Dump the freeloaders
Bethany
Here is something I'm seeing more and more these days: damn freeloaders. Last episode occured in Granite Citadel where I formed a group for skill cap in the Mineral Springs. Anyone who's been there know that you need a full 8-member team to deal with the nasties there.
Our group went along well right until the cave with the Seer. Then, one of the warriors decided to backtrack in order to pick up all the loot left behind while the rest of the team was fighting Avicaras like mad. Along the text on the bottom of the screen I could see all the stuff he was picking up. Once the big fight was over we messaged him to stop but instead he chose to call us crybabies. I told him that proper etiquette while in a team dictated that the leftover loot be shared among the team members. He simply responded that he didn't care about the team and left. Back in Citadel I made sure to let people know he was a freeloader.
ANet should make it so the reserved drops remain reserved until picked up by the person to whom it was intended. Or, check the loot around when you fight and make sure you pick up what's yours.

Funny how you say it was a Warrior... Nothing against those Warriors who have skill and the like blah blah, but I believe Warriors are the largest profession right now so with that many numbers there are way more chances that a warrior you'll bump into is the typical teen-douchebag.
With that being said anyone could be a douche like this and whenever I run across someone like this I just ignore them; there will always be another chance for pick-ups and such.

Had an Afker/potential freeloader earlier while attempting the ice caves bonus mission. There was the usual mix of people with two monks, myself and the afker. We didn't notice he was afk until about 20 minutes in (95% of missions are fine with one healer), and no one really wanted to go to all the trouble of trekking back to restart.
In the end though, the freeloader didn't get anything since Evennia decided that even tho everyone was going one way, she was going to run off and fight the mursaat... psycho woman. Needless to say, she died in about .3 seconds.

Well the thing is that if you really get something worth picking up, you'll walk over there and pick it up. Allot of the crap dropped really isnt worth the time and effort to pick up, espesially if your in low level areas. One mans junk is anothers treasure i guess, or however that saying goes. So i suppose they should keep it the way it is.

Well, I usually pick everything that belongs to me, even the white items. I just finished a nice run in the Mineral Springs and I made close to 3k selling all of it. I think it's pretty worth it. Overall, I still think that whatever drop is reserved to you should remain to you.

A team leader should be able to kick people.

Granted, but you get more satisfaction from corrupting a Democracy.

if you want the loot then grab it at the end of each mob fight. if you don't then its open game.
Not saying its right to leave the group to go back and pick up loot but at the same time if the loot is there then it means the person that it was reserved for did not want it so its fair game. period.
P.S. I don't want to hear it. if you decide not to pick up loot then it is fair game for the next guy.

I have never had a problem with this. If I get any drops that I want, I pick them up immediately after the fight is over. The existing timer is more than adequate for that. If I don't, and they want to run back, it's their problem. However, there is also a range on item drops. If they run back while you're fighting, they risk losing drops as well.

i have it all the time in the iron mines mission there whas a yup w/mo that joined us and went afk after whe entered the mission whe all died because whe took teh wrong way (the way with all those friking mursaat) and he yust keep being afk after half an hour he got back and left our team
Aracos79
I always pick up all my drops, as useless as they may appear. It only takes a second or two and if it's really important to you, there's no reason whatsoever not to grab them.
As for freeloaders, I simply won't ever give them the satisfaction. If I see one in our group, I make my apologies to the group, and I leave. Some of you might think that's not fair to the rest of the group, and you might have a point. But I simply won't be a party to someone benefiting from my work.

And what about not having room to make your pickups, that is almost always my case, I only have 4 - 6 empty spaces for loot, so I pick and choose what I pick up. Also, don't categorize all Wa/Mo as jerks, though most may be, it's the one reason I don't go around doing "LFG" all of the time, I figure if someone wants me they can ask me, I don't need to advertise.

Freeloaders: the hard decision is whether you want to go on with 7 or not. If you feel its not possible to continue than go back to the city and start anew. If you want to go on you can either ignore him or lead a horde of nasties to him and let him die

Then why don`t you pick up what you want then pick up and drop what you don`t so the guy doesn`t have to wait for the timer. I don`t agree with leaving your group for anything but nothing is more annoying than seeing something you could use go to someone else, asking them repeatedly if you can have it only to watch as they "rush" to the next monster leaving the item laying.
