E/Mo Tanker Farmer (fairly long post)
Freddeh
Ok heres my idea for a build using a hydromancer, it involves heavy use of the water defence subset as well as many monk smiting and energy management skills, the whole point is to be able to have a mob hit you and not really hurt you while you are able to spam the divine boon/zealots fire combo.
Attribs:
Energy Storage ~8 + 1
Water Magic 12 + 4
Smiting Prayers 10
Skills (in no particular order):
Zealots fire
Divine boon
Balthazar's spirit
Armor of Mist
Armor of Frost
Ward against Pain {E}
Frozen Burst (Not sure about this one...possibly balthazars aura instead)
Retribution, or Essence bond, OR Live vicariously if i put a couple points into healing (i can get it up to 3...so maybe 4 per hit, not sure if it's worth it)(this slot really depends on if i need more damage or more mana after i do a few tests.)
Another idea, Aura of Restoration would be nice for health management if needed...since im spamming boon i might as well get even more health from it
Gear (hopefully):
20% longer enchantment time staff (or wand/water hand-hold thingy (forgot name lol) if its possible (anyone know if it is?))
Any top def gear with a sup water rune and a minor energy storage is fine, i'm going to go for the pyro set in droknars just cause im too broke for the expensive stuff )
The idea is to go in with Balths spirit, essence bond, and use armor of mist to pull and guard against the original attack, once enough critters as i deem possible to survive against are on to me i'll stop, case ward against pain and then armor of frost. Then cast zealots fire and frozen burst (or balths aura)and start spamming divine boon, while continuing to refresh AoM, AoF, and WaP. With all three of these on with 70AL armor (i believe thats the max for ele armor correct? im not sure haven't checked in a while) and 16 water it stacks up to 70 w/ +15vsfire Armor + 42 AoM + 40vsphys -24vsfire AoF + 22 w/ +50vsfire WaP (probably more, haven't gotten it yet) you have a total of 174 AL vs phys and 213 AL vs fire!
However all three cannot be on for the whole time, but you can get really close, number crunch time!
16 water magic base length/reload:
AoM 21/30
AoF 35-36/45
WaP says 18 secs max on the site, but so does AoM so i'm guessing about 20/20
16 water magic +20% longer enchantment times:
AoM 21 + 4-5 = 25-26
AoF 35-36 +7-8 = 42-44
WaP stays at ~20 as its not an enchantment
Now, out of these 3 Armor of Mist has the longest cast time, so ideally i will cast it while WaP and AoF are in affect. So i can run in with AoM on and cast the other two when i stop to attack. And then continually recast WaP as it dies (i will have approx. 1 second of lack of prot due to cast time, but again i should have the other 2 defenses up). and AoM and AoF as they recharge after death, if i time it right they should conicide nicely.
This is the basic strategy for any farmable mob (basically melee).
Now, to get my secondary changed to monk, where do i do that again?
Any comments/suggestions?
Oh, and before you all go 'OMGWTF YOU FARMER/ECONOMY KILLING @#$!' let me tell you that i name i am not a hardcore farmer, this is my first attempt at a farm char and ive had the game since it came out. Also this is more for fun than for money

*cough*bump...id like to get at least SOME help here

12 smite
10 + 4 energy
8 + 1 earth
armor of earth, ether renewal, balth spirit, balth aura, zealots fire, aura of rest, divine boon, 8th slot depends on the mobs
You will have better success with this build. Decent armor, unlimited energy, decent damage output, and massive healing.

Max elementalist armor is 60.
Look for something, anything, to spam besides Divine Boon. Obviously, use Boon, but use something more useful for spamming. Even just Orison is ok (dump whatever leftover points you have in healing).
Note that Divine Boon isn't that great for non-Monks, since it's based on Divine Favor. Still a decent enough idea for tanking.
For the same reasons, Aura of Restoration is a great idea. It's exactly Divine Boon for solo Elementalists. There's no one else to heal, and it works even if you don't target yourself.
Continuing that thought, Kaylee Ann is also right on with Ether Renewal for the elite. Exactly what you want on this kind of build. Energy management and healing.
Kaylee Ann
The point of boon isn't for the skill effects but for using to literally spam the hell out of. Everything else a e/mo has has recast times or costs more energy, hence why you use boon. Also when ether renewal is down boon + AoR = 41 hp heal.
Volarian
I believe the 2ndary Monk quest is in....Seekers? or is it Elona's?
I know Necro & Warrior were in Hero's Audience

