How do you make cash?
Baratus
Alright, I need some gold, how do I gte it. I have been grinding for over a week trying to get 10k and I can't even get 2~3k. II used to enjoy this game but I am so sick of it right now. Nobody drops anything unless you venture alone. Venture alone and three or four hits mean death. Venture with allies and nobody drops anything. So you can spend hours with a few allies getting four or five items, or you can spend ten minutes dying trying to get better drops. I am stuck and need the cash for better armor and weaponry. I got my sword in Ascalon several patches ago and am at Kryta now, using the same sword because drops are so rare, and 90% of the time it won't drop a weapon I use. When it does, the weapon is weaker than mine! I can buy better ones, but I can't get any cash. Is it just me or is this whole game unbalanced now?
I remember playing from the beginning and it ruled. You needed cash? Go slaying for an hour or two and salvage or sell the drops. Now if you want anything you're supposed to grind for a week slaying the same damn monsters in the same area over and over and over and over again?! Everybody talks about the desert and other high-level places, but I can't go there yet. I have twelve or thirteen runes that I cannot use, and the retarded rune-seller sells them for 2~3plat, and offers me 25 gold for each? What the hell is that? At least give me half price!
I know you can offer to sell them to other players, and I've tried, at half the price of the respective new rune. No go. I have only sold one thing to another player since I started playing and only then because he was desperate and needed it more than I did. Still, if players won't buy the things, and a 2plat rune won't fetch more than 25 gold, how the hell can I make money with them?
I'm not trying to get rich and have 800plat here, I just want to make enough to get by. With the economy system non-functional (come on, 25gold for something worth 2p?) and players apparently abundant with the major and minor runes I have to get rid of, how does one do it? This sucks and I nwo understand 100% why people use macros or bots or whatever. Start it up and walk away for a month and have two or thre plat when you come back? I don't see the big deal. What I do see is hours of grind going unrewarded and an economy system so screwed-up it's impossible to do anything. In the time I played today, I made ~640 gold all day. That's just WRONG. I am open to suggestions other than "you don't need money". Trust me, YOU DO.

get guildmates to help you out and then repay when you can ?
if you're not willing to farm and just need a little cash to pay for your armors, I guess that should do it

We do help eachother, but none of us have the cash. Pooled we might have 3plat, if we're lucky. They're having the same problems I am. We get lucky and find a rune worth several plat, but you either sell it for 25 gold or keep it locked up in your inventory for when the economy is finally removed or fixed. Same with purple and blue weapons.
Oh and that reminds me. Is it NORMAL to continually get purple drops, but after identifying them, they have no rune or even special powers? I have found a dozen or so weapons and items like this. For instance, I found a short sword and when identified, it's name was "Shortsword", no extra atrributes, no nothing. Sold for 80 gold though. I've used expert salvage kits on a few of these and yielded no runes or anything. They're just purple. Like the devs want to tease you. You see a purple drop, get all excited, then it's nothing at all, as if making money wasn't hard enough.

im not even going to bother saying just how little money means in this game.. but i will say this.. just play the game, some day you will get lucky and find a item worth like 8K.. which is really all you need... another thing i did with my first character is i explored just about everywhere i can and got some ok drops... but they add up in the end, you dont need to farm to get gold.. just luck

the color blue/purple/gold doesn't mean your weapon will have bonuses, it means it is a rare drop compared to what is generally droped by the monster/enemy you killed
Baratus
No what I meant was that it was unidentified and purple, but identifying it only showed a normal item colored purple. It didn't have any extras at all.

I'm pretty sure what you had was a purple weapon without the text "unidentified" written in the description
it happened to me several times

Pre-searing is more generous with drops. I was getting decent drops for that area while I was there. Try moving past that area and watch as it gets worse. I still haven't made jack.
I have two options right now and both are boring. I can push myself through the storyline to get on through the game, or I can spend hours upon hours wasting time trying to farm at areas other than the end of the game. Both are boring, but there's no choice. I pushed through three sections of the storyline and I still can't get good drops. What were the devs smoking when they did this? It's damn-near impossible to buy anything over 200~400 gold unless you spend weeks wasting away farming.
There has to be a balance between going through the story and building up your gold/experience. In GW all I see is pushing through the story because you cannot do the latter. So you can do the story, but when you wanna' take a break and get some new stuff, forget it. That's what I see anyway. They should have left a decent drop area every few missions so players could do that. Not everybody wants to push through just to beat the game.

