Noob question: i just finished the story line with my first toon, and have no idea where fow or uw is. Could someone take some time and enlighten me?

go to Temple of the Ages.
if your worldpart (europe/us/korea) has favor, then you can enter fow or uw.
uw = kneel for statue of grenth, pay 1k to voice of grenth
fow = kneel for statue of balthasar, pay 1k to balthasar's champion.
