guild wars VS WoW
OverlordTyrael
Just as a quick post, I'd like to mention that i tried out WoW until i was about level 10, then quit completely because of the utter boredom that i felt. Playing a level 60 character in high end raids and PVP would be satisfying part, but up until the post-game of WoW, it's extremely boring: ie. collect 5 duskbat wings, collect 5 wolf fangs, kill 10 skeletons. The quests in Guild Wars had variety and are more than enough to keep me interested. Also, do not forget that Guild Wars was built to run comparatively smoothly even for people with low end graphics cards and 56k internet. Compared to WoW, where someone with 56k couldn't even play the game, 56k works fairly well in GW. If you seem to be lagging with your graphics card, turn down the resolution, turn off antialiasing and post processing, turn down textures, and you'll still get a great looking game that I suspect will run very smoothly. That's it for now, thanks for listening to me.

Guild Wars allows you to choose a primary and secondary profession from a list of 6 classes.
-Warrior
-Ranger
-Necromancer
-Monk
-Mesmer
-Elementalist
These classes are all balanced. There is none of this "If you want to win, be a ___" crap (even though the WoW forums are spammed with W/Mo's being overpowered rumors). While all class combinations can be put to good use, no matter how outlandish, there are some good combinations for each profession, and some you should avoid.
Your primary profession effects what you look like, how much armour you have (and what type you wear), how much energy and energy regen you get, and the runes you can use (these give + to attribute). It also decides your "Primary Attribute" which you only get if that's your primary profession.
Your secondary profession gives you access to skills and attributes, and in turn weapons from both your primary and secondary. While you cannot pump the primary attribute for your secondary, all the skills, even from that attribute, are still available to you.
The map is pretty big. I definatly wouldn't want to run all the way across it in one go. The entire game, with the exception of Outposts, is instanced. Meaning that you and the party you formed are thrown into your own copy of the world, seperate from everyone else. There aren't any people camping monster spawns, or kill stealers, and stuff of that sort. And you can't be PKed off guard.
Once you get to an outpost, it stays on your map. You can instantly travel to it any time you want by opening your map and clicking it.
The PvP is all gladiatorial style. There's no "go into the special PKing area with a big group and gank whoever we can and take his stuff". In PvP, you go to an Arena, form a party (unless it's a random arena), and enter the mission. Then you will be in yet another instanced zone, against the other team. You don't lose money or anything for losing, nor do you gain a whole lot.
When you buy a skill using an "RP character" (the ones that have access to everything, it automatically unlocks it for your "PvP characters" (the ones that can be created spur of the moment using things collected by other characters, but can only participate in PvP). You can also unlock items by collecting "Faction" from winning battles, and using it to purchase PvP only character unlocks.
There are ~25 missions in the game.
There are a hell of a lot more explorable areas which go all over the place, surrounding the mission maps that are small in comparison.
The games graphics are far superior, and before the release of the next expansion, the engine will be upgraded, even for those who choose not to buyt he expansion.
The game has no monthly fees.
The game has less "grind" (although, nowhere near as little as during beta/rant)

The one thing that me bought this game was good graphics and no fees. I have never played WoW but in the commercial they are more or less at the same level. But no fees is a great advantage for me that has no credit card and living outside US. Unless they accepted paypal but thats too rare.
**That $150 can be $1500 if you use said $15/mo in smart investing.

For me thats a lot.Now if I cant play GW during exams month and projects stuff. I am not regretting.

ill try to give you a take from a eq/wow players perspective...mind you i just started GW yesterday and i never reached the high end content of either eq or wow(i lose interest fast...grinding is not my thing)....
i honestly believe eq and wow are some of the greatest games ever made...the amount of depth in these games is unbelievable....i don't wanna make a very long post so ill just mention a couple quick things...
wow has much more depth that GW....and i don't just mean in pve ...but in pvp also...battlegrounds and just random pvp in the world is a lot of fun...altho there is a high dependence on equipment and the fact that certain classes are gud for killing other classes there is still a lot of skill...and speed(can anyone say starcraft micro?) involved...the wow pvp is on much more of a massive scale than gw...
gw has no monthly fee which is great for me....there isn't as much grinding to get to the same level as everyone else another plus for me....its not hard to get similar equip as other players which is again gud for me....pvp altho very different from wow is very interesting and strategic altho i still believe it doesn't have the same depth as wow...gw's pve side is more like a normal single player rpg with the option to have a couple friends connect to ur game and help...it actually reminds me a lot of diablo...im not too much a fan of this as i enjoyed walking around wow running into random ppl...actually felt like i was in a world....however the focus of gw is unlike other mmorpg games....imagine an fps where u get the chance to customize ur char over the campaign then u can take him into multiplayer matches...thats the way i think of gw...and altho i was dissapointed at first....getting more into the skills and understanding what is going on i realize gw is also a great game...
which is better is like comparing apples and oranges...just pick which type of game you wanna play...i already listed why im playing gw now instead of wow....but for all the gw ppl in here...i have to say that you really should try warsong gulch with a 60 char in wow...the combat is very strategic and a lot of fun....

