[MERGED - OFFICIAL] Dueling aka 1v1

Oooh. I like the lions coming out after a time limit. Level 35 lions. >:-)

Just a thought along the same lines, wouldn't it be nice to have an internal arena within the guild, where the leader/officers could set it up anyway they wanted to? Including 1v1, 1v3, random selection of players for teams, preselection for team, etc...

yeah, 1v2 or 1v3 can be great.
you can test out shutdown builds and builds that are ment to kill a certain enemy, in a situation that is more fitting.

TOTALLY up for this, especially to get n00bs to shape up and learn to alter their CA builds.
Not only should there be a seperate arena in my opinion, but there needs to be /duel x control that will challenge x to a duel. If th other player accepts, theygo into the 1v1 arena together.

You can also show tyour fellow guildies that you need work as a team when killing a monk. Coz sometimes they just attack 1 by 1. and dont follow the calls. You as a monk, he/she as a warrior. And then he gets a lesson learned by you: he can't kill you in his own
Manfred
I just hope that Anet has it in chapter 2 already and is sitting back and chuckling.

There would be entirely too many draws since this game isn't based on elitism, most everyone would have the max equipment. So, you put two alike W/Mo's in the same arena they will beat their heads against each other all day and night. It's not a feasable type of play for this game. Maybe WOW or Everquest, but, not here.

Now HERE's an idea that nobody seems to care about...
In the Guild Hall, say your guild has 16 people online...
How about an in guild fight? Fight your own guild members in an 8v8 match to work something out?
THEN
If you wanted a 1v1 fight, it'd be easy to do as well...
Omg, is that so hard to ask?

But your argument makes it clear how devastating 1on1 would be. Because everyone will think in 1on1 the better player will win and that is totally untrue. Even the dumbest guy can defeat a top level player just because he has the counter build.
So if you want 1on1 and please, want it for the right reasons. A dueling would be for fun, for sparring, for wasting time - it won't mean anything.

1v1 should be an option for a guild arena (an arena available to be played and setup by the guild and it's guests only). It doesn't mean much though based on who wins because for every build, there is an anti-build. The question is, who picked the right one for that particular battle.

i dont like the idea of having 1v1 in the guild hall...
what if nobody in your guild is online?
there should simply be an area where you can either go random, fighting against your own profession, or chalenge, where you challenge somebody...
i dont think there should be any reward for this, and i think the battles should stop after 5 minutes. if both are alive, it's a tie.
last thing, the arena should be tiny...
that's my opinion about this...

Yes 1v1 ftw.
Im so sick of playing with teams and having to rely on people. Honestly if this ever comes out im spending all my time in 1v1 arenas. They should make the scoring best out of 3 or highest points in 5 minutes. I think they should add like blue emotes or some other color to show your solo abilities. I know it doesnt say anything about your team skills but honestly who cares. Its not like this game is so focused on "Guild wars" anyway.
The only problem i see would be some monk coming in and winning through boredom. I could survive anyone with my monk 1v1. So maybe they could add in some damage calculator and at the end of the match, the one with the highest damage output wins. Monks and mesmers would be the two most "pwning" classes for this type of arena. Although maybe the new characters will be better than i think.
Also it would give you the chance to settle your differences with some bloated egos out there. I would say more on that thought but i dont think id like to start a flame war about the current ranking system.

What exactly makes you a top player in this game? The guy who spends 24/7 in tombs because he has no job or is retired etc.? Why is he better than you? Because he has the time (or chooses to invest his time) to reach insane amount of fame?
Its funny how the (time means nothing) policy is imaginary in this game. Without the time you would never be a high rank. Personally i would not spend weeks in tombs to catch up to the guys at the top. I have been around as long as most of them. Are they better than me? No. They just have been grinding in tombs for longer.
I think everyone plays this game the same. The only thing that makes you better is your build. If someone kicks your ass in the arena, then you LOST. Same for this 1v1 thing. You had the choice of what build to bring. If you could not cover all of your ends then expect to lose.
For example i was in tombs last night and this is all i saw "R6 group looking for R6+ players" or switch it around for R9 and so forth. Its lame and totally against what this game supposedly stands for. I know the people at these ranks earned them. Im not trying to insult the work they have done. But all your work doesnt make you better than anyone else in any way. I would say that your most likely more experiences because you have ran the tombs at least once or twice but thats about it. This game isnt rocket science and im sick of the closed mentality of tombs today.
1v1 is totally legitimate and it gives people an alternative to grinding in the tombs with people so stuck up in their own @$$.
End of Truth.

Fr_3_aK
I had a 1 on 1 duel today. Are you wondering how?
What happened is;
I spawned at the RoF PvP map. And one way or another everyone quit on my team except me. So i asked everyone on the opposing team (via public chat) to fight me 1 on 1. They did. They sent a warrior and we fought (i won).
I think this would definetly work, once enough PvP'ers caught on to this form of arranging a fight. It was alot of fun. I'm sure there are many more GW players who'd love to have duels. Maybe if enough people start asking for 1 on 1 fights in game, it could really catch on.
PS I havent read the rest of the thread so sorry if i went off topic.

