I have to ask about nerfs...I feel cheated

OK I purchased the game last week. Got a couple of chrs in the 10-12 range solo and hey wait a minute.

Everyone I see has tons of gold, items and skills.
BUT what about me.

then I read oh no you can't get anything its all nerfed you are screwed.
IS this the guild wars balance?
To throw the noobs to the wolfs because we just purchased the game???

Am I wrong in saying this or is the game dead to the noobs?

Not really. Yes, the game is nerfed, but it's not TOO nerfed. I get enough (I have around 28K right now) and I take along henchmen (which make my drops crappier to begin with). People have more skills because they're further in the game, that is all. You'll get your money if you play through normally. Though, I don't think you'll get as much as you would a few months ago...you'll still get enough. As far as the "cool" weapons that you see that go over 50k....don't worry about those.

Guild Wars has a steep curve between the "newbs" and "vets" because they try to maintain a balance. So all newbs don't have enough money to get ran to Droknar's right away, I guess.

But, the money/skills/items are there. You just gotta keep playing. I remember having nearly nothing when I was about 10-12. Doesn't help to always buy armor too. I got by for a long time with my Lion's Arch Druid's. I only bought stuff at Henge because I wanted some boots I could put a rune on without destroying my uber-Sup Beast Master Boots of Kickasz. =D

Anyway, if you want help, I'm pretty willing to do so, when I'm in game. =D

There are certainly those which already have uber items and heaps of gold.
But personally i think it doesn't really matter for pve. You will find your own uber items, and with some smart trading you can make a honest buck to pay for your armor upgrades.

Sure the only down side is that you will be enyojing the game a bit longer than those that already have everything.

Also note that because you can freely swap items and gold between characters.
That lvl5 with his godly uber fiercy sword of god slaying, could just have come from his lvl20 who had it still lying around.

Yeah, my first character was always broke. Now on my 4th, plus 3 I deleted at various levels, and I have, or can get a lot of gold and items for my newest guy.

It will be the same for you, most likely. So please don't lose heart. This is an awesome game!

I kinda feel the same way too. It like I missed the boat and now I gotta swim to catch up. That's one of the reasons I tend to stay away from the PvP arenas.

for the person who said some along the lines of "forget about uber weapons", thats not tru, just the other day i found a gold 15/50 horn bow in the crystal desert. dont lose heart u jsut have to farm

Don't get too discouraged....I was pretty low on cash too....did a few farming runs...and some smart buy sell....and made over 80k in a week of playing. Just don't sell everything you pic up right away...wait til prices are higher.

The easiest way to ensure you allways have proper items for PVE is to find a GOOD guild, not the kind that stand out and recruit on the street for anyone, then do nothing, one that has helpful members. Just put out on Guild Chat that you just made a whatever/whatever using these attributes and then one of the higher level characters should find a shiny sword/bow/axe/whatever for you to use.

A level 10-12 couldnt use most of the *uber* weapons for sale because of reqs, without unbalancing his or her attribute tree, anyways.

And a last note about uber items - look around for cheaper items that are just one point of damage off, it's not that big a deal, especially in PVE, and you can get them for 300-500 instead of 1000+.

Its not really a problem, so long as you're willing to accept using the collector items, and salvage lots of stuff for armor materials. You can easily get all the best equipment around that way, and then all you need is to secure yourself a few relatively inexpensive weapon mods and runes and then you're set. My 15-28 +15% Damage>50% HP Zealous Ascalon Bow of Defense with Shortbow Rate of Fire cost me only the negligible amount of time it took me to get 5 hydra claws in desert, and like 500 gold for the string. Sure beats paying 300K for a gold Half Moon or Short Bow with the same stats. (Although, admittedly, the Short Bows and Half Moons are much prettier)

"Uber" items (which really don't exist in anything more than a vanity sense) don't really have an impact on PvP, so this is pretty faulty reasoning.

Umm ... people running around lvl1-10 arena with Droknar armors and max items makes a huge impact. Are you saying those items can be found around the areas lvl 1-10 characters roam (around Old Ascalon)?

its not just new players who have small amounts of gold, mainly just the people with bad luck and dont farm... like me, ive had this game from just about day one and only have 50K across three characters.. dont feel bad, money plays but a small role in this game.. sadly very few people understand that

Don't feel so badly about being poor your first time around. If you go through the game and play all the missions and pick up everything, sell it or salvage it. You will make a good bit of gold just doing that by the time you get to shiverpeaks.

My first character was SO POOR. I had to run around for a good 2 hours outside ascalon (post searing) to get the money to afford some red dye so I could be cool and coloured in the first week or so of playing. I was always strapped for cash!

Eventually though, especially in the later missions and in the shiverpeaks the monsters drop GOOD gold. The desert is good as well. I have 4 characters now and it took a lot of work (too bad we don't get paid to play hehe) but I have some decent stuff and a bit of a nest egg stored away in my storage.

