How to turn off "I am using..." text in-game?
Tresa
The text in question is the auto-communication which shows onscreen when using a skill: "I am using such-and-such skill on so-and-so foe!" It's horrible, evil stuff (for a caster, anyway), as it covers the screen and floods the chat area, making the game nigh unplayable.
I'm not sure how this text became enabled (as it wasn't displaying until today) but there has to be some way to disable it. I tried searching the forums, Google, and the GW support section, to no avail. Help?
Thanks muchly,
Tresa

do you mean all of YOUR spells are going it? or someone else in the party?
basically, if you hold CTRL while you cast your spell, it will display that message. if someone else is doing it, im not sure there is a way to disable that text being displayed.... if its your spells doing it, then just stop holding CTRL :P

Disable the group chat, and the messages will be gone.

No, disabling the chat (in its entirety) did not work. Nor am I holding CTRL. Tried it from one of my other computers, and still the same thing.
If it were only affecting the chat area, it would be slightly less bothersome. However, it is blocking up my screen with the speech bubbles. (So, I can't always see what's going on in a battle.) Very annoying.
Also; yes, I'm talking about my own character and its spells.

How do you attack/use spells?
Weezer_Blue
very strange. turning it off for yourself would be good, but turning it off for the entire party is a big mistake. without focus firing, which is always a result of a called target "I am attacking ___",team play is hopeless. (I liked it better when it said "press T to select my target"). But to do it every time you cast is extremely peculiar.

funny, ive found GW to be more on the primitive side compared to other MMOs.
when i first started playing i was lost without the ability to /ta deadmansnamehere. assisting is easy, and most mmos have some ability to either do it directly, or quickbind it. they also generally have the ability to /target whoyouwanttokill, and guild wars doesnt. i still find that to be a very irritating game design choice.

Are you talking about target calling and attacking a called target? If so, GW most certainly has this ability. If not, then just ignore this post.

What are you talking about?? Can't kill who you want, just click who you want to attack, or press the button for nearest target then scroll through the targets with the '[' and ']' keys. But I don't think I understood you completely.
And to the OP, is your Ctrl button maybe jammed down? Do you have Num, Caps, or Scroll lock on?(not sure if those affect it, but they might) The fact that it only now started happening makes it sound like it could be one of the above.

If you're using Windows XP (ME has this feature as well, IIRC) check that StickyKeys isn't on. You hit Ctrl (or shift, alt, or Windows key) once and it acts as if it's held down until the next time you hit it (I may be mistaken, I have StickyKeys disabled and it's been a long time, but it's something like that.)

Oh wow, good thought. Stickey Keys *shudders*

My initial thought was that it could be a malfunctioning key or keyboard; this is why I tried it on two different computers - one Win 98 (first), the other XP. Same issue from both machines. I suppose it is possible both computers have a malfunctioning CTRL key, but not very likely.
Oddly, but happily, it stopped today at the completion of the mission I was attempting (Frost Gate), so I am now able to continue on with my addicti... I mean, gaming.