Copied & Pasted from here.
Okay, some of you have been asking for this and some of you haven't, but I think we all want this sooner or later.
"So you're minding your minding your own business when someone just called you a noob. What are you going to do about it? Obviously, either a) insult that person back or b) ignore it. Chances are, you wish you could prove to that person who the real noob was. So here you just got called a noob and the best you can do is put that person's name on your ignore list."
Has that ever happen to you? Do you believe that rank is nothing? Do you want an option of finding out who the 1337 players really are? Only through a petition my friend, only through a petition.
Here's what I'm asking. It's very simple. (After all these PVP updates, you can at least give the comunity this.) Make a "Solo Arena." In this arena you can either choose to go against a random opponent or choose to challenge someone else by typing that player's ign into a text box. Of course, the other player has to agree to it first, so that player goes to Solo Arena as well and waits on the first person to challenge him to a duel. When the first person clicks the "Request Challenge" button a box would pop up on the other player's screen saying, "<So & so> challenges you to a duel, do you accept?" Then the other player decides from there.
This would solve any disputes between two people. If you both are arguing on who's better, prove it! You can always have a best two out of three to show who's truly the most 1337.
Not only that, but make another ranking system up! Something that shows experience in this type of arena. In GVG, you have the ladder. In HOH, you have "/rank". Make the solo arena have its own emote like "/solo". This will definitely make the whole rank problem null & void. Rank only means time dedicated into playing HOH. It also shows how many mods & skills you unlocked (hopefully) and what type of builds play in HOH. Rank does not show SKILL. Competition Arena (now Random Arena) shows skill. You KNOW who the good players are when you team up with them. In Random Arena, you have to choose skills that you know will help the team in some way or another, not based on everyone else like needing an Orders Necro or a Taint Necro in IWAY. Solo Arena ladder would show who the best players are against any build using one or more different builds effectively. And that shows TRUE SKILL.
So please, sign my petition. Let's have Solo Arena available to us Competition/Random Arena lovers and for all of those who just want a way to settle our disputes like grown men & women instead of calling each other names back & forth like some kids.
Just my hopes in a game that continues to get better,

Random 1 vs 1 would not really work out well, unless there are some specific rules applied to the 1 vs 1 arenas. You can get stalemates easily, or either would be unable to kill each other, etc.
Some examples of rules to be applied to the 1 vs 1 arenas could be:
- time limit (say 60 seconds)
- 'special' modes activates after time limit is reached
What kind of 'special' modes?
- Beserker Death (both players has the 'special 1 vs 1 arena skill - Beserker Death' activated on them)
Berserker Death
- Increased 50% attack speed
- Increased 50% movement speed
- Takes double damage
Counts as a skill, unremovable until death.
Obviously, this berserker death would perhaps be best suited for 2 dueling warriors who uses weapons.
For casters, something similiar yet different could be applicable. Such as:
<insert cool name associated with casters here>
- Casting time reduced by 50%
- Skill recharge time reduced by 50%
- Casting costs reduced by 50%
- Takes double damage
Then again, all of these could be combined into one skill, perhaps named it:
Balthazar's Fury
- Attack Speed increased by 50%
- Movement Speed increased by 50%
- Takes double damage
- Skill activation time reduced by 50%
- Skill recharge time reduced by 50%
- Skill costs reduced by 50%
- Takes double damage
This 'skill' would be applied onto both combatants when the 60 seconds time limit is reached.
(or suggest a more suitable time limit)
With this implementation, I think the battle would have less chance of dragging on for too long.

They really need to sticky this.
I did a search for "1 on 1" & "one on one" and the search engine is down at the moment. I can't believe that this thread hasn't been posted in again in over 2 weeks until I posted in a different thread and was brought here.
I feel like the community NEEDS this petition to be a sticky. It's not a thread, it's a PETITION and if it has this many posts, I don't see why it shouldn't be one.

I don't see how this should even bother being a petition since it's a rediculously bad idea. ArenaNET should focus on important things, like skill balancing, more team-based gameplay modes, and even more fun for PvE'ers.
Simply stated, whenever someone calls me a noob I ignore him, I don't let it get to me.
And the thing is, if I were to get challenged, what comes out of winning? People being even more of an ****ole to eachother. "OMGZ I BEAT YOU 1on1!, STUPID NOOB". When you ignore them at first, big deal, ignore the person, change district, chances are you won't see them again.
The reasoning behind why I'm so against 1on1 that I don't want ArenaNET to even waste their time thinking of some way to impliment it, is that, in a game such as Guild Wars that is solely based around being able to bring 8 specific skills from a huge list into any one fight, is that, 1 on 1 will just become a mediocre version of rock, paper, scissors. Each profession has their strengths and their weaknesses, so in a game of 1 on 1, there will be very little in showing off who has the greater amount of skill solely because of the way some classes get dominated by certain builds.
That's where the team-play aspect of Guild Wars that I love comes into play. Certain professions/builds/skills compliment others on your team, that's why you rarely see just 1 person on a team taking out everyone else with ease, is because the game is balanced in such a way that it is not possible to go Rambo without any type of support.
1 on 1 would be boring, bland, cheap, unbalanced, and just a retarded way of adding more fuel to flame-wars. They show no amount of skill, and throwing in any kind of emote will cause an even larger gap between hardcore/casual gamers, and creating a larger group of people who are like the retards you find in Hero's Ascent flashing their rank because they think it makes their balls look bigger.
To put it nicely,
This is a BAD IDEA that should NEVER be implimented, as it would be a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME on ArenaNET's part.

