GW unbalanced too much?

Here's the formula I see that ANet has used to make this crap they call a game. Yes, I fell in love with GW, before the more recent patches. Before you flame though, read this through to the end and I can almost garauntee you'll agree with what is said. The last few patches have SUCKED. But to ruin this wonderful game, you need to SERIOUSLY unbalance it.

This means no more drops! You gotta' make a drop so freaking rare, that if you see a newbie item drop for your max-level character, you almost cry. I'm not talking an enchanted or magical drop, a normal one that does no damage at all. We're talking a twig that snaps when used.

Next you should add just butt-loads of enemies. I mean set the player and his team up agaisnt eight to ten at once. That way it's challenging and it takes years to go two feet. However, you can do better! While the party of four to six are fighting these eight beasts, make sure at LEAST three other parties of eight wander by and join in to make it hopeless. This is a sure-fire way to piss off your customers.

Now we're going somewhere. Let's do better though. Like mega-ultra-killer spells and skills that no player will ever get on that level of power. We're talking a poison spell that puts so many arrows on the screen in 1280x1024 that it draws them slam off to the left of the health-bar! Even with a healign wind +8 they'll be screwed!!

You can't go wrong with serious combat-system bugs that were not in the initial release either. We're talking bugs that throw a player off and make them go "wtf?" for hours after they've died. If the player normally take 0 to 5 damage, we need to take 300 to 400 randomly to keep it intresting. This way if they don't have some kind of freaking life-hack, they'll be sure to die.

Now, we need to make sure that the occasional decent drop the player gets is utterly useless for resale unless he/she wants to stand around in town screaming "WTS WTS WTS!!" for hours on end. That's right, you see those high-dollar runes in town? The ones that go for 2 platinum or more? When the player salvages one, make sure the freaking price is on 25 gold so it's useless if he can't use it or doesn't need it!

Next we should make sure that almost everything is unrewarding in the game. Quest items? Make them less than what is needed for the area. Give them experience, but no gold or decent items. Also make sure that if the player spends months exploring the entire map that they've wasted their time. We don't want to put a good weapon out in the middle of nowhere because it'd be too damn nice. Make sure you can laugh at the lv20 who wastes time exploring, in other words.

Finally, force the player to do what you think they should do. Afetr all, RPGs are about their own individual, unique experience, so let's ruin that too. Force the player who wishes to play solo or only with a friend or two team up with total strangers, many of who don't give a rat's azz about them or their quests. usually these peopl leave after it gets tough anyway, so they'll be solo in the middle of a thousand bad-guys anyway, right? There is the solo experience!!

Oh and one more thing. Let's make the NPCs way too weak to be of any real use to a player. Let's just put them in to taunt the player into taking them to an area with a billion enemies so the player won't die alone. Make sure they attract every monster on the map as well. This always helps!

I may have been a bit strong there but I am sick of it. If I could revert to an older version of GW like you can in UT, I'd do it. The game has become far too unbalanced for a character started recently without a ton of gold in the stash. I also notice that as I gain levels and progress, the game gets HARDER and not easier! Every freaking RPG in existance gets easier as you gain levels, HP, and skills. This one gets harder. WTF?!

I have been so upset with the lack of cash and absurd amount of monsters that I actually admire those who can program bots to do for them what used to be doable by a human being, and I am HIGHLY anti-cheat. Let me relist the problems and maybe they'll get amended in a future patch. If nto I can see this game dying.
  • Economy sucks, this is an RPG not a strategy.
  • Balance prices. if it sells for 2k, buy for at LEAST 500g.
  • Fix the drops. It's not fair to new players to be forced to grind for cash.
  • Fix the combat bugs. Nothing should do 300+ damage.
  • Fix the spells, the arrows should NEVER go beyond the damn health-bar!
  • Fix the spells, they shoudl wear off eventually, not stay for 10min.
  • Decrease the number of enemies in many areas. If a loaded party of six can't do it, it's too f***ing hard.
  • Make the NPCs useful to those who wish to play solo. They're too weak.
  • Make exploration rewarding in some way!
  • Make the higher-level players a tad tougher. It's freaking sad when a lv20 ahs to grind to get anywhere because even if he ignroes low-level mobs, he dies.
Ideas, suggestions, opinions? Has the once beloved game been damaged beyond repair??