wow i actually read over some of the previous posts and there is quite a bias against wow in this thread....i dunno wut the reasoning behind it is...mebe some of you just haven't tried it...but my housemates and i all bought the game and played it(6 of us)...it is an amazing game no doubt about it....altho i didn't have the patience to get to 60 its not that hard actually especially compared to eq...but even if u don't get to 60 the game is still great...quests are actually fun and have some meaning...combat is action packed and very strategic....altho some ppl may tell u otherwise the pvp is very well balanced...there are a couple things like shamans being a little overpowered and pallys getting shafted but giving pallys a snare and putting a longer cooldown on shaman shocks should fix it...blizzard is very well known for well balanced excellent multiplayer action(starcraft anyone? greatest rts ever made...very well balanced also...its true that terran is the strongest and toss weakest but that is because toss is the easiest to play and terran is the hardest)....i would still be playing wow if it wasn't for the 15 a month fee ...its not that i don't wanna spend the money but that i don't have much time to play and then its like im wasting that 15 a month....if u have a lot of free time and don't mind the 15 i think wow will be a better game if ur looking for a MMORPG....i truly believe that GW is not a mmorpg...if u are looking for diablo 3 with some great skill based pvp(small numbers tho) then gw is great...especially if u don't have much time to play and u just wanna go on and duke it out a bit

I have been playing WoW since the open beta. I enjoyed the game alot. It was a great game. You get very immersed into it as you're questing along on your FIRST character. As soon as I started making a second character, that's when it hit me.....boredom. Level 1-10 is pretty much go out and kill 10 of this and 6 of that and then come back to me for your xp and reward....Level 10-20 is the same as 1-10 except that the monsters change some. This keeps going on till you reach 60. That is what really drove me nuts. The repetitiveness of collecting/killing 10 of this and 6 of that. Granted, there were some nice quests in WoW but the storline really didn't go anywhere.
Yes, you do get immersed into the game and you feel like you are in it while you are running and you see others running around doing their quests. That was a cool aspect of the game but sometimes it would really tick you off when you fight your way to a boss and you are killing the last guy before the boss and some idiot runs right in and kills the boss, takes the loot and you have to sit there and wait for respawn.
Flying on the hippogryphs or taking the boat or tram (train) was cool for the first 10 times. After that, you just wish you could jump off that bird in mid flight and land where you had to go to do your quest instead of taking the pre-programed scenic tour and landing a 5-10 minute run away.
The graphics are a bit cartoonish but you can overlook that as there are some cities that look really nice and were really well done....ie: Stormwind, Ironforge.
Crafting in the game pretty much sucks as you can always buy better armor or weapons at the auction house instead of wasting countless hours trying to farm for materials and getting your skill up.
These are just some pet peeves I had about the game only after starting new characters. Your first character will always be the best one cause that's when you see the world for the first time and experience everything anew but as soon as you start rolling a second character, that's when it hits you. At least for me, that was the case.
Some can argue and say that you will get bored rolling a second character in GW and yes, they will make a valid point but the time sink will not be as great.
Also, your character in GW is unique unlike the cookie cutter characters in WoW...everyone always using the same skills.
This is just my $.02
Sorry for the rant.

..On a side note, no one has mentionned the immense lag in Ironforge, no matter how good your PC is.

