Just interested to know what you guys think is the best profession to choose alongside a necromancer. Can be primary or secondary.
Thanks

I have a N/Mo that I love but the only monk skill I use now is rebirth on certain harder missions. I'm only at Riverside right now, but once I get to the desert I'll be changing my secondary to mesmer and may end up putting some points into it.
Right now I have 12 blood magic, 11 curses, and 9 soul reaping.

I have an Ele/N that I use to curse and then nuke my foes, but I'm not necessarily going to claim that that's the best setup. I sometimes find myself deciding that I can be more effective by just nuking and killing stuff so quickly that curses are hardly worth the effort...
I've heard of people who go N/Mo in order to amass huge armies of minions, since they can heal them with monk skills to keep them alive, but they're not much good until they get a corpse to work with.
A N/Me could be fun to curse the heck out of your opponents, which is a combo I intend to try at some point in the future.

Don't worry, I'll get on topic after this short message...

If you play that monstrosity in the Ascalon Arena, I'm not suprised you can hold your own. Yak's too. Go get in some armor made for the area youre in, rushing to Droks and getting Forge armor is rediculous. Also, you have a Superior Vigor rune?! You're nuts. Seriously, go take the forge armor off for something you can buy in Yak's, and see how well you do....
I hate people like you, who bring forge armor to arenas and think they're great. Do you have Spiteful Spirit also?
(/Rant)
Allright, back on topico!
I have an N/Me that I enjoy playing, simply because I can pile so many degen effects on any one target, and boost my health with Blood Magic. A really fun combo to play is N/W, because many necro spells force you to get into touch range anyways, and you can beat the snot outta someone with a sword/axe/hammer while bringing more degen on them.
Soul Reaping absolutly kicks butt in PVE, because so many things die. Especially if you run Death Magic and use a bunch of bone minions - SR activates when they die, turning them into living batteries.
In PVP, not so much - you don't want extra energy when something dies, you want it there when you're trying to make it die.
As for Necro with other combinations, I'll tell you what I use/have used...
Elementalist/Necro - My primary character is an ele support. When he was fighting his way through the missions, he used Water/Blood to pile on nuke damage, allthough right now as he fights in GvG, he uses a full skillbar of Water Magic, and no points in anything necro, allthough as soon as I get Feast of Corrpution, all that will change....
Ranger/Necro - Tried this once and wasnt too thrilled with it. Basically because Rangers dont mix well with much due to the needs of having 3 attributes filled and don't have much room for anything else.

I started a N/R for PvE after a E/Mnk, and it's a whizz! Minions are a fantastic asset. I've been wondering today if they've made the game easier since I was in PreSearing Ascalon, because soloing with Alesia my lvl 9 N/R walks thorugh the enemies, whereas with a party of three before we had trouble.
One reason to go with N/R is because when your energy runs out (and playing a spellcaster sooner or later your energy will run out) you still have an effective weapons instead of a poncey 5-8 staff/wand, plus the Pet and minions keep the enemy at bay so ranged attacks are what's best. Curse one with Mark of Pain and with arrows you're doing AOE damage along with the rest of your army. And later on the Ranger skills will provide some diverse playing options, when I finally get traps, but that's a long way off.

. Even at level 8 he can hold his own against level 15+ (then again he has forge armor and sup vigor/double health ups staff so idunno.) But N/Me IMO is best option for PvP and causing massive health degeneration.
