This is little more than a vent, but some may get a chuckle out of it.
I was doing the Forgotten Wisdom quest (go to Arid Sea, find some dude, get 15 attribute points). When I got to said area, I saw a collector looking for massive jawbones. In exchange of 5 of those he'd give me a brand spanking new pair of boots. I had 4 of those and luckily all of them in my inventory. The area seemed to be full of sand giants, so I thought I would just kill some of them, get the last massive jawbone and be a happy camper. After all I didn't really feel like walking back to Arid Sea again only for boots.
Little did I know.
I did the attribute quest and started hunting giants. Hunting, hunting hunting... no jawbone. Eventually I cleared the whole Arid Sea of giants. No jawbone!
Then I entered Vulture Drifts, thinking of re-entering Arid Sea and maybe having a better luck this time. But alas, there was a patrol of 5 sand giants almost next to the res shrine. I thought "I'm in luck, I'll just kill some of these, get ressed as necessary, kill some more and get the jawbone.
Little did I know.
The roughly 1-2 -minute cycle of killing those bastards was pretty much from this
to this
to this
Rinse and repeat.
After 3 hours, 150+ giants, hundreds of giant stomps, 1 plat, 3 crappy giant slayer hammers, some other drops and a lot of cursing... no jawbone! I thought that I'll walk to the collector one last time and maybe get lucky in the process. Bollocks, I died, resurrected in the middle of nowhere, got pissed off and logged out.
Moral of the story? Can't think of anything really. This kind of "farming" sure did suck though! Anyone had similar experiences?
edit: and the funniest thing was that I got the 4 other massive jawbones just by casually walking from Augury to Gorge to Thirsty.
I want three hours of my life back

u would probably have better luck going solo into the thirsty river mission (i think its thirsty river, anyway im talking about the one where u kill sand giants for morale at the very beginning). at the beginning of the mission theres 2-3 sand giants that u can single-pull and easily kill. after one or two rounds of this, u should have ur massive jawbone.
better yet, offer 400gp for one. GL

I think it's mainly bcuz those henchies havent learnt how to share yet
.
they probably have those 100 or so jawbones that you would have received w/o them.

I had given up on those damn giants a long time ago, pain enough just getting to them muchless getting anything worthwhile from them.
I didn't even need to read the post to laugh, just looked at the map pic and there was an instant LOL.

I really feel for you. I did something similiar this weekend looking for Losaru Manes. I only needed one more and not a single one dropped in roughly 3hrs of killing them. Very frustrating.

Dude I feel your pain. In Kryta I was trying to get these 5 River Skale fins so I could seel the cane from the collecter for 1k, at the time when 1k was a lot of money for me, after emptying the area between The Gates of Kryta and Lion's Arch of all the River Skales 3 or so times I only had 2 river skale fins. Now the aggrevating thing was that on many other occasions I had passed on picking up about 20 or so fins earlier in the game. Wasted a good 90 minutes on that....
