Lore Question

I have been to the main site and read all the lore stories. They were really cool and I enjoyed them a lot.

Now for the question. I realized after the beta week-end (it was my first) that pre-ascalon really *is* just the beginning of the story. Once you're out, you're in the big bad world fighting the Charr that destroyed Ascalon city.

So umm...why are we trying to kill each other in the arena's? Shouldn't we be banding together to beat the snot out of these guys? Can someone please tell me what the lore surrounding the arena is in regards to the war with the Charr?

Well, I don't go by proper story lines, heres my concept. I think that its like a big tournament, they don't want weaker ones to die therefore they establish guilds, the best guild would be the chosen one to fight the Charr. This way the weaker players/guilds won't have to be eliminated. Thats the way I interpret it, however I would love to know the official responce from Arena net regarding this question.
