help with vent or ts server
mylilpony
i have downloaded the server mods for both TEAMSPEAK and VENTRILO, and i was wondering if anyone knew how to set it up. i've gotten it to work but only for me, and no one else. is it b/c im on a router?
theclam
Yeah. You need to find how to setup port forwarding. Go to your router manufacturer's website and find the page on port forwarding for your specific model of router.

I've been having trouble with TS and port forwarding, Vent gives a default port but what is TS port(s). I heard it large range and a bit random. I'm not going to put my pc in the dmz just for TS.
theclam
I think TS is 8767 as a default.

Oh Thank You
I've been looking on the web and TS web site not user friendly and google doing team speak port # has not been that fruitfull.

Ok please dont laugh becaue ima nub when it comes to technical issues...im havin trouble with my ts server also. Ill run through exactly what I did and what problems i am having:
I downloaded the ts server client and installed it. When ran, the server client opens one of them little icons in the bottom right corner of screen by the clock (im usin windows). I can right click the ts server icon and 3 options appear...administration (no clue wat most of the admin options do lol), Your IP's, and exit (i know wat that does!). For IP's, im a bit confused. There are 2...one has an icon of a computer, one has an icon of earth, and there is an "update IPs" option. 1st problem is which of these IP's do i use and tell people so they can log on?
Secondly, im currently using 1st IP (computer icon) and get in fine, but others cannot get in, just like 1st poster in this thread. However, in response to his/her post, you said something about a router...lol i have no idea what a router is. Sounds complicated. I looked under my device manager hardware list and nothing about a router appeared. So i guess if someone could pls explain to me what a router is, how to "enable" it, and what affects it will have on my computer otherwise (security issues, laggy game, etc. )
Thanks a billion for dealing with an uber noob's questions.

OK. The computer IP is the one assigned to the computer itself. The IP with the global is your public IP (The one you should give others). A router is a external device which some people use to share their internet connection between multiple computers in their home. A router also acts as a firewall. If your internet is through the cable company, you would run the cable from your cable modem to the router, then from the router to your computer. By default, routers block all incoming traffic. You would have to configure your router to allow incoming connections so others could join your TS/Vent server.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Hmm well i still cant get it working
I am on a D-Link router so i went to their website and found out how to enable ports.
Ok first of all, I log into ts on my computer ip (which works) and other ppl log in on the global ip right? (doesnt work yet). So i enabled the port 8767 on my router for use by anyone because i believe that is teh default ts port. However, still no one can log onto my ts and its a bit frustrating.
Also, when i logged into ts i made sure to use the port i enabled and told ppl to use that one as well...

there's where i go whenever I have some new game or something I need to port forward. It has a lot of different routers and simple instructions, as well as a lot of ports for a lot of different things.

I have a Dlink as well. I am at work now but I think I remember how to configure the port...