I wanted to know who agrees or disagrees with this and why. I'm also looking for solutions to the grind. I am just a few kills from lv20, but to go ANYWHERE I have to fight a billion monsters and it takes hours. If I was rewarded with drops I wouldn't mind as much, but I am REALLY getting irritated with the game.

Allow me to sum up your main concerns.

True

There is no grind in the game. You can make 20k EASILY by the time you are to droknars. Thats more than enough money for ANY PvE char. If you're going to PvP USE A PVP CHAR thats what they are there for. You don't have to buy anything for PvP chars.
Quote:
Fix the combat bugs. Nothing should do 300+ damage.
Hmm?
Quote:

Your bar must be too short.
Quote:
Fix the spells, they shoudl wear off eventually, not stay for 10min.
Once again hmm?
Quote:

No really, hmm?
Quote:
Make the NPCs useful to those who wish to play solo. They're too weak.
I beat the majority of the game using Henches with a ranger.
Quote:
Make exploration rewarding in some way!
No you're not going to get rewarded for everything.
Quote:

Hmm?

I think you should at least beat the game before making a thread like this. If you tell me you've beaten the game I'll be shocked.

Exploration is rewarding, do you have a plasma sword? or any of those other items that can only be gotten in 1 place?

I beat the game four times, wiped characters, started again with new builds. Only this time I am playing on the most recent patches. I *NEVER* had issues getting the money I needed prior to this economy BS and lowered drops.

I also noticed this go-around that the number of mobs in the mid~later areas are doubled. I used to be able to go through an area without dying. Now I have a better build with runes and max armor, and I get wiped with a full party! yes, there ARE spells that somehow managed to make the subtraction arrows go slam off the GUI. I dropped 410hp in about two seconds. Had two people witness it and both were like "wtf was that?!", as was I. This happened right outside Mamnoon, by two freaking scarabs! The rest stands as well but I won't get into it.

I can't agree with everything said. A few things, but not everything.

In case you didn't notice, these 'problems' are found in any online rpg, it's part of rpg life, but there's a catch...

Game is free, go back to p2p trash if you wish. I have better things to do with my money.

It's more balanced than you think. I've tanked mobs of 7 with my W/N solo. All were melee and I nailed them. Are you sure you know what you're doing? Or rather, your team?

For every build there's a counter, I'd call that quit balanced actually. For every HUMUNGOUS UNDEFEATABLE mob of enemies you run into in pvp, oddly enough, there's a counter! ^_^

[I've seen one of my guild's prot monks tank a team of 4 in team Arena and I'm sure happy to watch her tank 4 aataxes... Note, NOT enchant spam based]

I think it's not that the game is too hard, I think you're not trying hard enough...

For a game that's free, I'll be playing this for quite a while yet...

Um I made a new char last week and finished the game today with 15k gold having been rushed through a lot of it. I don't even understand how you can claim something is too hard when people are beating it.

There are COMBINED spells to go off the gui, who cares. Unless you're talking about mursaat yes you have to get infused, of course you knew this having beat the game 4 times.

Once upon a time..

Hello

I think this is a case where THX's old thread applies rather well..

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...7&page=1&pp=25

Don't get me wrong -- I think you have some valid concerns. However, there are quite a few pre-existing threads on several of your main points such as farming/drop rates and the economy. Perhaps take a deep breath and wait a bit, and contribute constructively to those threads? After all, saying the same thing that someone else has said isn't quite as effective and helpful as suggesting ways that you think might improve or solve the problem.

BTW, as a long-time monk, I can assure you that poison will not "screw" over anyone if you use healing breeze to counter it. In fact, even without breeze, poison barely makes many blink. There's a reason why the poison + epidemic combo by itself was more of a laugh to experienced teams in tombs..

Although re-reading your post, do you mean some other type of condition? The only other thing I can think of at the moment is Spectral Agony, and that's also a laugh when you're fully infused..

Regardless, do feel free to contribute to the other posts.. and please keep in mind that there will probably be many people in the forums willing to show you how to meet some of those harder areas. There are threads also about setting up teams for different areas, as well as a wealth of guilds to choose from. I rarely pug.. why? Because I have a friends list that I can bug, and a ventrilo full of people that I can yell at when I need someone.

A guild does make a huge difference.
