Which pet should I get?
PippinTook
I want it to be sort of unique. I was thinking of a moa bird named Zaxbys, or should i go w/ a melandru's stalker. I dont really want a moss spider tho.
Algren Cole
all pets are evenly balanced..you gain nothing from having one pet over another so pick whatever pet you'd enjoy lugging around with you.
keep in mind that post kryta the pet is going to be essentially useless...

This should probably be in the Q&A section. All pets have slight differences in attributes, like more hp, more dmg, faster attack etc. But the differences are too marginal to count much.
An underworld spider poisons with a critical hit. A Warthog causes bleeding with a critical hit etc.
Seach Button is your best friend. Search around previous topics and find more info about all pets

Mithie

TopGun
Mithie, I'm dying.
Can you enslave a Hydra?

Swampgirl Inez
Can't tame the rabbit.
If you could, there would be literally hundreds 'with sharp, pointy teeth' running around.
I have a Warthog. He's got a face only a mother could love.

All the pets except the Spider are the same, the Spider is just plain better. The spider is also in the underword, you can't tame Moss Spiders in Pre-Searing.
On the rare occasion that I break out my pet I prefer the Warthog. Everyone uses Wolves and Stalkers. I've only seen 1 or 2 Moa Birds though, I support that choice. They kick your opponent in the face!

the Spider is no better than any other pet...except that it starts at lvl20..other than that it is completely balanced with every other pet in the game.
Tsukiyomi
Get a bear and name it Yogi.
Lorelei
I thought I could bring "Gwen". Anyone tried to charm the bull in pre-searing?
Omega Complex
Question, how do you get past the break charm that the bears have?
monkeyink
Knock them down or use a distracting arrow?
Algren Cole
you can't charm the bull.
if you bring an interupter with you Omega, you can charm the bear in pre-sear. You need a friend to interupt the bears break charm.

i want joe to be my pet i think all charectors should be able to get pets, my w/mo could use a friend
ComMan
You charm the bears in Shiverpeaks, not the ones in Pre Searing.
People have actually tested the pets and found out that Spider ARE better. Their damage range is TWO higher for both max and min damager per hit. ^_^

Who said all the pets are same? Each of the pet is different. All of them have different HP, damage, attack speeds etc.

but they are all balanced...the pets that do less damage attack faster...the pets that do more damage attack slower...it's all balanced in the end.

1. All pets are identical stat-wise
2. They just look different
3. No pet has special attacks
4. All have Attack speed 2.0
5. They have different damage types: slashing, piercing, blunt damage
Another Guild Wars webpage did extensive research and an Alpha tester posted his knowledge, too.
Pets evolve around certain levels, there are different forms:
Playful, Hearty, Elder, Dire, Aggressive... some give more HP but -1 damage or so, others increase attack +1 at the cost of HP.
I got a warning in a different forum as I posted a link to another GW site, so you will have to figure out where to find the info on your own.
But from personal testing, a Level 20 Elder Spider does exactly the same damage as an Elder Wolf.
But it does piercing, an Elder Wolf slashing. Get a necro with a +15 against piercing armor and you will see a difference.
To put it bluntly, all pets are different is not true. If people would not post their believes but resort to TESTING stuff they were told, they would notice that. The only real difference that I found were damage types and that large animals like Moas and Bears tend to hang/block more often due to sheer size and thus often need longer to the target.

BTW: A big bear or a super-sized roadrunner look awesome. The spider from the UW is more of a prestige and fashion thing, but people were also very impressed by my Moa towering over everyone including max size Wa/Mos.

not sure if any of the information is true....but it should be a good place to answer any of your pet questions.

Gaile Gray: You’re right in noting that pets do have differences. Some have more armor, some attack faster, some have more health, etc. You will note that the specifics are not really called out in the game. That’s because, to some degree, we leave at least some aspects of the game in undisclosed state so that the community can figure things out.

Yes, I got that. They are balanced ofcourse. Another guy was saying they are identical , but just look different. I should have quoted him.
I have been playing GW for more than 600 hours. I know everything here is balanced hehe...except Natures Renewal :P

pffft....I think that person(s) was promptly ignored by most people

i have a strider... possibly the least seen pet in the game, since you can only get them in pre and they start at level 1. And yes they are diffrent from moa birds!

Of course, if you gave your pet a name, unfortunately, I don't think there's a way that you can see what your pet evolved to.
So yes, in the end, two stalkers might not be the same, depending on who the owner is.
Tourist
Strider here too, I call him "Boo"

1) in Lornar's Pass just south of Beacon's Perch - extremely hard to get to, but possible for a skilled mid-level character with a guild or a good team, and it's the only way to get one pre-Ascension by going through the game normally;
or
2) in Witman's Folly.
