw em all but rotscale, had a test early the next morning =(
Tanik

Redd Sciron

missed it all parents told me to go to bed
I think that the ingame holidays would be a good and very popular idea. All the areas should be temporarily open for the events so everyone could see everything. I especially want to see an army of gnomes