Im adult, with bills from real life, with girl friend, work etc, and im lucky to pay a game like WoW. (i give up)

GW I think is for the person who sees gaming as just that. Gaming. WoW is for the one who wants to live elsewhere cause their life sux0rs or something... |
I start playing GW 3 days ago and so far i like it alot, cant say more coz im still newbie
But with WoW...well WoW its MMORPG and GW isnt, we cant compare both games.
WoW was the best mmorgp i haver played ...untill lvl 60, when you bang lvl 60 you farm over and over high lvl instances for gear to use in MC/Onyxia/Azuregos.
Ok, i have 2 lvl 60 (hunter and rogue both with 300/300 craft) and now? nothing, thats the problem, WoW end game sucks, you have nothing more to do. Yes, you can raid MC, but i work and raiding MC is like 4-6 hours, i dont have that time to play, only in weekends, i cant pay a game only for use in weekends, the WoW have problems with balance the chars, Shaman are god, like Pallie and rogue. The others class are nerfed. Example, you are Hunter and see one shaman, both lvl 60, the best tactic for hunter is ...runnnnnn.
PvP in WoW...worst PvP i ever see, zerging around, no tactics, nothing, with my hunter i just stay far from the batlle and hitting, nothing more. My first and last time in BG (battle grounds) i boost my HK, just need to hit one time and if he die..one more HK for me...and i dont do nothing , just one hit. This is PvP ? Not for me.
Gank..alot of 12 years players with no brains and too many time to play, ganked lvl 30s over and over again. right now, one lvl 60 can kill one lvl 49 and win HK..sad.
Maps are huge, but its too easy to travel, if GW have transport, WoW have Mount (normal or epic).
WoW end game sucks, PvP sucks, Chars Balance sucks (god chars). The sad is when you bang 60 you have nothing to do, only if you have 4-6h and have no work.
sorry for my bad english

It's all in how you play the character.

I just have to say that WoW being cartoonish totally turned me off.
I was actually considering on buying it, then i went on the site and noticed the cartoony look and instantly lost the desire to buy it. But that's just be though.

Are there any other half-way decent MMO's that don't charge a fee besides GW?

To answer that question, Neverwinter Nights held my attention for 2+ years between two very well done MMOish servers. Very good DM support and updated on a regular basis and its free. PM me if you want further info. Im just tired of NWN and want a change. I do wish that PvP would be allowed everywhere except the main towns.

The best part of GW is you can stop playing for 6 months and still be able to come back to it, with no cost at all. As for Wow, it's got depth and volume and interactive world but those content can also become boring after 9 months of nonstop playing, and then you're stuck with either paying for not playing, or quitting and losing your characters forever. I too get bored with GW now, but I'll stick to GW for the long run because I know my characters will stay alive for as long as ANET will.

I won't lie, I play GW because there is no fee. If the other games like WOW and E2 were free, I'd buy them in an instant. Call me cheap, but a couple hundred bucks a year is something I'd rather not do. GW is my first online RPG style game. I would love to try WOW and other games like it. I'm sure I'd really enjoy them.
That said, I have enjoyed GW a lot! I do not regret buying it -- at all!

I bought WoW a while ago... and well, it is a good game to be honest. There are couple of things which I don`t like about it.
1. In order to be successful in WoW, you have to seriously dedicate yourself to the game. You have to grind (very boring) for hours to level up. If you play about 1 h a day it takes loooong to become even nearly competetive. I have a job and a girlfriend so my gaming time is limited.
2. Almost all the characters in WoW are basically clones, what comes to the skills they use in battle.
3. Player skill has almost nothing to do with how good you are in WoW. Casual player like me is a loser all the time, because I don`t spend my time grinding for levels and items.
4. Monthly fee. I don`t want to pay big cash every year just to play 1 h a day.
Guild Wars is really a game to me, a casual player. I feel I am pretty good in GW even though I don`t spend all my free time playing. That really is a major plus-side in GW. Player skill is important here.
Guild Wars really is a great game.

This question keeps coming up on this forum..so easy put:
Read this forum and othes on GW for people's likes and dislikes.
Then go read WOW's forums for the same info.
Read about what people complain about, what they rave about, what they think should be added or removed and how has the company (if at all at that time) has responded to those suggestions.
I havent played WOW. So I cant offer a personal opinion, just repeats from what I have heard from others.
On GW:
1. No Monthly fee.
2. No Player Killing/Loot Stealing. Want to kill other players? You have PVP and are rewarded for it too instead of hated.
3. Realtively easy enough to get the best armor. 15k is optional and for those who seek to spend the money on better looking armor.
4. No "uber" or "Godly" weapons that own all. Weapons and skills for off each other and the attribute points you use.
5.Don"t like being a pyromancer or Sword warrior? Change at will. Not stuck with being one particular type of charchter. GW allows you to change you secondary prodession if you get bored with your original selection or just want to unlock all skills in different professions.
6. PVP and PVE are not entirely joined or seperated. You can play PVE and use that charachter in PVP mathces. PVP charchters can be created at will to meet the needs of your playing style. Once dedicated to a fighting style, faction points allow you to upgrade your charchter.