I'm sorry to hear about your wealth problem (or the lack of it) Where exactly are you right now (as far as the storyline goes)? Gold ($$$) drops gets better when fighting against high level monsters (not so bad gold drops starting in Gates of Kryta).
I'm an E/R and have a tendency to explore every bit of area (w/ the henchies as much as possible) and by the time I reached Granite Citadel, I was able to buy most of my 15k armor except for the gloves which I was a plat short (not to mention the other armors I had bought before I reached the Citadel). Granted, we Ele's don't need a helm nor did my armor require any rare material

Also you should always identify all things you are going to sell. For example, a plain short sword might be worth 20 gold when you are selling it but if you identify it before you sell it, might be worth of 36 gold. When you are short of gold at start of game, identifying helps a bit but its not a total solution for your problem

I have to agree with the OP. This game came out and said straight up "Less grind than any other game". Bullcrap. So what the level caps at 20, you still need to grind 30 extra levels to get the skill points to get all your skills. You need to farm in an unfarmable game (let's face it, drops are rediculous now) for your Droknar armor. Forget it if you want the 15k armor, have fun farming for a week just for cash.
The only way to make it rich in this game is to make a primary monk, go to UW and do 3 man smite runs. Or be a trapper and do a 4 man trap run.
I'm not hatin on GW. I like the game. I just think the newer people to this game that did not get the chance to hit all the sweet spots that were out there when GW was first released, are going to find themselves farming a lot more than GW initially pitched in their release.

By the time my first character reached the Granite Citadel and saw the 15k armor I decided I wanted that armor just so I could look expensive. The problem was I only had a few platinum. My character wasn't that strong so I couldn't solo any of the high value areas so I decided to farm a wimpy area to death.
I earned 60k in 2 days by killing everything in Scoundrel's Rise over and over and over and over. I picked up every item and every coin. Once I was full I sold everything and continued on and on and on. I would get about 1 to 1.5k each time I cleared the area. It was a mind numbing process, but it suited my needs.

they are not identified yet
but it's not written "unidentified" in the description
therefore I already know that there will be 0 bonus if I identify them

just salvage everything u pick up, save it all up in ur storage and sell to a trader/player for a good price, its not rocket science.
If u play the game through u should have more than enough money/materials saved up by the time u get to droknars to buy armor, just save up and dont buy things u really dont need
if u really wanna be super rich, farm, and rip people off, selling things that r worth 1g for 1p and charge for running people to places. and just so u know i'm not one of those people, i have 5k in my storage and am on my third run through the game...why am i soooo not uber?!!! lol

Playing through the game is boring? Then why did you buy it?
PvP? Well you're in luck you don't need gold for PvP.
There is no grind in GW if you're a PvEer or PvPer. People make the grind.
You've got people who try to use their RP char for PvP so they spend insane amounts of gold on items that you get for free if you use a PvP char.
Then theres the PvE players who seem to think they need flawless items to play through the game.
Droknars armor with a max damage weapon is more than enough to play through the game. That'll cost you like what 20k (less actually 20k was for monk designs)? I had 30k by the time I got to droknars.
PLAY THE GAME
You don't need money.
You see all these people with 800k? Great? They've got 800k because they have nothing to buy... They can go ahead and get a novelty item like a 15%>50% max storm bow with 10/10 sundering 30 life 8 req. You don't need that to play through the game.

I personally don't think you've been playing properly. By the time i got to beacon's perch i had more or less 5K. That was plenty of money.
Plus this was my first character, and i got it all from doing missions with other people (sometimes we failed the mission, and had to do it over again, but this was a good way to get money)
Another reason why i had around 5K, was because i DIDNT buy ANYTHING, i only used the armor in old acsalon, theres no point in buying extra armor with just +5 more, no point at all.
I stayed like that till lion's arch when i needed an upgrade, which i did.
I didn't have any money troubles.
I guess maybe your just unlucky - but my advice to you, would be to jsut get on with the game, forget about money, forget about materialistic possesions - whats worse:
1) Having a 60% DP moments before completing a mission with your group - but you still manage to get into the crystal desert
OR
2) Grinding hours and hours at a spot which will hardly give you any money because your not in a good place yet.
Well i'd have to say (2) - its boring, plus your probably not farming in the correct place.
At the very worse, get a run to forge, get the skills you need, which will make you stronger, and then complete the kryta missions.

just farm those mountain trolls right outside of droknar's. sure they have been nerfed but you can still make 2-3k in about 10mins just selling those crappy drops to the merchant for 50-60g each and may be +100g if the item is precious. sure those trolls are difficult to kill but you make money. i once gotten a gold 5:1 vampiric bow out of one of these trolls but since, nada.

I think we need to know your class/subclass and your build before we can give you any information about how to make money....making money is pretty class specific

This game is only a grind if you think you need the 15k armor.
