Things That Annoy the Crap Out of Me
Relgar Wraithclaw
Below is a list of things that annoy me greatly. My suggestion is to fix all of them, preferably within a reasonable time frame. 1 year is not a reasonable time frame.
1) Ridiculous lag - I have a shared connection and I know I get some lag spikes sometime, but with the frequency and severity of lag and jumping around that I experience I know that it cant always be me. I may jump to 3 or 4 places on the screen before finally settling at a spot. Sometimes when I am running and I start an attack my character keeps moving. I wind up about 400-500 feet away from the mob I am attacking and swing at thin air. The lag is horrid. Maybe its A.nets way of getting us to quit playing? Then they would have to pay for less bandwidth.
2) Horrible chat setup - Lets say I'm starting a group. I advertise for people to join and get several responses. The town/outpost is either huge or packed with people so I cant find the people to click on them. I have to manually type out each name in the invite box before clicking add. This is annoying and stupid. Chat setups in other multiplayer games I have played have been more advanced than this for the past several years. It really should be easier.
Also, I should be able to hit Tab to cycle through the last few people to message me. I dont want to have to scroll up the window to see who sent what message, click the name box, type the first few letters for the name to pop up, hit down, then enter, then tab to move over to the message box. This is also stupid and unncessarily complicated. Again, games moved past this cumbersome, stone-age method years ago. Fix it.
3) Being attacked by a ridiculous amount of mobs at once - Even with groups of eight, if I aggro one monster I shouldnt be attacked by every single mob visible on the screen at once. I dont think theres any way to survive that.
Here's a link to an example. If you look closely and count my group is being attacked by 13 mobs at once. And thats not even all that were there originally, some have already been killed. Does this make sense to anyone else?
4) Pathing still sucks - I stopped playing for a while so maybe this was improved a little bit, but my character still cant figure out how to get around something that is directly in front of him. I still have to tell him to step left, THEN go forward. Why is this so hard for the computer to figure out? Henchie pathing also sucks, of course. Here's another example showing how marvelous and revolutionary the pathing system is. It shows Lina stuck behind a catapult. I'm the grey dot north of her on the minimap. Thanks, Lina. <3
That's it for now. I'll come back and post more when something else pisses me off. This should give A.net plenty to work on for a while, though.

hmm the lag shouldnt be bad, i have dial up 3kb/sec and its normally fine unless somethings interrupting the system when im downloading a page or somthing. maybe u should try to do a adware/ spyware scan.
johnnylange
I have shared DSL connection speed of about 3 Mbs and rarely I get some lag. I agree with MoldyRiceFrenzy advice.
About the monster issues, sometimes you just get a whole mob on you, best advice is to stick closer together.
I don't seem to have very many problems with pathing. Usually in town if run into the merchant or in missions pets get in the way alot, but thats about it.
On a side note I sometimes get people in a group using the "lag" excuse as to why they're not fighting...damn scamers.

Hmm i have cable and i always lag whenever skills are casted or when i enter the arena. Sometimes if i'm in crowded district and when i duel, by the time i enter the arena my teammates are already dead. I think it has to do with the computer or graphics card..
Also you said you had 3kb/s!?!?!?!? thats really slow... and yet you don't lag... i thought dialup was 56k...

1) sadly lag effects most of us, if not all... and it has since the days of the first online game, so it is something we have to deal with.. Not Anet's fault
2) i agree finding people is hard, and its hard to type in every single name.. ive never tried it but... if you wisper them can you just copy and plaste the name into your party window thing?... ive never tried it, but its worth a shot
3) Live and learn, ive pulled one guy and like 15 other follow, i guess Anet wants to make it a little difficult.. but to me it seems everyone in your screen is running around into the mob.. so its hard to tell exactly whats going on
4) dont get me started on pathing.. i hate feeling fat, i can save the world and slay every monster in my path, but throw in a gentle slop and im done for...

I forgot to add about adding people to a group...If they whisper me I just copy and paste their name in, other wise I just type it in. Whats so hard about that? lol.

