How many people are playing Guild Wars?
Thymez
Is there any chance to see how many people that play Guild Wars? If not, ArenaNet should make a "Realm" button on thier beautiful homepage. It would be very cool to see how many that is really playing! And I think that might encourage people to play.

Actually, this can be solved quite easily. Just take half of the players from WoW, DAOC, Everquest, City of Heroes, FF XI Online, misc MMORPGs and add them up. Now divide that number by, oh say 100, then do a cube root of that number. Lastly subtract 50 from that number you have right now, and you should come of with the answer of, a SH T load of people playing Guild Wars when it releases on the 28th of this month.

That is crap for an MMO FYI. If you aint got atleast 200k your community is going to suck

Ok thanks for taking things literally.

Blah, then remove the cube square from my joking answer then.

I think the only thing that really needs to be said is that GW will have just as many, probably even more, people playing it that all the other main MMORPG's out there like WoW and EQ.

Not the billions, no games has subscribers in the billions. EQ is still the leader with 5 million people (Or around there). I believe WOW is in second place. Ill place Guild Wars at 1-3 million.

Just from the beta and seeing the awesome graphics and sweet content a lot will.
Now through in the fact that it's a free server and you got yoursel a butt load more . I think this can be a very special game

Someone did not read my first post, because it would be in the near billions if you added up all the players from every MMORPG. In addition, when I say near billion I am not talking about 999 million players. Any ways it really does not matter since I was only joking around.

Just as much? Possibly. More? No. Honestly, the P2P fee means little to adults, which is a large majority of the players. Only kiddies care about the 2 quarters a day. |
Heh so these "adults" would rather P2P than play a game that is free, and better than any other game out there ATM. Dosent seem a to mature way to think..................
Im out on my own and P2P does mean something to me, it means im spending money that i realy dont need to.
WolfpackEE
We can find out exactly how many are playing. Everyone get in a line..good...now count off:
One
One

what are you kidding? there are adults out there (like me) who think that those who would consider a p2p game as people who flunked math, or at least economics.
edit: also, given how one friend of mine spent over 5 hours trying to d/l the latest WoW patch and actually had to reinstall the entire game because of it, i think we'll have lots of WoW converts soon.
Manderlock
if you really want to be serrious then.....
EQ2 and WoW already had a very large fan base, that is why the have the most subcribers.
I feel that GW will grow very large, but we must give it time to build its fan base.

Auh
I doubt GW will have as large a playerbase as EQ or WoW, Just because it hasn't been advertised as much. It hasn't been released yet, So it's numbers will still be good for a release, but not as good as WoW or something like that because that has been out for awhile. I'm guessing GW will have a fairly large playerbase in a matter of weeks, though.
Edit: 3!!
Edit: 3!!
Lifire
Not advertised much? Damn I remember the hype when I was still playin DAOC like a year ago, most everyone there was talking about converting once it came out lol.

i honestly havent seen one advertisement for thegame in all the pc mag's or vid game mags that i subscribe to, the only reason i found out about this game was from word of mouth and a crazed gamestop employee who wouldnt shut up about it...now i can see why
*edit* heres a quick way to see how many people are gonna be in this game at full release, go to every single fansite and add up all the registered members of each fansite, this site alone has almost 3,000 people, then add about 200,000 who dont bother posting anything and just read all those boards as guests, thean add another 100,000 or so people that will prolly just buy the game at full release, then add another 50,000 who will hear about it from a friend andthen go out and purchase it, ect ect ect
Davion
Hmm well lets see then,.... 500,000 for last year's premere event, another 400,000 every beta weekend there after (minus of course the die-hards who always join EVERY beta..say 150,000)... Even without doing any REAL math..you're looking at easily over 1 million waiting for release. Either way, a whole lot of other online games are going to feel the GW "pinch". And most of it by word of mouth advertising.
Lifire
It would be insane if they did advertise on television or magazines.

You can see the nubers here, if you don't believe me.

San Andreas had 15 million pre-orders alone. But even that game didn't have billions.

thats makes me "4"
thats makes me "4"

yes it would be nice to know how many people are currently logged in when you play, but then isn't that the kind egotistical mould of orpg that gw is trying to break?

That still does nothing to disprove my point, Lineage has had time to let its fan base grow.
So what where you trying to prove by above statement?

actually u got it all upside down. its the kiddies that dont care about p2p as they have parents that carry the credit card and GW will gather all those adults that have work and dont have that much time on theyre hands.

When you have the money to spare, it's still a lot easier to justify spending it on something once than taking on yet another monthly bill.

I learned of this game while playing Diablo 2 (and being so damn borred its not even funny). We will being seeing much more coverege in the gaming mags come release, simply because the game will be much to big to ignore.

one of the main reasons i chose guild wars over wow is because i, an adult, dont want to pay monthly fees :P after all, not only does that take away food/bill/rent money, but it also makes me feel i have to keep playing because 'oh i already paid for this month, and if i don't pay for it i'll lose my account' whereas if i wanna give up on gw for a couple months i dont have to worry i'll have them wiped if i dont keep up the payments.
if i was a kid i'd probably be badgering my parents to pay for WoW lol.
I'd guess that guild wars won't start out as big as WoW or everquest, but give it a few years and more and more people will join (attracted by no fees) plus because the chapters will be like everquest 2: i.e. they'll attract new people because they're additions to an already known game; one of the things that would attract people to everquest 2 is the fact that everquest is already an established and successful game.