Hang in there! You'll get some good money and stuff. Don't feel so badly about not having "the BEST" stuff because it's really not all that good anyways

I agree. The game is too nerfed. I've been playing since the first betas and yes, it is nerfed. The droprates for runes, gold items are just too low nowadays. Why ? Because they just wanna balance it. I mean, everything is so expensive like Black Dye, Shards, Ecto etc. I know what farming is. The problem is that they've nerfed almost every good farming spot. If you ever find a good farming place, don't post it on forums. Don't even tell it to persons in your guild. Only tell it to persons you trust 100%.
Here it goes:
You show a friend, he tells a friend, friend tells a friend, friend posts it on forum = public, next day = nerfed
In the future, only botters will survive.


Btw, there are employees working for NCSoft and Arenanet whose job is to check forums and media and gather information about the current currency between players, guilds etc.

Look... I have had the game since launch and I have played the game when I felt like it, which is what I like about guildwars, and I have been frugal with purchases. I'm actually in the hole for about 50k with guild members when they needed some for this or that. I would give it freely... I ave having around 10 to 20k in my storage and I never have a problem attaining more from just casually playing the game. If I need a large sum of gold quickly I head for hall of heroes and play outright PvP till I get a Celestial Sigil which sells at the NPC for a large amount of gold quickly. Last time I did this was for my max Armor on my primary character.

So gold is plentiful, just not Absurdly Abundant. This is because in the past gold was so abundant that everyone had TOO much. more then they would ever use themselves. Also Runes of all kinds were selling for 10k plus even for minors... Superiors were going for 200k to 300k in some peoples minds. The fact that the Rune Trader came out MADE those ridiculous prices drop immediately. Also significant gold sinks pulled gold out of the economy which made it possible to buy more for your gold piece. That as well as people selling gold on the internet for real money were drastically slowed... Because it is lots harder to attain 500K to resell now. so everything they have done was to protect the online gaming experience for PvE. Nothing more nothing less.

All I can say is if you want gold... forget about selling to other players... sell to npcs and salvage everything... Only exception MAYBE gold items... Those still are prized...

Personal experience. if you are in need of materials for crafting or collectors (in ascalon region) do the first 5 missions post searing solo. this is rather easy to do normally. and yields lots of crafting and collector materials which can get collector items, or used to sell to collectors. I do all 5 missions solo in about 2hrs and get 2 or 3k in salvage materials and gold. then I have plenty to replenish my storage for crafting armor in later areas. I do not recommend doing this over and over again (IE Farming) mostly cause that would really be boring. but doing it every once in a while when you need materials is not too unreasonable.

The good news for new players is that I personally noticed that earlier areas have better drops and more often. then in later areas of the game. Exception being areas of the map you do not have to go through to advance across the map. Kessex peek, Loramars Pass, Arid Sea, The Falls, just naming a few... These areas normally have lots of strong mobs, and lots of good drops because as far as the story line goes you don't have to go to those areas for anything. Recently they have added quests to draw people to those areas because why else go there right? well trust me there are some nice goodies from those areas. Just from going down there every once in a while just for the heck of it. and its FUN too. lots of mobs and nice size maps to explore...

so All I can say, is just keep playing. its rare that if you are playing the game correctly, that you will come across something you want and not be able to afford it. By the time you reach an area that has new armor you normally have enough in storage or materials to get it. if you do not, just go back and do some more till you do. Maybe skip buying a middle armor once to afford the next level up instead. Sometimes it is preferable to get the collector armor for free instead of buying the armor in the area.. Classic example. in the Crystal desert. the collector armor is much better then the armor from the crafters... In fact its equivalent to that from Droknars, just the standard style though. but its really good to have in the desert for ascension missions. then once you get to droknars you saved the gold and materials for the other styles if you want it. Or even beter for the 15k armor for underworld or grotto, which is the premium max armor for all classes. Not better then the 1.5k generally, just different style... so its 100% optional. that's the best part...

Ive made 70k in the last 2-3 days...So no its not THAT nerfed...DO NOT pm me asking for my spot..If you do i wont even read it..

Don't worry about it. Just play the game and enjoy it. You don't need the 15k armor to be good or to pay 200k for a weapon when there are collector weapons and items that are just as good if not better then most of the items you see for sale.

Try not to listen to all the whiners about nerfing. Its not as easy as it use to be to make money for sure, but with a proper build and a little effort you can make plenty of money easily.

Don't waste your time at those Arenas. There's nothing to gain from them except bad PvP habits and grief.

Save yourself the grief and play in the Competition Arenas at Lion's Arch for random PvP.

See I told you guys that would be happening. glad someone else said it...

But seriously... I agree Stick to the lions arch arenas for fair PvP gameplay of that type...

Well, I have been playing on and off to get myself up to the l16 r/w that I am. Currently I am in Kryta and am just now starting to pick up some good drops. I have never had much money leading up to this point and still don't, but the fact is at this point in the game, what do you need the money for?

Have fun playing through the missions and exploring the explorable areas on the map and be sure that after some time you will get the armour/weapon of your dreams. I haven't yet and have only 1.5k, but I don't care - I'm having fun playing PvE.

It's the reason I bought the game and as yet have been fully impressed, despite all the Nerf posts I have seen!