What is your problem seriously? this is a free usage game that has been opened up to every person in the world.... and you complain that after each update it lags for a couple days? get over it. im sorry, but i've met alot of people like you that just complain, complain, complain! yes henchies don't do so good all the time, but this game is based around pvp so it shouln't matter most of the time.. and what you said about mobbing?.. that mission you were on was MEANT to be hard.. and you only aggro certain mobs. they always consist of aorund 4-6 creatures. if your aggro bubble hits more than one, then its your fault, not the games. so don't just complain about a FREE USAGE game. try to ignore the little things and practice alittle more so you dont HAVE to rely on the henchy ressing you.

#4 while i agree that the henchmen pathing needs some improvement you are in control of your own character you are suppost to control your character that means you need to move your character arround things sometimes ok.

The only thing I agree with you on is the lag.
I have a top of the line computer with the fastest internet connection my provider offers. Yet I still have to run on 'fastest' to get a smooth gameplay. And half the time it's NOT SMOOTH!!
I shouldn't have to play on crappy visual effects in order to get a halfsmooth gameplay. Especially with the system I have.
To everything else Mr. Complain went on about, suck it up and stop @#$%&ing please. Henchies are dumb (the AI needs buffing), pathing could use a little work, enemies are in groups just like you are (it's only stupid when two groups get aggroed when the aggro bubble hits one of them... i.e. glitch). It's a free game for everyone, all it needs to be is smooth and interesting.

If I recognize your picture correctly, that's in the Frozen Forest on the way to Copperhammer Mines. That area around the stairs is always difficult. There are 2 or 3 "overlapping" mobs and one of them is very large (8 or 9 creatures if I remember). The best thing to do is move in on the flanks, not charge right up the stairs. This way you have a better chance of not aggroing all the mobs and hopefully picking off the smaller ones.
As to your suggestions:
1) I don't think we have a right to complain too much about server status, as we are not paying for server maintinance through monthly fees. Granted a game should always function properly, but I think ANet is doing all they can.
2) I'll agree with you on this much. You should be able to click on someone's name in the chat scroll and get a menu of options (ie. invite, whisper, ignore, etc.)
3) Besides what I mentioned above, overall the PvE in this game is rediculously easy as it is. I don't think they need to make it any more mindless. :P
4) It's AI, what do you expect? If you want party members that won't ever get hung up on the scenery, get human players. AI routines will never be perfect. And you have to admit, they are MUCH better now than they were at release.

Thanks for not posting a ginormous flame. Maybe that area is slightly bugged. If so, it'd be nice if they fixed it. (This is the suggestion forum, correct?) Its rather irritating to have to make 3 or 4 runs into an area until you clear it enough to survive the fight. I'm not saying that it happens all the time but there are areas like that. I just dont see the point (or the fun) in a battle you cant possibly win.
As for point 4, yes it has gotten better. It still could use some work. Getting stuck on a rock 2 inches in front of you is annoying and the AI is still buggy enough to make you fail missions sometimes. Not all of us play at times its convenient to get a group and not all of us enjoy being in groups with people who dont work together. Sometimes the AI actually is smarter than people you can group with.

It's too easy already, they need to make it harder, 24 mobs aggroing would be great. But, if a group kills them all there should be some godly godly godly drop and only 1 person gets it. ME. lol
I personally have no problems with any of the list of complaints. Pathing has always been an issue in every game where people allow automatic pathing instead of keeping their hands on the keyboard and playing normally. AI pathing has certainly always been imperfect, but, we don't live in a perfect world, so, it doesn't bother me either. I learn to "adjust and accept" what the game offers in these catagories and play around them. As for lag, rare, very rare I experience lag and I'm on dialup as well, so it's probably your system configuration and of course your ISP service provider. There's more to connections than just the game server, your system, your ISP service provider, hubs, etc. etc. Mostly likely issues on your side of the system than the games servers.
The game is great, I hope they continue to make it "more challenging" though by providing even higher level mobs and more of them.