Can I get some comments on this build? I'm gonna test it today when I change my secondary. I havn't worked out the attributes yet but the skills are pretty much set.
skills:
ether renewal {e}
protective bond------------maguuma stade
balthazar's spirit-----------lion's arch
balthazar's aura------------forge
aura of restoration
[essence bond]^-----------beetletun
zealot's fire----------------forge
divine boon----------------lion's arch
(dmg skill)* smite----------yaks bend
^ switch w/ aura of restoration
* bring a big time dmg skill.
ex: aftershock, chain lightning, flame burst,
phoenix, inferno, crystal wave, lightning orb.
Low energy, short casting and recharge time for
this skill is preferred.
smite could work as well.
Note: decrease protection prayers after cast protective bond
and use the attributes wisely on the other 3.

You're going to run out of energy very quickly without Ether renewal. That skill is a must for any E/Mo smiting build... it's simply what makes it work.
Enigmatics
Boon with Aura of Restoration is what makes it better than boon alone. 45 health per second isn't too great, but it serves it's purpose 'till you can cast Renewal.

You will get much better results using an armor spell from the elem line instead of prot bond. I like armor of earth because you get a lot of armor for very few points in earth, and depending on the mobs I sometimes use another earth spell on my skill bar.
Also, use balth's aura + a round of divine boon spamming zealots while renewal is going + follow up with a final balths if needed. Besides bosses, there are very few mobs in the game that survive that 3 round combo. You won't need another damage spell besides that.

Thank you for all the ideas guys, i'll experiment with ether renewal (since i have that and not ward against pain yet) in this build.
Also i'll definately throw in aura of restoration, and i was going to dual up on balths essence and essence bond for energy management. The whole idea was to take up 10-15 zealots or griffins and be able to take the damage and continually spam divine, balths aura, and still keep alive, i was thinking about it and realized health would be a major issue there, so i pretty much decided on aura of rest. Didn't think of ether renewal but i will be running quite a few enchantments so the extra hp + energy will help a lot more than 20 armor.
I got my Mo secondary (it was in seekers passage btw) and the 60 armor suits last night so this build is almost ready to go. (all i need is to do are the 2 attribute quests :|)
New skill lineup:
Zealots fire
Divine boon
Balthazar's spirit
Armor of Mist
Armor of Frost
Ether Renewal {E}
Balthazar's Aura
Aura of Restoration

If u have only 105 health and u use protective bond, u'll only take about 5 dmg each time. and each divine boon + aura of restration will heal about 45 health (almost half) . so it's practically impossible to die. Unless you are stupid or mesmer/necro/rangers (with correct skills) are involved. The main problem w/ this build is energy management w/ protective bond, which can be countered w/ balthazar's spirit + ether renewal.

i was taking only 10-20 dmg with armor of mist only on and not fully-upgraded armor (mostly 45-51) from zealots, with my maxed armor and AoM AND AoF on i should take only 5 dmg each hit anyway...and with a lot more hitpoints to go on.

Problem here is you are basing having 12 protection in the build, which means you are gimping your damage for one. Also, with 12 in the build, you lose 3 energy while only gaining 2 back with balth and essence. Since most farmers pull as many mobs as possible on them to speed the process up of farming, you are going to be in real trouble when you have 9-12 mobs on you. You will be losing 9-12 energy every round of them wacking on you, on top of your less then par damage. You would have to farm mobs that die within the time frame of ether renewal on top of that. You are severely limiting your options when you can just use the 40+ armor from AoE and barely take any damage anyways, except from mass mobs chaining weapon powers at the same time.
With my original build you can farm pretty much anything in the game except the heavy disenchant builds (which are still possible with that left open 8th spot), which I wouldn't waste my time farming anyways just because they are a pain in the ass. Interupt mobs are also a pain in the ass, but it is still very possible to farm around them using alittle bit of tact and common sense. Your largest threat are mobs that use well of profane, and it would be best to just avoid those anyways.
