Why so much complaining?
fezz47
Just wanted to put my 2 cents in about some of the posts I’ve seen lately on these boards.
Now first off, I see nothing wrong with people offering their opinion on the quality of a game, their likes dislikes etc. That’s what these forums are for. It makes sense to do this as the devs hopefully read these posts and will do things to improve the game.
But the thing I personally don’t understand are the number of posts complaining about the lack of things to do after you’ve done the main quests.
I’m at level 16 now and just checked my time logged in and it’s over 100 hrs! Now that’s about half of the mission quests I believe, so I have a considerable amount of the game still to play.
Now granted I suck at these type games as I’ve only played one other on-line game before and only for a couple of months. While I enjoyed this other game, the grinding, and lack of other players at my level made the game un-enjoyable after a while so I quit and saved myself 150 bucks a year.
So while I don’t have much to compare it too in this genre, I’ve already gotten more value from this game than most other games I have played. (and I’ve played a lot of em). I just finished Vampire Bloodlines, and while an excellent game IMO, it still only took me approx. 50 or so hrs. to complete. HL 2 took me about 20 hrs, and again, while it’s a great game, unless you play a lot of on-line stuff, (which I personally don’t like in an
FPS), it’s basically over after that amount of time.
My point is, what do you want for 50 bucks and no monthly fee? I’ve heard there’s going to be some new FREE content at the end of the summer as well as an xpack sometime next yr. Sure there are some problems with it, ( I personally hate the fact that you’re restricted where you can go), but lets face it nothing is perfect. Other than the original Deus Ex, which is IMO the best PC game ever made, I’ve already gotten more enjoyment and bang for my buck with this game than any other I’ve ever played.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree. Constructive sharing of issues so the game is improved is very important. However, some people just like to complain....... <shrugs>
Algren Cole
most of the players complaining about nothing left to do have clocked well over 500 hours and can't get mommy to buy them a new game. There is plenty to do in Guild Wars...and after your 500 hours go do something else. The problem is that the majority of the Guild Wars community is children 11-15. Summer vacation means they have nothing to do and thus they sit in front of the computer 14 hours a day playing Guild Wars...no game lasts forever, you got your moneys worth.....
Shadowdaemon
i dont know how many hours i have put into GW, but its been alot, and i still think there is plenty to do, right now i am saving up for fissure armor, by the time i am done doing that, i am gonna help someone else do it, and i still go back and try and see how much of the game i can do solo, and work on different skill combonations and al sorts of stuff, i really cant see how much more people expect from a game, but i think GW is GREAT.
Bwsk8
Guild Wars is a great game. The best computer game ever IMHO. But since there is not monthly fee and it is online things are constantly changing and need improvment. So thats why players complain. Not because the game sucks but because people get fustrated with things such as the trade channel and the item drops. If we all paid $15 a month then they would deliver results extermely quick. Therefor since we do not we have to wait for results and thet causes complaining.

auction house
bazarr
or some other more sophisticated way of making trade interaction was high on the list but did not give any timetable for implimentation
she did stress it was high on the to do list and not near the bottom though
Sir Skullcrasher
i don't think a auction house would be a good ideas.. since 70% to 80% of the players online for GuildWars are either selling stuff or trying to clear out their storage. If a-net did put a auction house in the game, most of the city or server would be half full or almost empty, which would cost people to team up with henchies instead of high level character.
*althought i could be wrong*

I agree. Deus Ex is the greatest game. Ever.

WTS, WTB spam
this would make forming a party easier as you dont have to sort out the traders from the form partiers.
auction house was only 1 of several options on the table
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF
PUTTING AN NPC TYPE *SALES BUBBLE * OVER SOMEONES HEAD FOR PEOPLE TO READ RATHER THAN SPAMMING WTS, WTB?

Anyhow more to the point. I think overall I got my moneys worth with GW, although I think the game was made far too casual in the beginning (atleast when Istarted playing it) and people exploited the snot outta it, although now with the recent nerf everyone is complaining. Also there is really no depth for people who expected this to be a MMORPG (notice I didn't say GW was a MMORPG, that's another debate). Not a good economy, PvP vs PvE, yadda yadda. That's just my opinion.
But did I get my 50 bucks worth, yea I guess so.... but I was really hoping for that the experience was going to last me til the next expansion. should the yardstick of how good the game is depend of if we're not getting charged a monthly fee?
Sanji
Pretty much the same reason you all are complaining or anybody complains for that matter.
They're blowing out hot air over something that frustrates them that they don't understand.

Nah, blizzard pretty much followed the SOE template and are taking their sweet time to fix important things, while milking the community for what its worth. Of course it could be more of the VUG policy than blizzards in this instance, but i doubt anyone outside of the loop truly knows for sure.
Then again ANET is taking the hardline against things like botters, while E&G turned a blind eye to them, but they are both under NCsoft...

I still say that ANet has offered more to its playerbase than any other company I've seen in any game I've played. They may not have brought forth much content yet as I suspect a lot of their time in this game's infancy has been fixing bugs and such. Who's to say that content won't be forthcoming more frequently as the number of bugs goes down? And even without content updates, ANet has been VERY good about patching bugs and exploits. You can't fault them there.
As for the complaining? It's just human nature, I suppose. No one can please everyone all the time. It's just that when some are happy, others aren't. When the others are happy, some are not. And, I think that if you asked most people, they wouldn't honestly see their posts as complaints. Most would view them as constructive criticism.

