Just wondering but, What games did you play prior to guildwars or do you still play? And what aspect do you like more in the game, PvE, or PvP? Just wondering because I see a lot of people on even non guildwars related forums who play games like CS, Starcraft, and Guildwars. I'm just wondering what the PvE people play, or played before getting guildwars.

I played very competitively in Starcraft and plenty of Tribes 2 and CS as well.

PvP of course; it doesn't take very much to realize the pve is horribly limiting for anyone playing more than casually.

in battlefield 2, the more you play, you unlock guns and medals.

I love the reward system in it

My previous poisons:

Diablo 1 + 2, Doom2, Quake1-3, Duke-Nukem, Starcraft, Neverwinter Nights, Everquest, UT -> UT2004

Just got back from a 30-man BF2 LAN party... wow, that was fun.

Most recently, I played Natural Selection, World of Warcraft, Super Monkey Ball, Metroid Prime, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Quake 3. Before that, there are too many games to name. I enjoy both PvE and PvP.

I think you'd be better off if, instead of asking if people have played SC or CS, ask if they haven't played it.

Ultima Online for five years, the last two on a non-consensual pvp server (Siege). Also played Shadowbane, DAOC, EVE, SWG.

I'm here for the pvp and none of the above titles have the balanced team based pvp I was looking for that GW has. Especially UO. I'm glad to be here and look forward to facing the best of you in GvG and HoH.

If you didn't get it by now, I like the pvp aspect of GW.

FFXI before this, had to quit due to money issues hurray hurray.

Honestly, in terms of keeping me busy, GW pales in comparison. But it's a good Nicorette to the FFXI addiction.

my run of games is a long and varied list For some time I played StarCraft, although I never did play ladder.. just played with the SC Strat forum regs (we had our own channel we went to, held our own tournies & such.. was great fun), also played Diablo 1 heaps (played online).. not D2 as I couldn't play it online.. and thought it sucked anyways As for offline games I played such games as Fallout 1&2, Baldur's Gate 1&2, PlaneScape:Torment as well as Half-Life 1&2, Doom 1&2&3, NWN.. what else.. The Longest Journey.. oh and a bit of UO.. hmm lots of games really.. LOL I don't know if should try listing out the games i've played over the past few years... would be a list like 50+ long.. *laughs* I just get bored of playing a game and go play something else. LOL So far GW has done an amazing job of keeping my attention, albiet on and off.. but thats just me. heh

Oh, and I am playing GW mainly for the PvE. haven't really gotten into the PvP section. Altho I love it when I whoop the other side when taking a new character past the starting section! whee! gooo faction points I don't need!

Oh wait, you meant what was I playing just prior to GW? Errr I can't remember :P *checks games installed* Hmm, Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Ultima 7 parts 1 & 2.. and I was about to install IceWind Dale 1 & 2.. was also playing morrowind on and off.. but I never play that for much b4 stopping and playing something else.. LOL But I wasn't playing any online games, not even SC.. haven't played SC for a long time now.. heh.

Wow, natural selection. Now theres a mod i havent played in a long time. They source it yet? And as for tactics, advanced or original?

As for aspects in a game i like both pvp and pve. Pvp for the testing of ones tactics and knowledge when given a situation. Going against human minds is more fun sometimes than a computer's mind. And pve for the relaxed fun it can generate. Especially when you get that rare " 'silly' but damn good players" group. =P

All of the Half-Life/Half-Life 2 modifications EXCEPT the counter-strike games. I loathe Counter-Strike for the soul purpose that it doesn't allow for the fun that games like Day of Defeat do. When I play I don't like to be all "win win win be the best all the time" I like to have fun playing, go kamikaze, do crazy shit like that and just have some fun...without having to wait for 10 minutes to spawn just so I can maybe have a chance to do it once more. If I want to run head first into heavy incoming fire with a grenade in hand to blow up the enemy force like a madman I want to be able to choose to do so without having to worry about how long it'll be 'till I spawn again. Day of Defeat has been my primary game for many years now, and I still play it frequently. Lots of hardcore FPS fun in that game, boy I've had some of the best nights of my life in that game...

Other than those, HL2 Deathmatch quite a bit, Battlefield 2 is getting increasingly appealing being so burnt out on this game, er...Quake 2 (love the game) and a lot of online Quake 3 Arena...you get the idea.

I problably like PvE better in the game, but with all the nerfs it's basically over once you beat it a few times. PvP in this game is WAY to small-scale to get immersive, just fighting in the same few areas against he same few builds over and over...in a measly 8vs8 GvG, or a slightly bigger cluster in the HoH. I'm much more into large battles of like 30 on 30 or something that REALLY gets interesting. PvP right now is too...boring, but as the way PvE has ended and...is basically pointless once you beat it, I've no choice but to do a little PvP. So I guess I like both a little bit, but I'm burnt out like no other right now...

Before GW, I was mostly an FPS person. Doom 2 (yep, two, and a little one as well), Counter-Strike, Natural-Selection, Sven Co-op, Team Fortress, Planetside, UT2004, oh man, I spent so much time playing and modding that one. The only RPG I had played was Fallout and Fallout 2, which were great, but I wasn't a fan of the fantasy aspect of most RPGs. Then a friend talked me into getting the WoW beta, and I was hooked on RPGs from then on. I played WoW for a good 6 months or so before I delved into GW as a result of many of my friends from the NetBattletech game league (using Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, heavily modded, which was another one of my favorite games) starting a Guild. After playing GW for a little while, I quit WoW since the FPS gamer inside me wanted more PvP action and challenges than WoW could deliver. So now here I am, having fun in GW's PvE trying to UAS, and GvGing every night I can

Played Tribes 1, then Tribes 2, and diddled a little bit when Planetside came out.

Not to forget Morrowind and Baldur's Gate 2, with a little Planescape: Torment thrown in for good measure.

Heh, I was actually hoping for some pve fanboys to post, I'm really curious as to what they played prior to guildwars, and what they still play. It's all obvious you come from games that are skill over time played, Which is exactly what guildwars was advertised as. But there's no doubt that, that's a complete lie.

Diablo I and II (why I hate PvP), Might and Magic series (including Heroes of), Warcraft II (not III, didn't like it at all), every Final Fantasy including Tactics (except VIII, X, X-2, and XI), Neverwinter Nights.

RPGaholic.

Wow. Okay.. where to start.

I think it all started with Starcraft. Then Tribes 1.

Picked up Warcraft 3, Tribes 2, Tribes Vengeance, Battlefield: Vietnam (the horror), Operation Flashpoint... Neverwinter Nights, Call of Duty, America's Army, Lock On, IL-2, CFS3, Enemy Engaged series, Half life 2, Hidden and Dangerous 2, Flight Simulator 2002 ... Diablo 2, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 .. Silent Hunter III, C&C Generals ..

Those are the games I play(ed) regularly. I haven't even listed all of them and none of the 'unknown' games I've played (for example: Wargames, Anno 1602 ..).

Yes, I've wasted quite a bit of money on games ..
