New drops ideas
Tactical-Dillusions
What would we like to see dropping from monsters that we kill?
We would all like better drops but that is not the subject here on this occasion.
Lets think of some interesting things that would be nice to see....
1) Salvage kits/identification kits. We all use them and i think they would make a nice addition to the loot tables.
2) Pieces of armour (perhaps similar or better than collectors armour). The armour should be non-customised so you could sell it. It should also be salvageable.
3) Unidentified weapon upgrades. Bowstrings, pommels etc.
4) Skill points. OK, this may or may not be agreeable but wouldn't it be nice to get a rare token of some sort which you could take to an NPC and trade it for a skill point?
Imagine the trade in such items!! WOW, that would be cool.
5) Maps. You find maps which you could either double click to unlock and it removes the map fog in a particular zone, or you could sell them to people who need to reveal the specific areas.
For example,
Perhaps a low level area of grawl might drop maps of witmans folly, medium level players may be interested in that map and the junior player may make a substantial amount of gold from it.
You could be in the last mission and find a map pockmark flats which you could use on your next character or sell to a junior at a cheap price.
I'm not sure if Anet could implement this, i don't know how the mapping feature works on a technical level but at least it's an idea to work with.
Takes the fun out of exploring? Maybe for some but it wouldn't be like you would be forced to use it.
6) More monster specific items like skin, hair, clothing (salvage items).
It would be nice to have a better range than the usual blobs and armours. More variety of materials coming from these items would be good too.
You pick something up now and you know immediately what it can yield...that's sort of boring after a while.
I shouldn't be getting a bigger variety of items from salvaging a weapon...c'mon!
7) Slightly off my own topic... why don't wild animals drop small items? A bolt of cloth or a scrap of hide wouldn't hurt...would it?
A feather from a moa bird, you know it makes sense.
8) Salvageable token items. Wouldn't it be great to have the trophy head of a jade which could salvage 20 steel ingots?
How about the fleshy skin of a bog skale which could yield a vial of dye or two within it's pulpy mass?
Come on people, get thinking of small things which one guy at arenanet could do while chomping on his sandwhich.
These small things often get implemented just because they got mentioned on the forums and received support...don't you think?

Aniewiel
Wow! Those are simply wonderful!
1. I was thinking of the salvage/ID kits: Make them either single-use or "used" in that only 12/25 uses would be left.
2. LOVE the armor drops. The idea that they could be like the collector items is good too, as is making them 'sellable'. I can see, though, that this would become a bot's dream: Grind away for days collecting armors to sell on EBay.
3. I love the idea of the weapon upgrades as well.
Why not make ALL salvageable items have a % chance of getting a bottle of dye? After all, if you're salvaging say, Tengu Wild armor, that armor is reddish with silvery trim. Make it logical to what it is that you're salvaging.

Yes Aniewiel, good idea about the dyes.
Lots of people in UW would be happy to find the occasional black dye in new salvage materials from bladed aataxe.

The undead Mesmer
hmmm the map thing is great and i think i have a idea of my own whell here goes nothing
let some mobs like mergoyles drop special talismans that give you some extra power for a short ammount of time (only usable in pve for the balance) like health and energy. good idea or not?

Sounds good mesmer. It would be a little like scrolls.
I would imagine the prices for these to be very high if they were a "click to activate" item but a valuable commodity for a monk to have in the team.
Perhaps the time limit on these items would be the way to go...activated upon pickup.
Perhaps even, it could be automatically applied to the whole team as soon as you kill X monster, like a boon in the last missions or the boon you get personally from dwayna when you have favor (that little statue thingy that you pay a tribute to near nebo which gives you a health regen for a period or a morale boost)
They could be called "BOON DROPS" or something.
Not seen that statue of dwayna? Go check it out. Its great, never noticed it until last week.
Not sure if all those statues do the same when you have favor.

It'd be interesting if these drops weren't so rare because then using them would just be a fun thing to do while you're out questing. People wouldn't save them for use in special occasions or for selling to others because they wouldn't be worth all that much.
In other words, I think it'd be nice if it was just something fun that even a low level could make use of, not a gold sink. You know, just something to add more variety to questing. Kinda like the gods' statues, except portable.

If only i knew that before. I wouldn't have been killed by cobble poundstone.
Ideas for new scrolls which could drop.
Scroll of dwayna,
"Entire party (including allies) gain +2 energy regeneration for 5 minutes"
Scroll of balthazar,
"Entire party (including allies) relfect 5% of the damage back to it's source for 5 minutes"
Scroll of lyssa,
"Death penalty of all party members is reduced by 50%"

I love the map idea. There are areas that I didn't check every nook so the map isn't completely revealed. But I can't remember in some areas if I completely explored it or not so I can't recall just how much of the map I still have to reveal.
I think it would be great if the maps also contained information regarding the areas. Just simple stuff, like the location of a collector and such, what enemies you fight in the area. The map just feels like it needs more to it.

How about treasure map. The map tells the location of a specific chest (random chest in the area), and spawns a suitable reward/better drop there. No quest beacon to the chest, only the treasure map knows.
(i have suggested this in other forums, and the idea is from the classic game pirates)
"owned/custimised" items belonging to either a NPC . Find the owner within a timeframe for suitable reward/better drop. (what the bandits are carring stuff that belongs to robbed people?)

Pandora's box
I would like bosses to drop special items, uniques to be precisely. No uber items but specialities that have 1 big advantage and 1 big disadvantage. Like items raising 1 attribute at the cost of health or energy.
I also would like to introduce scrolls that temporary raise things. 10 more lifepoints for the next 50 seconds, +2 melee dmg for the next 6 attacks, things like that. And scrolls that allow you to use a 'foreing' skill once. Like a Wa/Ne who finds a scroll of healing breeze... Stackable

What I'd like to see, though it probably isn't viable from a balance perspective, is every monster dropping all it's stuff. So if you kill a grawl longspear for instance, it would drop a rawl necklace, grawl longspear gear, and a long spear. Maybe you could also salvage the corpse to get grawl flesh or something.
This would mean that every time you killed a bear you could salvage a bear pelt from it's corpse, but they would never drop weapons, because bears don't carry weapons. You might be able to take it's teeth and claws though...

the maps would say thier difficulty the area they are in and show a picture of were they are then you go there and have to dig up the chest then fight the creatures and the chest appears
Edit: the hardest ones could take you to places in the underworld/fissure that noone ever really goes to and drop some of the best items possible of course if you fail to get to them they dont get used
if multiple maps exist in the group it would have only one take effect so you cant just get like 50 maps and farm em all on the same run

i think its safe to say i agree with everything you suggested...

1. I understand where this is coming from, but it's just not practical.
2. Agreed.
3. Agreed.
4. I can see the benefits and disadvantages of this. I could elaborate if need be.
5. This simply defeats the purpose of exploring areas. There are online maps as well. Why would I pay for something when I can simply look it up online?
6. This game needs more variety... desperately. Seriously. All the items in the game are so jaded, etc. One thing that attracted me to such RPGs as D2, etc., was the variety in weapons, armor, etc.
7. Why would a wild animal be carrying clothes, etc.?
8. yep yep yep
