Beat the undead hordes
Bord
The other day I did the Undead Hordes mission with my lv 18 ranger and an all henchmen party (monk, ranger, mage and two warriors). We killed a lot, but we were also killed. I just continued fighting them, but got killed a dozen times. In the end they were all dead. Mission updated, xp points, skills etc. so there is no problem.
Is there a more elegant way of completing this mission? Which is not getting killed (so many times)? I want to perform better with my other characters, but don't know how.

when i did it we had 2 pyromancers which kept blasting firestorms and other aoe spells. then all you need to do is hold on, stay alive and pray the monks do the impossible and mass heal everyone. we died only once with the two nukers, i killed quite a few with my ranger, but nothing compared to the masses the pyros brought down.

I found that this quest is pretty easy if you group with actual players. Especially if you can get with a couple of monks. I did this quest a couple of days ago with a group of 2 monks, healer hench and 1 mes/mo, 1 Ele/ne, and 1 war/r. I played a smite monk and we never died once.

I always die during this mission, its pretty damn nasty. There can be up to 20 enemies around you sometimes. I was in a pretty similar situation to you. What secondary do you have? Mine was R/Mo loaded up on smite shooting judge's insight arrows. Damage was sweet (usually 100 per shot vs undead) but still got swarmed a few times. I usually end up 'zerging' it at -60dp.
I don't know what else will help other than waiting to do it at a higher level with a cool elite skill like barrage but that kinda defeats the point.
IMO the main problem with it is the timing can get really screwed up sometimes. I had one situation where all the mobs came down at once. There were about 40 monsters! After dying so fast I couldn't even cast anything or pull my bowstring back I just logged out and back in again. The mission could do with a little fixing I think.

It might be just chance.
The first time I did this quest it was easy. The hoards came up in small batches. They were spaced far enough apart that I could kill one mob before the next arrived.
I just went thru this quest again with another character. I got rushed with all the hoards coming at once. It was ludicrous. If the quest were this way every time then it would definitely not be worth the 500xp and two skills.

I have beaten this (with an E character) without dying, by always targeting the Monks/Warlocks first. But I actually believe this is one of those 'lesson' quests. In this case the lesson is that you CAN finish a mission with DP
If only more people would take it to heart!

1 tank, 1 dedicated healer for the tank, 2 nukers can clear it no prob.
or can also have a smiter.

I've done it solo with a 20 E/Mo, it was actually my solo build, and smites rock vs undead. I did die once when i got slowed and couldn't get to the casters in time. Just bad timing on my armor skills running out.

I did that quest like six times with a group of four. We'd finish it, then abandon it back in town before getting the reward. Then we'd get it again. Great farming. I got like three golds and a crapload of purples.

Just get some smiting monks. They do double damage against undead, so a high powered smiting monk has the power of two characters for that quest, since all of those enemies are undead.
They added a Bone Dragon to the enemies recently, too, I believe. Pretty sure it wasn't there the first time I did it (when I did it five times just for fun with my smiting Elmo, by picking up new characters to play with). I'm glad they did that, to add a sort of cap to the end of the mission. =)

Well I guess this is just not a rangers mission. You have to hit a lot of enemies simultaniously; sort of area damage. I also had trouble selecting the right target. I mostly go first for healers and the guys with the hocus-pocus. There are so many enemies that mouse-selecting becomes an art in itself. The henchmen and the pet are are blocked and I don't know if they keep on fighting or just try to reach the target in the back and do no damage at all.
With my second ranger I'll go with humans and use edge of extinction. Anybody used a warrior with cyclone axe? You can probably lawnmown yourself through the group.
You can always do the mission, no matter how many times you get killed. While you are your nine seconds out to think over your sins and sorrows of your virtual life the skeleton monks do nothing, not healing themselves or their buddies. Good thing. Who says that human PUG's sucks?

Did this on a newish character, not done this particular mission for a month or so and was a tad staggered by the change in it. I mean a bone dragon ? Could at least made it a boss...Or is Rotscale the only boss bone dragon in the game ?
Anyway, got fed up of being slaughtered so I parked myself at the res area while I got myself a cuppa. When I got back I settled down to watch the bone dragon, 2 warlocks and a mesmer take on a couple of undead monks and about 5 rangers.
I enjoyed it, no idea why they attacked each other, to be honest - saved me a job..

This is not ANYBODY'S mission. For one this hard give me 50000xp, about 5 skills and about 50000 gold to complete. Also maybe 5000 attribute points.
Just joking, I beat this on my third try. Of course I had a dp of 60% however.

I think they made this quest alot harder from updates since i remember doing this with my elementalist, my first character a little bit after the game came out. Me and hench finished the mission easily with only a few deaths. The mission was sooo easy then, but when i tried it with my now lvl20 ranger, i would constantly die and eventually finished it with 60dp.

I remember beating this as a Ranger/Elementalist. The key for that class combo is Dual Shot (or Barrage, if you have it), and Ignite Arrows (or Conjure Fire if you have Barrage). Bring a PBAoE if they get too close. Smiters have this one easiest, though, what with holy damage and all.
Of course, my team helped alot, but I was also very usefull.

Is there a more elegant way of completing this mission? Which is not getting killed (so many times)? I want to perform better with my other characters, but don't know how.
the best tactick in this guest if u use henches is this:
kill them so fast as u can and every time when u die try again and kill frist
skeleton sorchers and hounds and then those restless and low levelest monsters i compelted this guets coppuoyle days ago whit henchs.

If you have monk as a secondary, bring judges insight, turns all your dmg to holy dmg and undead take double from holy dmg

I just did this (with henchmen) with my 20th level Mesmer/Necromancer. That is not a good combination for dealing mass damage very quickly, lemme tell you. I died numerous times, but did manage to chip away at the hordes until I won. Whenever I resurrected, I would first wait out the duration on the assorted bone minions/horrors, just so there would be fewer critters to deal with. Then I went after the monks/clerics, and so on. Just takes perseverance, if nothing else.

what quest is this? the one in beetletun?

Did this no more than a week ago on a newish ranger. Group with 2 elem/necro's, ranger/monk, monk/something, and a warrior/monk, and something else.
No one died. Just used judges insight with arrows, along with the fire damage from the elems and it was easy.

you know.. Edge of Extinction works wonders, aswell as a couple of monks seeding.
