I have a ranger in PvE. What would be the best secondary profession so that i am most successful in PvE? I don't intend to use this character in PvP.

if he wants to focus on healing, he can roll a Mo/*

Don't try to force someone to become /Mo because you think all /Mos do is heal, OKAY?

R/E are good in PvM get barrage and firestorm to do a lot fo AoE damage and get like phoenix for the up close guys.
get these attribs
11 marks sup rune+ hat
10 fire
11 expertise

just spam barrage and use firestorm its a kick Arse build.
