Anyone else getting progressively worse performance?

When I first got GW it was running great, and playing it was enjoyable. However, as time passed, I noticed that performance started getting worse. Lag increased a lot, there's a lot of "blockiness", and sometimes, my computer would freeze for a couple second, somtimes completely freezing (which made me switch to playing it in window mode). I decided to put the quality to lowest to make it faster, but there was still was lagginess and some occasional slowing down. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this, and if they have any tips/solutions to help the performance.

Just in case,
ATI Radeon 9600
Windows XP
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
512 RAM

Yes. My default response is "I blame teh bots".

But I'm expecting improvements when the summer update rolls around.

i noticed that one of my older games, that worked fine befor i updated to DirX 9, now looks like when i had my older-less powerfull vid card lately. while my guildwars seems fine (appart fro the obligatory Euro Lag lol) my morrowind lags badly now, even when i keep my mods down to about 5 or 6 new texture mods and the rest in game texture.

(found out that the more new textures you add, the harder it is for the game to run smoothly lol. after a particular hefty set of downloads for it, i was cut down to exactly 28 mins per go lol. then when i kept it down to 5-6 new texture and the rest from the game texture, i could pay for hours)

so....i would check to see you hadnt downloaded anyhting else that was giving your machine the hic-ups. make sure you have a spyware and trojen ect cleaner and kick anything you dont use anymore that you dont think you will go back to. might help ease the machine.
also, check to make sure your processor fan is clean, same for your Vid card fan (if it has one) and see if theres any funny noises comming from your vid card or heat sink fan, in case they are warning you that they need checking
i lost a couple of geforce 2 fans because i didnt listen to them, and they ended up with knackerd bearings. so now i just prefer the heat sink cards

in my case, the game is sometimes almost unplayable: lags every 10-20 seconds, but (afaik) just in some locations (it seems to me that this problem is much worse when i am on a quest and something is happening -- combat for example). when i move from some really laggy place to an outpost, the game runs again smoothly.

lags are of different types, from probably no response from server, but client normally active, to completely freezed client for quite a long time... but since i am in europe, i thought (and still thinking) it´s just due to known situation in europe region and i hope it will be better some day again...

Nope, that happens here in America too. But its not as bad as Europe has it.

yep had the same problem with mine same card
you will find alot of information on this thread
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=10039

I did try rolling back the drivers to 5.5 I think it was that didnt work
Tried everything nothing works
Changed Bio's format hard drive clean install memory change from 512 to 1G (new memory) blah blah etc
you can try opening the case putting a fan on this works for awhile but the process is it delays it from crashing sooner but it still will and the intervals between the crashes become lesser I am talking about breaking down over a few months to crashing in intervals of 3-5 minutes
so now down to using the onboard graphics it works not the best but no crashing.
And I really do put it down to bots somehow on your graphics drivers it picks up the script etc the more your pc is exposed to this bot script the worse it gets faster in crashing intervals
I noticed an increase in areas where there were bots running and timed to work out with the first lot of chests around the exit of the portals
It appears as if its overheating or a memory leak
For me it started about the beginning of May in the Catacombs at first no problem but then I could not go through the catacombs at all without crashing it seemed to me to be a training ground for the bots then other areas and I noticed bots running in those areas too
This is my theory anyway and do not see it as a fault of Guidewars, how does the updates affect the increase in the number of crashes again its because of script running on script and with the bots script conflicts in data for the graphic drivers
(sounds like a witch hunt blame the bots) but this is my personal thoughts on the matter
Maybe someone else can explain it better
In the process of changing graphics card and running some more tests.
