Hi everyone,

Here is the first build I post. I wanted to create a good melee character, good damage dealer but who also take advantage of all the draining life abilities of the necromancer to stay longuer in the battle. I hesitated a lot between doing a N/W and a W/N, but I fear to have some energy problem with the W/N. N/W allows me also to be more flexible if needed (and switching a few skills to be more supporting than fighting in melee if PVP groups needs it).

So, here is the build :

-----

Blood Magic 12
Swordsmanship 12
Soul Reaping 3

Attributes point used (200/200)

Vampiric Touch [Blood Magic] (15,1,5) Skill: Touch target foe to steal up to 62 health.

Vampiric Gaze [Blood Magic] (10,1,5) Spell: Steal 52 health from target foe.

Life Transfer [Blood Magic] (10,2,30) Hex: For 11 seconds, target foe suffers health degeneration of 7, which you gain as health regeneration. This is an elite skill

Plague Touch [General] (5,1,0) Transfer a negative Condition from yourself to target touched foe

Sever Artery [Swordsmanship] (a4,0,0) Attack : If this attack hits, the opponent will begin Bleeding for 21 seconds, losing Health over time.

Gash [Swordsmanship] (a7,0,0) Attack : If this attack hits a Bleeding foe, you strike for 8 more damage and that foe suffers a Deep Wound, lowering that foe's maximum health by 20% for 17 seconds.

Savage Slash [Swordsmanship] (5,0,10) Attack : If this attack hits, it interrupts target foe's action. If that action was
a spell, you deal 32 extra damage.

Pure Strike [Swordsmanship] (5,0,8) Attack : If Pure Strike hits, you strike for 24 more damage. If you are not using a Stance, Pure Strike cannot be "blocked" or "evaded."

------

Any advice or comments ?

Get in Siphon for Gaze. Final Thrust for Savage. Galrath Slash for Pure Strike. Those three will up your damage and health regen.

Thanks for your comments !

Final Thrust & Galrath are high cost in adrenaline (8). As I don't have any skills that raise quickly adrenaline (speed attack bonus or adrenaline bonus), I'm not using them effeciently. However, as I choosed Necro primary, it will be easy to handle energy cost skills (one of the reason why I took Savage & Pure Strike).

Question : Why replacing Gaze for Siphon as I already have Life Transfer ?

First thing you should replace, if anything, is Vampiric Touch. Terribly inneficient. Gaze is far better.

Vampirir Touch costs a lot (15), is touch ranged and steals only 10 more hp compared to Gaze. However, I wanted to max out all my healing possibilites as the build is meant to be used in melee and Necro have low armor.

What was your idea of replacement ?

Here is an other proposition of build following the same idea : melee character with vampiric type of healing.

If I replace Gaze with, let's say with Sprint and Pure Strike with Galrath Slash, my energy costs and healing will be a lot lowered...
Then comes the question : why not doing a W/N instead of a N/W ?

Warrior/ Necromancer

Blood Magic 12
Swordsmanship 12
Strengh 3

Vampiric Touch [Blood Magic]
Life Transfer [Blood Magic]
Plague Touch [General]
Sever Artery [Swordsmanship]
Gash [Swordsmanship]
Savage Slash [Swordsmanship]
Pure Strike [Swordsmanship]
Sprint [Strengh]
Galrath Slash [Swordsmanship]

If this build was meleeing the first one, who do you think will win ?

The first, you just don't need all those attacks. Using a few Nec nukes is far more efficient. This is my Nec/W:

Axe 12
Blood 13 (+1/+1)
Soul Reap 7 (+1)

Life Siphon
Life Transfer-E
Vampric Touch
Awaken the Blood
Plague Touch
Penetrating Blow
Executioner's Strike
Frenzy

When I cast my Blood skills they are really at level 15. Transfer+Siphon get degen/regen to the max at 10 pips. Vampric Touch is a nice nuke and the recharge isn't that bad. Plague Touch is just one of those skills that come in handy so I keep it on me. The rest are just high damage attacks. With Frenzy I can get the adrenaline quickly and the build is pretty efficient.

I made this before I saw that Cleave was changed from its suckiness so you might want to consider taking out Transfer for Cleave but I think you will have a harder time replacing Transfer than replacing Cleave.

Well, I read a few other messages in the forum and find this line...

So don't take their popularity as a sign of anything beyond the obvious. You most certainly can make a Necromancer build without DoTs. It'll probably be better for it. I really don't know how to think. My only experience on DoTs is the Mesmer Conjure Phantasm that I founded interesting to finish enemies... Still, I have to agree that it wasn't one of my most usefull skill.

Does everyone think that DoTs are bad ? Should I remover Life Transfer and take an other elite skill ?

haha, I'll see how well you fare with soul leech on and being hit with a Final Thrust when you're down a notch. and you have no defense. You thinking 20 hp/sec degen if it goes uncountered will kill a W/N before your 10 seconds of Transfer runs out and you have to wait 20 before you can recast? Think again. You have no armor buffs and will die quickly to Sever Artery (hey, there goes your life siphon too! for free!) , Gash, Galrath Slash, Final Thrust. Life Siphon is a nice skill when you're a blood mage, but Transfer is overused and inefficient.

This is a nice variation I am thinking to use with my W/N come release; Mind that Rend Enchantments is a one-time per opponent skill, hence all I'm using in combat with energy is Frenzy and Soul Leech. This will tax my energy reserve enough; I will have to bring as many energy options as I can; but it will be far more efficient than having 5 skills you can only use once in a while.

Skills:
1) Frenzy - (5,0,4) For 8 seconds, you attack 33% faster but take double damage.
2) Sever Artery - (4a,0,0) If this attack hits, the opponent begins bleeding for 26 seconds, losing health over time.
3) Gash - (7a,0,0) If this attack hits a bleeding foe, you strike for 10 more damage and that foe suffers a deep wound, lowering that foe's maximum health by 20% for 21 seconds.
4) Galrath Slash - (8a,0,0) This attack strikes for +42 damage if it hits.
5) Final Thrust - (10a,0,0) Lose all adrenaline. If Final Thrust hits, you deal 42 more damage. This damage is doubled if your target was below 50% health.
6) Rend Enchantments - (10,3,30) Target foe loses 4 enchantments. For each Monk enchantment removed, you take 40 damage.
7) Soul Leech (elite) - (10,2,15) For 10 seconds, whenever target foe casts a spell you steal 67 health from that foe. This is an elite skill.
8) Sprint - (5,0,20) For 8 seconds, you move 25% faster.

I agree completely, life transfer is no where near as effective in PVP as soul leech. Gladiators armor is a must for energy management. As for curses, you might want to try something like this.

12 Swordsmanship
8 Strength
10 Curses

Axe Rake
Executioner's Strike
Eviscerate (E)
Penetrating Blow
Frenzy
Sprint
Barbs
Enfeeble

I don't use Soul Leech for healing, that's silly. It's a Backfire, with less energy req and less recharge. Sure, it only has half damage, but that's not the intent of either of them. If it does its thing, then fine, I did well. But if it makes a monk not want to cast for 10 seconds every 15 seconds, that's what I'm going for.
