We would all like better drops but that is not the subject here on this occasion.
Lets think of some interesting things that would be nice to see....
1) Salvage kits/identification kits. We all use them and i think they would make a nice addition to the loot tables.
2) Pieces of armour (perhaps similar or better than collectors armour). The armour should be non-customised so you could sell it. It should also be salvageable.
3) Unidentified weapon upgrades. Bowstrings, pommels etc.
4) Skill points. OK, this may or may not be agreeable but wouldn't it be nice to get a rare token of some sort which you could take to an NPC and trade it for a skill point?
Imagine the trade in such items!! WOW, that would be cool.
5) Maps. You find maps which you could either double click to unlock and it removes the map fog in a particular zone, or you could sell them to people who need to reveal the specific areas.
For example,
Perhaps a low level area of grawl might drop maps of witmans folly, medium level players may be interested in that map and the junior player may make a substantial amount of gold from it.
You could be in the last mission and find a map pockmark flats which you could use on your next character or sell to a junior at a cheap price.
I'm not sure if Anet could implement this, i don't know how the mapping feature works on a technical level but at least it's an idea to work with.
Takes the fun out of exploring? Maybe for some but it wouldn't be like you would be forced to use it.
6) More monster specific items like skin, hair, clothing (salvage items).
It would be nice to have a better range than the usual blobs and armours. More variety of materials coming from these items would be good too.
You pick something up now and you know immediately what it can yield...that's sort of boring after a while.
I shouldn't be getting a bigger variety of items from salvaging a weapon...c'mon!
7) Slightly off my own topic... why don't wild animals drop small items? A bolt of cloth or a scrap of hide wouldn't hurt...would it?

A feather from a moa bird, you know it makes sense.
8) Salvageable token items. Wouldn't it be great to have the trophy head of a jade which could salvage 20 steel ingots?
How about the fleshy skin of a bog skale which could yield a vial of dye or two within it's pulpy mass?
Come on people, get thinking of small things which one guy at arenanet could do while chomping on his sandwhich.
These small things often get implemented just because they got mentioned on the forums and received support...don't you think?