.:Warning, this is all my opinion, if you don't agree with it I really don't give a ****:.
Yes, I have played both games
If you don't want to read all of it, scroll down to the bottom and read the last paragraph
WoW and GW are two totally different games. One is more based on items, level and money (That being WoW) and the other is more based on skill (GW). I'm not going to totally bash WoW, because I have played it and it isn't a "bad" game. Just not my type.
Wow is definitely more slow paced than this game, and if you want a fast paced game get GW. I say that because for the most part, in WoW you will be soloing and fighting one mob at a time while in GW you will always be partying and will likely be facing more mob than one at a time. -GW
Flexibility and customization. GW is definitely more flexible, which is both a good and bad thing. Good because of the obvious reasons, but at the same time bad because it makes a game which already lacks individuality (Sorry guys, colors don't count ; ) ) even more monotone. In WoW, you have to give up a certain amount of gold, which is very painful to your pocket, especially if this is your fourth or third time switching. -GW
Instancing. Ahhhh... Instancing... This is yet again a double edged sword. Good - No fighting over monster drops, no griefing, and the solitude. To me, this is a big downfall in GW because I am a person that likes to socialize, and honestly, it isn't fun socializing with a party of 4-8 when at the very minimum one is a jerk. Of course, in some areas of WoW there is instancing, but for the most part you will be out in the middle of a (very large) world. -WoW
Map size. There isn't really much to say here except that WoW feels MUCH larger, and I would guess that it is. -WoW
PvP. Well this has its ups and downs for both games. WoW - Gankfest, but you always have to be on your toes and be prepared to be ambushed. The latter is fun at times, but not fun at the same time. Of course, ganking isn't fun either =P. GW has a PvP system that is more reliant on skill and not level. Both have a semi-similar system for rewarding PvP players. This is "Faction" in GW, and as you defeat players and win matches, you gain this. With a certain amount of faction, you can unlock items for your PvP only characters. In WoW, they have "Honor". With Honor you can unlock various things including "Mounts", or horses and similar animals that increase your speed while you ride them, and unique and high quality armor. -GW
PvE. WoW has more quests and more levels than in GW, and also has the option of "dungeons" or "instances" depending on which game you play. Once you are done with those quests and are level 60 you can try to get the best items and armor. -WoW
Graphics. Both have good graphics, but one has much less lag and that is GW. WoW has "Cartoonish" graphics, but they are still very good, just in a different way than GW's very realistic graphics. -Tie
Monthly fee. WoW has one, GW doesn't. End of story. - GW
Combat system. Both have great gameplay but very different ones. GW is more tactical in the sense that you can only have 8 skills at once, while in WoW you can have them all. They have a very different skill customizing system too. In WoW, you increase "talents" that for the most part only effect one skill. This of course has its exceptions, like the critical hit % increase that rogues get a chance to have. In GW, you increase attributes like "fire magic" or "air magic" for an elementalist that increase effectiveness for all skills that are under the pertaining category. It should also be noted that in GW you can have two classes.- GW
Overall gameplay. I'm not going to go in depth on this, but in GW you can only do PvP or PvE, while in WoW you can do the two former and level up in your "Professions", like leatherworking and tailoring. - WoW
Overall. Sorry but GW takes the cake for this one simply because of the monthly fee that WoW has. If money isn't an object for you, get WoW

If money isn't an object for you, get WoW

foolish ppl, how you going to compare GuildWars with World of warcraft on a GW or WOW forum? i still think WOW is a lot better than guildwars. i've played both. Guildwars's world is so fake but WoW is a living world. in WOW, i can jump right in to have some fun with or without team and you always have something to do unlike guildwars. guildwars is messed up. i often have to wait almost a hour just to find a good group for pvp or mission. everything about guildwars is just for the looks on your character. when u find a uber item or craft an uber equipment in guildwars, what u have in mind is "hell yeah, time to show off"( wth is this? MIss GuildWars? what is the fun of showing ppl your beautiful mask? under that mask is same as everyone else). when u find a uber item in Wow, first thing you want to do is woot some alliance or horde's butt. about pvp in guildwars, their idea is good but the works that they done are trash. in WoW, u r free from those dumbass teams, and free from "OMG! we need a monk". if u want some real pvp fun, go raid a town with a large group of people or ambush someone by hiding in the forest. those that say WoW dont require skills are newb. i have to use a lot more skills than guildwars when i was playing WoW. i will seriously trash this game when i get my destop fixed. i know some of these immatures will be saying " go back to your grind" but guess what? hidden grind in guildwars is worse. u used so much time like grinding to get a beautiful mask but under that mask is just same as all of us. the reason that most of the ppl who bought guildwars is because there is no monthly fee. face the facts. Guildwars is not even close enough to compare with the world leader mmorpg.
Edited: do your know why today's MMORPGs have more and more grind? Blizzard understands the real reason why and they use it. i'm so disappointed at AN....

