Partly for gameplay purposes and partly out of esthetical concern, I would suggest characters receive a (small) bonus for wearing a complete armor "set" (mail, robes, tattoos, etc.).
Seriously, have you seen the amount of people (mostly warriors) that run around with 4 (5 if you include headgear) different types of armor pieces? I can understand the reasoning behind some of it (the right advantages in the right place), but it usually just looks silly and actually punishes those who do bother to stay in character. There's already enough bad taste to make the world go around with all the dye abuse, so let's at least keep that aspect clean.
Bonus for wearing complete armor "set"

gameplay purposes.. ok well for your gameplay purpose it would help.. but for my gameplay purposes it wouldnt help. I use wyvern hands and feet to go with my W/N aka Shadownight look.. and to me the rest of wyvern cept the head looks really horrible.. so now Im punished becase I want to wear the type of armor I want to... Plus I look rather fetching in Knights Helm,Chest,Legs with Wyvern Hands,Feet.. so 8P to you..

I don't like the idea too, for reasons mentioned plus:
- people wore incomplete set of armor because some characteristics could stack. I believe ANet has fixed one of these, nullify the bonus for having ragtag armor.
I do like the mix and match (for the look, not to maximize the armor's potential).

Yeah, and then there are people like me, I love the look of collector necro's armor but it isnt nearly as strong or useful as other necro armors, so we have to go patchwork to get both form and function out of the armor!
I wish there were a way to have identical armor characteristics with different looking ARMOR, that would be nice.
Collector's necro looks sweet.

I disagree with this idea.
My Warrior wears different armor pieces as well.
Wyvern Helm, Gloves
Knights Shirt, Pants
Ascalon Boots
Used to wear an Ascalon Gloves, but that glove got a major sword rune applied to it, and I'm not using Swords at the moment, so I just chucked it into the storage box.
I find it nice to wear different armor pieces instead of everything the same.
Cheers.

Anyway, I agree ONLY if the bonuses weren't godly, and all other runes you've placed on the armor are destroyed or returned to your inventory and were unable to use while your set was on.
That would be a pain if you wanted to wear the set.
Might as well leave it as it is.I find the reactions to my suggestion very strange.
You all seem to disagree, but to what actually?
Even though I still think it's relatively bad taste to wear different armor pieces together, it is your full right to do so and you shouldn't be punished for it. You should only be rewarded (a tiny little bit) if you do choose to wear a complete set (Diablo II comes to mind, of course).
In other words: no harm done to those who want to combine armors; but a little extra for those who choose to stay clean.

Besides, there's still plenty of opportunity left to "stand out from the crowd" (as if anyone else cared, really) using dyes and wielding different items. Not to mention (and I'm saying this for the third time now), the bonus would be something really small. Not everyone would jump on the bandwagon.
Hypothetically, for the Platemail (I've only got experience with Warriors, really), wearing the full set would give you an extra +1 Strength (20% chance while using skills) on top of the +1 Strength that the helm gives you. Definitely not something everyone would care for.

| Are we talking about Guild Wars or doing drugs now? How does wearing a full set relate to "clean"? |
Anyway, clean as in: meant to be seen as a full set.
I mean, really, this thread wouldn't even exist if the different armor sets matched better. There are exceptions, of course, but most simply don't.
Call me unoriginal, pathetic and overcaring about the look of a bloody virtual character if you like, but I still think it's an immersion killer to some degree.

OK ive got the answer to your problem...and its free....no charge for this infinately geniusness of an answer......You ready? Are you sure you're ready?.......dont look. if you see something you dont like....look a different direction.
You cant sanction players because of what they wear!.....Are you from this planet?.....Get real. Theres more issues out there than trying to make YOU happy...Does everyone on GW think you look good? Doubt it.

Im not sure what is right or fair for game mechanics but I do agree that personally the clean look of a full complete set of armor is my preference. Although I would like to see more sets of armor that look different with the same stats or at least more customizable options possible gold sink for example adding spikes or crests or some of those details....
I don't think it's a bad idea, Dungeon Siege rewarded you for wearing complete armor sets, so it was worth the effort of collecting all the pieces of the set. Of course you couldn't buy the pieces of armor from a forge, you had to find the armor pieces (weapons and shield included) in game. Maybe if ANET did something like that, have remote chests have uniqe pieces of armor that you can collect.

Do you honestly think that if only some people "clean armor" types get a reward however small, everyone else wont feel punished? I mix and match my armor all the time! you must hate people like me cuz ill splatter whatever dye I find on! I think to me its more imersive like this, as it would only be the elitist types with the money to be able to afford full sets. for the most part you would see whatever pieces people had found being used. and +1 to anything would not be considered a "small" reward in a game where people will do anything to make thier builds as effective as possible. you would in fact kill ANY idividuality there is in the game . Why wouldnt you consider your "good taste" as reward enough?
