i think next they should ban the letter P, because that can mean urine, and that is definately offensive, seeing as how nothing goes to the bathroom in GW, or rather _W, as to not be offensive.

G is the equivilant of the number 666 in a religion only found on a small island about 300 miles east of Bermuda.

I think I know why they banned the letter G.

1. It isn't awfully common.
2. It can be used in an offensive word that starts with an N.

I know there are other letters that work too, but G isn't common among names I guess... I don't know. Thats just my theory.

And that's a valid reason to ban "G"? Why not just ban "G String"?

It says the name contains inapropriate words or parts of words or whatever. Not "The name is already taken, blah blah blah".

And what's worse, they started with one of the lesser-used letters in the alphabet. That's always how it works. They nickle and dime you little by little, you don't notice at first cause they are banning z and x.

But one day you wake up and you no longer can use r or s!!

I agree that those name should all be gone. They dont make any sence in the game world and trow off the fantasy element of the game. I might be wrong but as far as I know most of those names are made by kids that are just trying hard to have a "cool name". I mean, someone with a name like " I M A NOOBZ" or "N O O B KILLA" or "B E E F Unit" cant tell me that they care for the game much. Usualy most of them play this just to #1 in all the ladders or Because they have a serious Ego problem and they use the game to boost it.

Fun thread, but boy I have to wonder about a few of you!

The letter "G" as a stand-alone is blocked, as I understand it, to prevent spoofing of ArenaNet employees. Now, before you ask me, I don't know! Maybe people would do G M and innocent players would start handing out passwords? Maybe they'd put G U I L D W A R S E M P L O Y E E or something and ask to go to the head of the merchant line in Lion's Arch?

I do not know why "G" is blocked, but I did ask several weeks ago and it's for security reasons of the spoof-prevention kind. Or at least so I recall but I'll be happy to ask about it again. I have the blocked list, but I don't have the rationale behind every block.

/doh, now why didn't I think of that one? That sounds like it could easily be the reason.