I played WoW for 6 months and had a lot of fun. You had an overwhelming pride for the side you played for. If you played horde the horde players always helped you out. I never saw anyone asking for money to run them through an instance ( equivalent to a mission) simply because the money lower lvls could offer would do nothing for higher lvls. With GW the only pride lies with your guild. And when your guild rises in the ranks it only gets more heated. But i dont think i will ever experience the same pride in GW that i felt in WOW. The fee wasnt to bad i payed i think $11.99 for 6 months. depending on what plan you took the game would be more expensive or less expensive each month. the less expensive ones required a bigger commitment. I love GW because their is no fee. I am not required to play. I got this game 2 months ago and started my account. I was still playing WoW so i didnt actually play GW. About 3 weeks ago my account with WoW ended so i started playing GW. I hadnt played in over a month but that didnt affect a thing. i lost no money. I got addicted to GW since i had no other commitment to another game. The WoW game world is bigger but, that isnt saying the GW world is small. trying running from ascalon to the henge....prolly would take you 2 hours or more. The WoW world seems so much bigger because of the lack of teleporting. The griffon rides in WoW made the world seem huge because they took long pointless paths in order to get you to your destination. The amount of detail in WoW is much bigger and you will rarely run into someone who looks just like you but, if i had a dollar for everyone who used the same build as me i would be a very rich man. WoW is just a way more in depth game that is more centered around pve then pvp (pvp is still a blast in the game either way). If you want to play an overwhelming game that will totally take over your life and make ppl you know hate you for not hanging out with them(you wont regret it if they do) then play WoW. If you want to play a game that doesnt require much time and effort then play GW. I find the lvl of enjoyment for both games to be the same. But they are completely different in most aspects so i cant say one is better then the other. They can only be compared.

It's really really late, I'm really really tired, and this is probably really, really out of line, and if so the moderator can just delete this - but why is it that people who love WoW can't type English? It just hurts my eyes to read text without capitals and punctuation but with lots of SMS speak, and it hurts my brain trying to reconstruct the sentences.
For what little it's worth, my position can be summed up easily enough: GW is beautiful, elegant and has no monthly fee. WoW is ugly, brute force, and has a monthly fee.
I play GW.

Hi,
I think almost every poster has included this in their reply: After the initial price of the game, GW is free to play.
That is the bottom line with me as well. I wouldn't have given GW the time of day if it would have been using a montly pay scheme. Having said this I am extremely satisfied with this game. It is my first real foray into MMO gaming and I love it. Gotta be the best 50 bucks I spent on a game to date.
Concerning WoW, I have not played it (although I own WarCraftII, StarCraft and Diablo games) so I will not comment on gameplay issues. I most probably would like it as well and become hooked on it. I am not however, willing to shell out 15 bucks (or any money for that matter) a month for the 'right' to play a game I've already bought. This is not just concerning WoW but all of the other 'pay to play' games out there. I hope GW changes the Game Developer mentality of monthly charges. I have to say I was surprised to hear that WoW has Character deletion if there is a break in the monthly payments. Very shocking if true...and just another reason IMHO to never buy a game based on monthly payments.

When your subscription ends (either through cancellation or expiring), your World of Warcraft account and characters will remain saved on the server, so that you will be able to return at any time and pick up where you left off. |