1v1 dueling would just lead to more smack talking and flaming in the public areas. We have enough of that already. Besides too many 1v1 would just be draws. I've had my opportunities in 4x4 randoms when everyone was dead but two of us and it went on an on an on an on and if one is losing all they have to do is start running (like most rangers) and they would never end.
/unsigned just a wasteful use of needed resources in other areas of the game like making an 8x8 random arena which would be a lot better than some silly 1v1 dueling feature.

There is a lot of demand for 1 vs 1, it will be a matter of time before ANET implements it.
1 vs 1 can be implemented, as for regarding stalemates, there can be many ways to stop those, as I have mentioned before, simple rules such as adding in
- time limits
- sudden deaths
Or, as some members of this forum mentioned before, unleashing "lions" into the arena to chew up both the combatants, etc.
The majority of the people in the world are resistant to change, its like most of them have the "Who moved by Cheese?" concept.

It will only be implemented when there is no better place to spend the resources and since they are on a six months release of future expansions I don't think it will be anytime soon. There's still 8x8 random arenas to make and new looking skins and more PVE content (graphics/npcs) and new classes and 100's of new skills and elites for each of those classes that will take precedence. (smile)

1 vs 1 would be perfect for that smacktard that spams "NUB TEAM LOLOL WE PWNZ UUUUU!!!!" at the end of a team arena match.

I don’t have the time to read through this thread verbatim, but I do get the gist of it. I do think it’s a good idea within reason.
I don’t think a 1vs1 competitive arena (where we’re awarded factions/exp/rank) would be the best of ideas. Giving players a reward to work towards will force "some" to do what they can to achieve it. (ie. IWAY faction farming in Hero’s Ascent just to up their ranks) Where in this case, it would probably be survival builds more than anything.
Having a 1vs1 arena just for fun (with no rewards to the victor) is possibly the best thing to do in my opinion. Allow players to make teams of 2, and when they enter the mission, they are split in to opposing teams. Like an organized sparring match. They can talk before hand, try out builds, etc.
That would fit in perfectly with the Nameless Isle training grounds. With all those barrel dummies and all. Maybe even add a NPC in there that would warp you to the sparring arena.

Are you all ready? I am going to tell you why 1v1 will never happen without issuing challenges.
1: 55 monks kill anything without enchantment removal.
2: N/Me and Me/N can kill anything solo.
3: Not free enough. 8 skills vs 8 skills isn't a test of skill, it's a test of who has the best skill bar.

Vampire Gaze, Vampiric Touch will kill 55 monks
2: N/Me and Me/N can kill anything solo.
This statement is not true, no class can kill anything solo, there is always a counter.

Incorrect. There is no "best skill bar", there is always a counter.

(well not sure if this has been mentioned in the previous pages)
There is already 1on1 implemented in the Isle of the nameless training grounds. If you want to test your build against another, there are specific build npcs available to fight w/.
If you just want to duke it out w/ a "live" player and no rewards then they could add that to the training grounds where when you enter a box or circle arena area, you can turn hostile against each other (member to member). lol.
but if its against other guild/public players, then its already implemented in RA's and you can just ask them if they would want to 1on1 (as mentioned by a previous poster).
ATM: /unsigned.
/g'day.

1v1 is biased towards fighting professions and builds. Support builds and professions are at an unfair disadvantage in 1v1 - that's why it was never a part of the game to begin with.

I would favor Dueling / 1 vs. 1 in Guild Halls. Challenge a guildmate to a duel and have some fun.
Call it a recreational time sink.
I'd love to be able to test out different types of anti-warrior / anti-caster skills against someone who actually has a brain. Or test out a spike build to see what minor tweaks would up your damage over time output.

i would love one vs one for that mouthy guy you fight in pvp. like when i fought with the 4vs4 arena during the pvp event i made an assassian testing it out and this warrior kept saying ill own you noobs and so needless to say i got out my warrior and kept random fighting until i ran into him and owned him BWHAHAHAAHA
i think you should be able to hit a button like home and a box pops up then from there you type in a name and send a formal challenge to the other play who can accept set skills then enter the arena.
it would be great cause you could set it up where the guild was controled by the strongest and fight over guild rule o.0 just an idea
