This means no more drops! You gotta' make a drop so freaking rare, that if you see a newbie item drop for your max-level character, you almost cry. I'm not talking an enchanted or magical drop, a normal one that does no damage at all. We're talking a twig that snaps when used.
Next you should add just butt-loads of enemies. I mean set the player and his team up agaisnt eight to ten at once. That way it's challenging and it takes years to go two feet. However, you can do better! While the party of four to six are fighting these eight beasts, make sure at LEAST three other parties of eight wander by and join in to make it hopeless. This is a sure-fire way to piss off your customers.
Now we're going somewhere. Let's do better though. Like mega-ultra-killer spells and skills that no player will ever get on that level of power. We're talking a poison spell that puts so many arrows on the screen in 1280x1024 that it draws them slam off to the left of the health-bar! Even with a healign wind +8 they'll be screwed!!
You can't go wrong with serious combat-system bugs that were not in the initial release either. We're talking bugs that throw a player off and make them go "wtf?" for hours after they've died. If the player normally take 0 to 5 damage, we need to take 300 to 400 randomly to keep it intresting. This way if they don't have some kind of freaking life-hack, they'll be sure to die.
Now, we need to make sure that the occasional decent drop the player gets is utterly useless for resale unless he/she wants to stand around in town screaming "WTS WTS WTS!!" for hours on end. That's right, you see those high-dollar runes in town? The ones that go for 2 platinum or more? When the player salvages one, make sure the freaking price is on 25 gold so it's useless if he can't use it or doesn't need it!
Next we should make sure that almost everything is unrewarding in the game. Quest items? Make them less than what is needed for the area. Give them experience, but no gold or decent items. Also make sure that if the player spends months exploring the entire map that they've wasted their time. We don't want to put a good weapon out in the middle of nowhere because it'd be too damn nice. Make sure you can laugh at the lv20 who wastes time exploring, in other words.
Finally, force the player to do what you think they should do. Afetr all, RPGs are about their own individual, unique experience, so let's ruin that too. Force the player who wishes to play solo or only with a friend or two team up with total strangers, many of who don't give a rat's azz about them or their quests. usually these peopl leave after it gets tough anyway, so they'll be solo in the middle of a thousand bad-guys anyway, right? There is the solo experience!!
Oh and one more thing. Let's make the NPCs way too weak to be of any real use to a player. Let's just put them in to taunt the player into taking them to an area with a billion enemies so the player won't die alone. Make sure they attract every monster on the map as well. This always helps!
I may have been a bit strong there but I am sick of it. If I could revert to an older version of GW like you can in UT, I'd do it. The game has become far too unbalanced for a character started recently without a ton of gold in the stash. I also notice that as I gain levels and progress, the game gets HARDER and not easier! Every freaking RPG in existance gets easier as you gain levels, HP, and skills. This one gets harder. WTF?!
I have been so upset with the lack of cash and absurd amount of monsters that I actually admire those who can program bots to do for them what used to be doable by a human being, and I am HIGHLY anti-cheat. Let me relist the problems and maybe they'll get amended in a future patch. If nto I can see this game dying.
- Economy sucks, this is an RPG not a strategy.
- Balance prices. if it sells for 2k, buy for at LEAST 500g.
- Fix the drops. It's not fair to new players to be forced to grind for cash.
- Fix the combat bugs. Nothing should do 300+ damage.
- Fix the spells, the arrows should NEVER go beyond the damn health-bar!
- Fix the spells, they shoudl wear off eventually, not stay for 10min.
- Decrease the number of enemies in many areas. If a loaded party of six can't do it, it's too f***ing hard.
- Make the NPCs useful to those who wish to play solo. They're too weak.
- Make exploration rewarding in some way!
- Make the higher-level players a tad tougher. It's freaking sad when a lv20 ahs to grind to get anywhere because even if he ignroes low-level mobs, he dies.
