Not that I know of.
Personally I get the feel the entire Dragons Gullet area is unfinished - there's nothing there and it doesn't lead anywhere, it's just sortof an appendix with a cartload of (for that area) difficult enemies. I've been wondering if some future expansion is intended to connect to that area; if so there might be a story behind those undeads.

I wondered if there were plans for expansion, as well.

Intersting, don't think I saw anything like that when I explored it awhile ago. I've always kinda thought it would be neat though to revisit Ascalon sometime after the endgame in the Ring of Fire. Is Adelbern still in charge? Are the Charr still breaking the kingdom down bit by bit? Looking at the world map the Southern Shiverpeaks areas aren't too far south of Rin and the burned out wreckage of Ascalon, I can just imagine our heroic ascended characters making a perilous journey back over the shiverpeaks to see what's become of ascalon since they left...Maybe a story for a later expansion to tell?

Yea, I even saw one in one of the Team Arena PvP maps.

I fully explored the area, and there aren't any "misty glowing" zone portals. The abominations may be caused by a rogue necromancer, like the various stone elementals are attributed to elementalists. They aren't "undead" like the enemies in Kryta, since they aren't from Orr.