I have played WoW for 4 months. I have a lvl 52 Paladin. I enjoyed the game. Here's why I quit for GW.
#1 In order to succeed and GET TO PvP in WoW a person HAS to grind until he is top level, or he will get smoked.
* In GW once you reach lvl 20 (which is what it takes to get you through the story portion of the game you will truly enjoy) EVERYONE is the same. The difference won't be in armor you got by grinding 300 hours or in that someone is 20 levels above you. It will be in skill. If you're skilled and you know how to play, you will win. Also GW allows you to recustumize your character an unlimited number of times and even change your secondary profession. In WoW you're stuck or you have to start all over.
#2 GRIND GRIND GRIND
* In GW griding is kept to a minimum. It takes very little time to get on your feet and have a great set of equipment and be the same level as everyone else so you can actually ENJOY the final part of the game, your goal and not your painful grinding which is required to get you there.
#3 LAG
* WoW server I was on was apparently in Netherlands and I got pretty bad lag pretty often. No lag in GW since everything except town zones are instanced.
# Not everything is instanced.
* True, dungeons in WoW are instanced, but most of the time, you will have to compete with other ppl just to kill a monster you need.
GW is truly instanced where the gameworld truly belongs to YOU and your party.
# Storyline
* I'm sorry, but I didn't find a story in WoW. Everything is based solely upon untied quests which are there simply to waste your time and make you grind in order to advance in lvl. GW actually has an interesting story which takes you through missions. And when you get to lvl 20, the story just begins as you continue the missions. Also ArenaNET will keep adding content.
# Server downtime
* WoW loves going down. Even when it's working like it should, it still goes down twice a week for maintanence at our expense.
# Everyone is on different servers
* I have friends playing on one server and I'm playing on another server, thus we can never meet.
In GW, EVERYONE is on the same server. So all your friends are there.
# 15$ a month
* I don't feel like paying 15$ a month for a game I've already paid $50.
GW is free.
Now what WoW does have over GW is a mail system and an auction house. Those are absolutely necessary in GW. Mail for such a community intense game is a must. And auction house will get rid of all the spam that is in GW right now.
The good news is, if you go to GW website, there is a fansite interview in which it is stated that ArenaNET is DEFINETLY going to add an auction house in the near future. I believe any blemishes that GW has, will be corrected in the future. Unlike WoW, GWs updates are instant and there is never any server downtime.

I just have to say a couple things. The whole reason why players get into these level grinds is because the whole reason they want to level is to get that new skill as a reward to leveling. Like in CoH: "I can't wait to get to level 14 so I can fly". It is this drive that people level grind, but at the same time, it is this idea that MMO can become boring. Almost all MMO's have the design that the higher level you are, the longer it takes the level up. This then means that you will go a longer time before getting that new skill. ----This is the sole reason why I never finished or got to the high level content in any MMO!!!----
...Except for GW!!! I think it is the most understated feature of this game. There is NO level grind. The mere fact that getting a new skill does not depend on whether you just leveled up or not is so amazing and I can't believe it isn't used more often. It is because of this that GW does not get boring.
I will say this. If you love MMO's because of the rewards you get after leveling, then buy GW!! At level 20 in GW, you will have far more skills and powers for your character than you will have for any character higher level in WoW. In GW I kept counting my skills as I leveled, and I had like 40 some spells at level 8, now I have 3 level 20 RPG character and each one has over 80 each. It's crazy.
Point number two that goes to GW over WoW is the strategy involved. Not only will you have more abilities for your character, but those abilities will have so many uses it is unbelievable. One skill you may have at your disosal can come in handy in about 10 different ways due to the strategy involved with the game. If you like combat that isn't: "1) Tape your left mouse button down, 2) Walk Away, 3) Come back in 10 minutes to collect loot." If you like combat that takes skill, then go with GW.
That's my two cents.

Well, Ive been playing WoW for 5 months now, and frankly Im bored stiff of it, once you hit the magic lvl 60, the whole game stops, there is nothing to do, there is no end game, all the end game consists of is farming amazing gear from instances.
WOW! spending 2-4 hours in an instance trying to get 1 piece of good gear, sounds a bit sad to me, I ordered Guild Wars today, and it should be here by tomorrow, Im going to play it slowely and enjoy the game, and get a feel for it, all the while keeping my WoW account frozen, because it still is an amazing game.
As for the graphics issue, I dunno if I will have a problem, I have the new SLI Geforce graphics, which for those of you who dont know, its x2 256mb 6800GT graphics cards bridged together, and its amazing, I also have 1G of RAM, I hope its enough, as i cant be bothered to read the requirments, but i must say, looking and the screenshots on this forum, HOLY SHIT! the graphics are almost life like.
And I do love the look of those females, in nice armor :P, just a question, they all look nice and thin, with perfect skin and a nice chest (cough, boobies :P hehe, cough) can you make a really fat female character with like loads of warts and stuff? andyway << man I wrote a lot, cya

You can't alter the body shape of your character beyond its profession, sex, and height. I guess it helps to make the game run more smoothly with only 12 distinct body types.
