Sick and tired of the annoying brat who - in all chat - flames the person who didn't sell him something for a low price (or any other reason which makes him explode)?
I am. I spend very little time in major cities because they're rampant with idiots who think it's all about them, or lame 12-year-olds trying at no end to sell their crappy hammer for 20k. It's started to spread into random towns.
Lets have a vote function, somebody can start it, and when 'x' amount of people vote yes, the idiot is booted from the district, and not permitted to return for 10 minutes.
Or, we can do this in a more satisfying manner. Have the district monitor its clients for signs that they are annoying people. (i.e. all caps, spam, if you can get it to recognize flaming then that's perfect. "WTS" in all chat really pisses me off - there's a "trade chat" for a reason, the only reason somebody won't be able to see your item is if they have the trade chat turned off, in which case THEY'RE NOT INTERESTED!) Then broadcast when they've met the level of annoyance required for a smite. Anyone in the district can then "/smite <n00b>" and their avatar is knocked down for 30 seconds, and they cannot talk for 1 minute. The effects build up every time someone does it. Thereby forcing the jackass to leave the district if he wants to do anything for the next 20 minutes.
Just a few ideas in controlling the small percentage of the population that is pissing off us mature people.

wouldn't the mature response be to ignore them?
Muffles 12
I like the whole smite thing, but some people might think it is cool, or challenge a friend to see who can get smited the most.
Just a possibility.
Just a possibility.

vote function would be abused therefore it's a horrible idea
one example: all mercs would get booted by poor, jealous players, even tho being a merc is a perfectly legitimate thing to do

I think the smite power may get abused. I mean someone could just be havin' a horrible day and then get on Guild Wars and start smiting random people. Just a though.

Also, there aren't that many poor, jealous idiots who are looking to go somewhere at any one time. You won't get the vote of 10-15 people to be booted for desperately trying to make money. It is legitimate, however much it takes advantage of desperate people who can't find a map.
I never hired a runner, I used the internet. I have maps of every explorable area with every city saved on my harddrive. I've been everywhere you can be with the character I use to explore primarily.

Even runners in the Desert are an unnecessary waste.
And anything can be abused by a human being, will be abused. Does that make every idea a horrible idea? A vote function would be a lot better than an invisible big brother mechanic that tallies possible infractions, as that could go the wrong way.

And then it should tell you when he's kicked.
"<This person> was kicked from the district."

Sounds more like a personal problem, just ignore them you CAN filter out the channels if u don't want to hear them

</kick [playername] "Reason in quotes so that judgement may be passed.">
Then a district wide "Player X has been voted to be kicked because "Reason 1"
Each </kick [playername]> following that will show strikes against that player until they are expelled from the district.
This idea is great and shadows the Punkbuster </kick>s I used to make, but this will be horrificly hard to code.

The whole trade system is a joke.
Almost anybody can find a max damage anything....... To think that idiots would even try to sell the stuff to even bigger idiots who actually buy the stuff makes me cringe. Loot is so darned abundant in GW, the whole market has very little value to most decent players.

That way only the most annoying can be terminated from the district by mass vote and not everyone and their brother just because the sellers in the district want to free up room so they can be heard.

And I think that the effort to make the code would be well worth it to get rid of the jackasses who ruin what time people who don't care for idiots do spend in affected cities.

Here is a novel idea. Make it so you cannot EQUIP an item if the basic attributes aren't able to be met. It makes no sense to me when I see a lvl 10 guy using a Fiery Dragon sword.
This would eliminate the need for players to burn gold on the "cool" item for their image, get rid of the guys hawking stuff to unsuspecting newbies and help level the economy. While tehy are at it, Anet should introduce traders for weapon upgrades and higher level drops (blue, purple and gold items). Let the market dictate price.
Dungeon Siege did a pretty good job of this when dealing with the traders, both for buying and selling.
Time for Anet to step up and stop people using items that do not meet the min requirements.
BurningPants
Picture this, I am in dist 1 of Tombs of Primeval Kings (which is usually full of players). And my friend can't seem to get into the district for the reason being that the district is full (reason 33). Since he's the last person we need to join the party to begin we start convincing friends/guildmates/partymates in dist 1 to use the kick function on some random person advertising his class and interest in joining a party. So we abuse the system to get my friend into district one while the poor random person is stuck in district 9 with little hope of getting back into district 1.
At that level, the kick system is flawed. Just be mature about it, ignore any trade spammers. As for flamers, there is an ignore function in your friends list, give it a try.

I dont mind the high priced junk. No one goes for it anyways. It is the spamming that drives me crazy. But noobs r noobs sooner or later they will learn. All of us were once noobs.

I agree, Ristaron, that it shouldn't be shown as I look back on the post. I was just trying to relate systems I am familiar with to what could be implemented.
BurningPants, good example of a kick system gone haywire.

I dont think if you havent got to Dragon Lair in PvE, you should not be able to play in HoH. I hate joining a group of people that dont know what the ---- is going on. They think its like Ascalon arena where you fight whomever you please. Some of my groups cannot even past the Unworthy!

I vote you off the forum

There is an easier way to settle the selling issue...
Make an auction house like I've seen suggested elsewhere on the site.
One vendor who's sole purpose is to take your item and take bids on them for a length of time. Star Wars does this and I think it's a wonderful system. Then we wouldn't have people shouting in Local so much about the stuff they are trying to sell...

N00b is not a word, but I digress...
New people come to things which are new to them. If it interests them. Therefore, controlling "new people" is as realistic a goal as, say, conversing with the moon on the finer aspects of a tv sitcom. It is pointless.
