Where'd the warthog go? (pre-sear)

Okay, I know I've seen a warthog frolicing around the pond (pre-sear, where you do the rogue bull quest), but now that I'm trying to find and charm it as a pet, I can't find it.

I'm a lvl 4 N/R, did the bull quest on my way to the catacombs, did some Necro questing there, went to Regent Valley and did the first Ranger quest, got rid of my Stalker and chose Ranger as my secondary, and then went to the pond to try to find & tame the warthog.

Is there a limited window of opportunity for him being there or something, or does he only appear randomly? What's the deal?

I've never seen a Warthog that can be tamed anywhere in pre-searing Ascalon, you can only find them in Kryta.

He doesn't always appear. Just head back to town and out until you see him.

There's usually one running around near the pond below the Stage, just outside of Ascalon. If you're a Mesmer you have to kill a rogue bull in this pond. They're small and hard to see, so just keep your eyes opened.

I just got a warthog in pre a couple days ago. I've seen him as close as the Ascalon city gates. You might want to run around that area with your 'alt' key held down until you find him.

Mine was near the pond, but I it took me a while to find him because I was looking too close to the city.

you will see 1 or 2 possibilities

1- there will be 2 striders

2- there will be 1 strider, then between him and the lake will be a hog you can charm

There are usually a lot of prize winning hogs or whatever over near devona.. never tried to charm them though.

Unfortunately, you can't charm the "Prize Winning Hog", only the Warthog.

I charmed a warthog yesterday. I found it by the pond where that big bull is.

If you do the Across the Wall quest, there are 5 Warthogs over there. Instead of going like straight-rightish to do the quest, you turn left into a ton of Charr. I got mine from there because supposedly Prima Strategy Guide said there were Fern Lizards there. I would have been happier with a Lizard, but my little Warthog is much cooler, he is so much tinier than all the other pets in the game. Its funny to see him take on a group of Grawl alone and win.

Warthogs are all over the place. Just keep looking he'll make his walk back.

Okay, good. Just wanted to make sure he hadn't disappeared or something. I was disappointed when I discovered that my N/R couldn't tame the Moss Spider for no good reason (since when is a spider not an animal?? bah!), so I'm gonna have to settle for the Warthog until I reach lvl 20 and the Underworld...

Thanks everyone!

Spiders can indeed be tamed. Beef up your "charm animal" skill temporarily.

Moss Spiders afaik can't be tamed as when you select them it comes up with the "not an animal" type message. The only spifders that can be tamred are the ones in the UnderWorld (or is it Fissue of Woe? bah..)

Unless of course they have changed that... Hmm.. I have a ranger in pre-searing, maybe I should log on and see if they have changed that or not...