Well, one reason that you see so much complaining is because THAT'S the reason why alot of people jump onto the forums in the first place - they see a problem with the game and are hoping to get their voices heard.
Very few people join a game-specific forum for the soul purpose of praising the game in question. Sure some people create threads of support as a response to to the negativity..but rarely will you see someone starting such a thread purely as their own idea.
----
Speaking about the updates in particular, the way I see it is that alot of people who visit these forums have become bored of the game. I believe that many of these people are looking to each "update" in hopes that it will add some new/fresh content. This is why you see people complaining if Anet misses a week or two. Not because there's really any specific thing that they think needs fixing...just that they want something new to do (even though the updates aren't even really meant for that sort of thing).

And even if said update is something that effects them negatively, they can still have hours of fun whining/ranting about it on the forums! =D

People are complaining because ANet has been ruining an excellent game for quite some time. People were also promised things via interview/press release/etc that never turned up in the game. When people feel cheated, disrespected, and are generally unhappy with a product they tend to complain.
You'll also find it interesting that shortly after retail folks such as Standard AI, me, and other 'PvPers' were meeting a lot of flak for our ideas. However, it seems that the majority of the community feels that somthing must change. The reason for this is simple. The thread starter is lvl 16; he probably sees absolutely nothing wrong with this game, as proven by his post. I agree with him from his point of view, at lvl 16 nothing needs major fixing. Unfortunatley we aren't lvl 16 forever. It seems to me that currently the 'casual gamer' is at the same spot the power gamers were a month ago. This means they are seeing the same frustrations we did and are slowly switching views.

Exactly, they are running out of PvE, will be kept busy for a while with the new areas then they will have nothing to do and will see things our way when they realise PvP is like a million levels that are always different.

Now the problem with your statement is that people that complain about having nothing do mean they beat the game and done the avaible quests, we can say that because we have beat the game missions and done the quests and there is nothing else to do beside farming, replaying or PvP.
Problem is after I done with one character it becames boring doing it again, in fact I bet most people just rush new character after Yak's Bend because there is nothing new, class quests en in Yak's Bend and its the same old all over again.

This game have issues, if you think "lack of players of my level" is a issue just wait until you end up in a mission were nobody takes you because you are a mesmer/ranger/necromancer, wait until you have to beat 3 missions just to get send into another area and wait to the Thunderhead mission that tends to stuck players for a long time because groups usualy fail it.
This game lacks tradictional MMORPGs issues because it lacks the mechanics that creates such issues but it have its own issues.

A MMORPG sould allow you to live there as a single player game is just to make people to "win" the game.
Problem is Guild Wars allows you to "win" but not live and that is the issue, basicly this is a co-op version of single player game.

This is not a evolution of MMORPGs, this is a spin off evolution of single players games with a co-op mode taken too far.
Those are my 2 cents.

One problem with replaying, IMO, is the lack of monster variety. You see the same monsters in pre-searing as you do in ascalon, as you do in the desert. You see many of the same monsters, just with a different level and maybe different color of skin. Now after seeing the same monsters so much, it begins to get a little boring. If there were more exciting monsters, maybe I would be more motivated to replay the game.

I don't think you guys understand what I'm trying to say.
I've ALREADY gotten my moneys worth and I may have another 100 hrs before as you guys say, the game "ends" or boredom sets in.
But that's not the point of my post. If I play another 10 min. today and decide to remove the game from my hard drive, I'll consider it 50 bucks well spent. That's all Im trying to say.
And as someone said, this really is just a co-op mode of a single player RPG, at least if you're not interested in PvP which I'm not. Is the PvP game good? I don't know and don't care. But as far as the PvE gameplay, I think it succeeds which pleasantly surprised me as I'd heard that the meat of the game was PvP.
As far as comparing a single player game to an MMORPG or whatever this game is, why not? Money is money. I spent 50 bucks on KOTOR when it came out and played it for about 15 hrs. before becoming bored with the combat system. I personally thought the game was overrated, but that's just me. I spent 50 bucks on this game and have gotten over 100 hrs so far and enjoyed it. To me it's all about my hard earned cash and what I get for it, not what genre it is.
I only started the post to hear why people would think the game is lacking in content, and I appreciate everyones input. I still contend however, that dollar for dollar this game is a good deal.

If I play a game for more hours than how much it costed I'm happy, I've played GW for 390 hours, I'M VERY HAPPY! THis is more than all my other games COMBINED! I dunno why anyone is complaining.... Of course there are some bad things, it's like that with every game, and GW isnt an MMORPG it's an ORPG with player areas basically player hosted, just like the new .hack game that's going to be coming out! You guys should be like, practically bowing to A-net for giving you updates....

I agree with ur post been over pre-searing so many times its not funny but enjoyed it just for fun
Finished the game with one char deleted him and other chars are lvl 20 still heaps to do I try and play as much as possible and still enjoy the game try and make it so we can have a laugh in team missions etc
Really not sure at all about this auction house as will it will do is encourge people buying gold from ebay so in the end its the ones who can buy the most gold will be able to buy and it can be open for abuse by some member upping the bids to keep them up high etc
can see it being another area that will be open for abuse in many ways

I would have to agree with the original post this game is amzing. 49.99 and no fees and I am utterly addicted. So ya i a lowly level 7 who just went post and ya i havent beat the game yet, However I have been playing RPGs since DragonWarrior for the first Nintendo, Not to mention the some 200 plus RPGs I played since then. I DO know what i like and I like this game. the characters you can build, the exploation, everything about it. Yes it has problems in some areas, and yes people bitch thats what people do, But you find me one person, just one person who can tell you that they did not get their 49.99 out of it. I just wanted to agree is all.
