Runes
GoblinFlesh
Im really sorry if you guys have heard this a lot, but what are all the functions of runes? Are they worthwhile to have? Are they permanent or not? When and where do you use them? I've been told about them, but I'm still really confused as to how they work. Thanks again guys. E8D

They are definatly worth while to have. Runes provide a bonus to one attribute to be equipped on one piece of armor. While you wear the armor enhanced by a rune, the effect is permanent. I'd suggest at least a minor rune in every attribute you use.

Runes are used on armor. Minor Runes give 1 skill point each for your Primary attributes. Major runes give much more but at a great cost to your Health, eg -50.
Upgrades are used on weapons, & can seriously improve them.

When you get better armor, try using an EXPERT salvage kit on the old armor with the rune on it - you might get that rune back to use on the new armor. (Sometimes it doesn't work though!)
GoblinFlesh
Which rune do you find the most beneficial for a fire elementalist like myself?
Ultimate_Gaara
well if your using fire element then you should use a elementalest rune of fire magic or what not...
GoblinFlesh
thanks....what about adding mana points?
GoblinFlesh
by mana of course i mean energy, sorry about that

Runes don't add energy. However, if you're an Elementalist, you can use a rune of Energy Storage, which would give you energy.
Since no one explained runes comprehensively, I'll try:
Runes are items that you can permanently apply to a piece of armor. You can have up to 5 runes in total, one for each piece of armor. Once you apply a rune to a piece of armor, you can often get the rune back by using an Expert Salvage kit on the armor, which will destroy the armor. You can replace a rune with a different one by applying the new rune.
There are three Runes (a Minor, a Major, and a Superior) for every single Attribute in the game. In addition, Warriors can have a Rune of Absorbtion. You can only use a Rune of your primary class. An E/Me can only use Elementalist Runes, not Mesmer Runes. Vigor Runes can be used by any class.
Vigor Runes:
Minor - +30 Health
Major - +41 Health
Superior +50 Health
Warrior Runes of Absorbtion:
Minor - -1 Damage Taken
Major - -2 Damage Taken
Superior - -3 Damage Taken
All other Runes:
Minor - +1 Attribute
Major - +2 Attribute, -50 Health
Superior - +3 Attribute, -75 Health
The only Runes in the game are Vigor, Absorbtion, and Attribute.
Runes do NOT stack. The highest level rune is the only one counted. If you have a Minor Rune of Fire Magic, a Major Rune of Fire Magic, and a Superior Rune of Fire Magic, you will only have +3 Fire Magic.
Major Runes are generally regarded as a waste, since for only 25 health more, you can have an additional point.

Vigors are 30/41/50, not 30/60/90.
