Minion problems or patch?

For the past few days I've been playing a new Necro in pre (I always have a pre character going to help people new to the game). My main is also a Necro lvl 18. Oddly, while running around the catacombs gargoyle area recently my minions were attacking and killing gargoyles at random. No problem there. The problem was I got no xp and no drop for the kills they made without my assistance. Now I'm no expert or game guru, but I distinctly remember the first time through with my main getting xp and drops when minions killed.
Did they patch this to have this effect?
Is this a desired effect or just another flaw in the patching?
Has anyone else noticed this?
Just wondering........

If you never attack, you get nothing back.

Somewhere between Boardwalk and Park Place

This happens with all allies or npcs in your pt. If you don't take action on the enemy, you won't gain xp from it.

This basically is inplace to stop people being lazy and making henchmen, pets and other NPC allies doing all the work.

hehehe, For a game that is supposed to take the grind out of gaining XP, they seem to be going the opposite way. Half the fun of a necro minion master is having your undead hoard lay waste to enemies, now potentially you get penalised for it.
As for relying on pet, thats farly hard as pets unlike minions don't auto attack.
Fair comment, on the letting NPC's do the work, such as Rurick.
I do honestly beleive XP should be shared reguardly of weither you are in a PC group or a NPC group as long as you are on the same screen as the kill. i.e. not sitting at the start of level as friends rush through to TP you at the end, or complete the mission.

see I dont know about that, I find if you want something killed right you got to kill it yourself . But also if the game is too easy then there is even less to do.

I noticed this also, but I didn't much care. It's just so entertaining to casually walk through the carnage your undead minions that missing out on a '0xp' sign popping up, or a few 3g items, doesn't seem to matter.

Dosen't this kinda defeat the purpose of minions if you get no xp or drop from their kills?
Seems like my mana drops when I create them.
Seems like I pay for them with that mana loss.
Seems like the game dosen't balance the necro if this is the way it goes.
In this "balanced" system necros have already got a penalty with no soul reaping skills and now minions are a negative factor. Gotta question that "balance" thing. No other characters suffer these penalties except mabey the ranger pet death 8 second penality. Wow a necro/ranger Minion/Pet based character has the greatest penalties for just exsisting. (Damn... just realized why my main is taking forever to get finished. she's a necro/ranger)

Hmm I dont think its has to do with attacking the enemies. How do heal/protect monks get exp if that really is the case?

Hmm, think of the bot program you could make! Take 8 henchies and command your character to run around the area and stop everytime a monster comes in range! Then even if you had 60% DP you would still clear the entire map by morning!

Oh, wait, can't do that.
