When do you get to choose a secondary profession?

And Also remember that a Wa/Mnk could be completely different from another Wa/Mnk and that a Mnk/Wa can be completely different than another Mnk/Wa and a lot of others. If you have 2 professions you have 150 skills to choose from (when you get that much) and you mix and match and strategize to bring only 8 with you to combat. Just imagine Magic the gathering and building a deck.

edit to above poster:
Very early on like level 2 heck... even level 1 you can grab a profession through a quick quest.

Thanks for the help people. Though i really think a second class should be achived when you reach level 10. that way the skills you want for each class are balanced.

skills are balanced from the start now

the elementalist/monk i started this weekend had 4 -5 skills of both professions by level 5 and most by level 4

pick what you want to use from each

edit

if you waited the second skill would be behind

Well if you really wanted to wait to level 10 to use the second class thats fine, but the second class is only for attributes and skills. You don't even need a second class, but I chose Mesmer/Warrior, but since I don't have the skills I want I play a pure mesmer. Just test out the game so you understand what I mean, because the way the attributes/skills work in this game it is not like other mmorpgs. You cannot screw up your build and have to restart like the rest of mmmorpgs

ok, you do have a point. I think i'm gonna make my second class a mesmer. i read that mesmer's skills really help an elementalist.

It all depends what you really want from the mesmer skills. All the other professions will really help the elementalist depending on what you want, but if you are talking about energy issues, yes the mesmer skills can help with energy and the likes for instant energy tap and what not.

Yeah, the whole energy thing is exactly what i want. It will help me to an almost infinite amount of moves, or so says my little booklit

mesmers do take a bit of skill and practice to use effectively

you wont just go out and be uber king kong because somebody will make you fall off that tower

lol, what do you mean. how much skill could it possibly take to steal energy?

when somebody is breaking your steal perhaps?

maybe backfire for a bit of unexpected damage to you?

little interrupts

etc

it is not as easy as you think

they have counters to balance things out

you will love it or hate it

The skill involved in PvP is a lot. hehe Thats because everyone is balanced and being quicker and smarter than the other guy is essential. Not a lot of skill involved in stealing energy, but depending on the situation like if they got backfire on you or you do it on the wrong characters and so on.

alright then. I'm still a noob at GW. I only played the last BWE for an hour and fifteen minutes. In your opinion, what would you like the best for your secondary class if you had an elelmentalist?

I was reading a different forum and saw that the lvl cap is only 20??? If it's only 20, it seems that there isnt much playing time into this game. will they raise the cap soon if it is? i saw people saying they got to 14-16 on the BWE which is 2 days, and if the cap is at 20, i dont see much of a future. also, there is no more BWE right?

monk

i am an elementalist/monk

also a ranger/monk

edit on the level 20

there are 25 missions (non pvp) to start
there are 60-70 explorable areas (non pvp, not small) to start with additional content to be added by streaming in

fron GW

Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. ,We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless.

Is there a paticular reasonhy you chose the monk as a secondary class? What advantages are there? And what exactly would the benefits be if i were to become a elementalist/mesmer?

You know what I'm going to put that for my uh siggy thingy ^_^

But yes once you understand the core concept of Guildwars then the whole "Tedium MMORPG mentallity" will be erased from your memory and you'll understand why leveling shouldn't be why a game is fun, but rather the skill from it.

While looking at the mesmer skill line what kind of advantages do you want from it? From Domination, inspiration, to illusion. Or you could be a Fastcasting Pyromancer by going Mesmer/Elementalist and take advantage of the elite skill in fast casting and quickly blast away while recharging quick. Although energy management is a bit rough since most the elementalist skills require such high energy, but Most Elementalist/Mesmer only use one skill from the mesmer line, which is either energy tap or the elite version of it.

There are six classes.

Ranger
Warrior
Mesmer
Monk
Elementalist
Necromancer

you choose 1 as a primary and 1 as a secondary. for instance, my combination is

Ranger/Mesmer.

What's the difference between Ranger/Mesmer and Mesmer/Ranger? several things. Several big things.

1) You look like your primary class
2) You can only wear armour from your primary clas
3) You can only use runes from your primary class
4) You only get your primary class's primary attribute.
5) (you do not get your secondary class's primary attribute.

now, you can still use ALL the skills of BOTH classes. however, if you wished to use a skill tied to the primary attribute of your secondary class, well... it would suck cause you can pump that attribute through any means.

Ok, I have decided. I'm going to be an elementalist/mesmer. I love the sound of stealing other's energy and stopping enemies' attacks and such.

E/Me

I went ele/ranger in the last bwe..

I through a couple of points in beastcraft and had a pet following me around and acting as a perma dot on anything I was attacking...and it would take aggro from time to time as well

I am thinking about ele/mes though, the castable dots and energy tap sound pretty nice.

I would prolley go mes/ele or mes/nec but I am pretty addicted to the thought of the energy store primary skill on the elementalist...
