First you nerf me, then I'm addicted to faction, now I'm getting married???

"I learned there will be another wedding in Tyria soon. How great it would be to be able to purchase a gift for the bride and groom, or to help them buy special wedding clothes. Sure, items like gifts and special clothes are going to take an inventory slot, and of course, not everyone is going to be enchanted with the whole idea. But I predict if we had such things as hair stylists, town clothes, and snazzy useless-but -fun items that we could share with one another, an awful lot of players would be more than happy to spend a great deal for those options. I know I sure would!" - Gaile Gray
Normally I could just sponge something like this and not comment on it, but since I haven't played much GWars in this past week and I'm a lil' low on cash and faction I had to vent on this. Gah, where to start?! I cannot get over the 'snazzy useless' items thing. I don't want useless items, how about you give me less opporunities to spend my money on useless items and give me more opportunities to spend my cashes on PvP items. After 3 months of RP farming, capping and the like I'm starting to get REALLY bored of rp and would love to just have every skill unlocked. It's not something that I would stop playing GWars over (seriously you think I'd go play World of Warcraft?) but it would make my sweet sweet characters life a lot easier to get some mad skillz, and maybe some sweet muhlah (some more faction would be nice, it is way more addicting than Gold.)
Okay there was no coherence to that and I feel much better now. All I ask is please don't worry about RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing weddings in an MMORPG; if we want to do each others hair we would go play the Sims2.
thx for the Faction

This is a PvE thing.
As has been said by Gaile, PvPrs have been getting alot of attention recently with the faction system and many previous systems to try and balance PvE farming for PvPers.
Now the PvErs are getting our turn. We're getting our huge explorable area, and the fluff items that so many call for. (And simultaneously, another gold sink that so many call for.)
What's the problem if you're a PvPer? You just had a turn, and don't worry, you'll get another one soon enough.

what are fluff items? teddybears?

More attention for PvE... hurrah! I know Guild Wars was designed with PvP in mind, but the devs did give us a nice world to explore, and I for one love doing it. Roll that beautiful PvE footage.

I think it's worth including Gaile's other paragraph on the issue. (This precedes the one quoted by the original poster (It's in regard to specifically new hairstyles and stylists.)

I think this is a marvelous idea for a game addition! I cannot predict if it would be rolled out in a free live update or would make its way into Chapter Two, but I just have the strongest feeling that this will be an addition at some point in the future. After all, it serves two functions: It would allow greater customization, which everyone favors, and it would also serve as a gold sink, that is, a way of draining excess currency out of the game economy. |

I think that ANet has struck a nice balance between PvE/PvP. They work one side, then the other. If they include things like this I would guess that even hardcore PvPers would go and change their look as well.
Oh I know, I know...fix the balance issues, add more maps for GvG/PvP, etc. That will happen as well.

The beauty of this is that they are "useless" items. I'm 100% + in favor of these... for me they make the game fun. I tried Sims2 but it takes too long to kill people... And they're not interactive enough. The great part about it being "useless" is that much like faction in reverse, it has no bearing on PvP. I have the same amount of faction as I did the day they introduced it. In one or two months I'll probably still have the same amount (somewhere around 0, give or take a few). Don't sweat it, and pls don't get upset because somebody other than you is being catered to.

When I'm pvping I imagine the people losing bladder function with a green diamond over their head before they fall down.
Sorry couldn't resist. I would give almost anything short of a monthly fee to make my character different from the rest..ran into another clone of myself the other day and it was like lookinig in a mirror.

am i the only one who thinks of the green exclamation marks over quest-giver heads as plum-bobs?

yeah don't worry I wouldn't get bitchy over someone disagreeing with me. I just think that there are a few more pressing issues to deal with before we get onto the fine details of accessorizing. I actually don't mind PvE. However to make PvE more fun for me I would rather have some new territory, farming making a return (it was fun to hope that each time you pwnt face some nub monster you get some uber gold drop), or something along those lines. That's just me though and I'm sure some people love green diamonds over their faces or would love to do some interior decorating in their house over-looking the Ocean on the cliff on the Druid Guild hall Island.
Anyways this is wasting precious time I could be getting sweet, sweet faction.

i agree with the original poster...i've used the "go play the sims 2 instead" line a few times myself