Well the AI, is definatly not as good as it could be, BUT I've only had minor problems with it, seeing as I've done every mission except the ascension missions and Moladune, with henchies, and came out victorious, there are easy ways of getting around their getting stuck like: Don't walk through tight spaces were they could get stuck in the first place. Given there are a few places they'll do that anyway, it doesn't often happen to me.
As for the click pathing, why dont you use the keys to move instead (unless your lazy )?
For the party invite thing, what is soooo hard about typing a few letters on your keyboard? (again lazy)
With the mob thing, well I don't know what to say about that except try and pull smaller groups, if it's not possible, find something to hide behind.
As for the lag issue that it seems alot of you are having, make sure your drivers are up to date, do virus/adware/spyware scan because it may slow you down.
If you've alreay done this and your still having lag issues, it may be your connection or because of the area you live in. DSL degrades over distance to your provider and cable is affected by how many people are on at the same time as you in your area, because it's shared.
So far I've found it easy to get around the in-game problems you stated, but for the lag I'm really clueless because it awlays runs fine for me, and rarely lags unless I'm playing around 5 PM or so.
These are just suggestions, I figured I should state that before you go into another post saying that I'm flaming you now, when clearly I'm not. (unless your lazy )

It's free usage. that's what a non monthly fee means ok? you only pay for an expansion every year or so... do you really think they can obey every wish? you really think they can fix every problem? does ANY game do that? there's ALWAYS a problem that people complain about. If you think GW isn't doing your bidding well enough, just move to a different game. i don't think anet will care much, It's not like you are stopping a monthly fee or anything.

yes, i may have been a bit hasty when i said it's based around pvp, but you have to admit that the pendalum has tipped a bit more towards pvp. people cap skills to use in pvp, or farm faction to get skills for pvp, they pay thousands of gold just to unlock a rune they dont have yet for their pvp character.. etc, etc. the pve environment is VERY rich i admit, but most advanced players in the game pvp in one way or another. it's just what i've seen in my experience.

Again agreed, which is why I look forward to this new areas being implemented, since PvP can get boring very quickly after the 30 match in a row... how do people stand it???
But that another topic.

Do you ever offer anything intellegent to say? Or do you just spit random things out and critisize others comments all day? Come back when you can say something intellegent.
As for the ORIGIONAL post.
1. Yes the lag is bad. A-net even adressed the fact that in Europe the lag is horrible, so they do know about it. But as others say, it's a free online game so server maintenance is a big issue.
speaking of free....**Flame on** All thoes who sit here and say "Well it aint free, we paid for the game...Blah, Blah, Blah", ya'll need to stop being stupid, you know what we mean when we say free, and if not, you really are dumb cuz your the only one who does't understand. I would also understand if A-net just up and decided to charge a monthly fee, with all thoes who dont appreciate what they have been trying to do to influence ALL online games, you need to be charged anyways for being so dang selfish. Let them work out their bugs, glitches, ect. Give them time, they dont have the huge budget like these other cash cow games. (More beer money in my pocket, whos complaining again?)
2. Back to the post.... Yes the chat setup has some work to be done on it. They really need to revamp it a bit. Maybe even add the option to click on the name and it automatically be added to your party invite available list. But as far as the cycleing through of the names, this has been know for AFK selling. A-Net has done a great job of keeping the selling boters away, If you dont believe me, go to Girian in Lineage II, it's like running a peg board.
3.Multiple mobs is hard, and yes I understand your not talking about the 4-5 or even 6 that attack. You mean the 10-13 mobs that are waiting together. I agree with that. I could understand if two groups of 6 mobs crossed pats every once in a while, but groups of 12-15 mobs need not be right next to each other. We encountered 4 groups of mobs heading to the cemetary. at 4 Charr a piece, thats 16 mobs, and only one group moved and they never went far. No group of 4 is going to be able to take that, it took us 30 min to get past that and it ended up being done by default (Dying close enough to a portal to REZ next to another town.) Thats an instanct that is crazy and needs to be changed.
4. Pathing has become alot better. It's still not perfect but it has come along way. I just dont know why you arn't able to just climb over that small rock or hill but hey, it's part of the game so oh well. Pathing is one of the last things to be worked on on my list, that is a extra, not a nessesity. If you get stuck then its called a glitch, SUCKS, but it happens. All games can get stuck and we all know that is is more important in GW not to because we cant just start back where we left off. Maybe even a command that can be used once an hour that can teleport you 5 feet or something (I'm Dreaming now). Sticking is a bad thing that needs to be worked on, but pathing really needs to be put on the back burner for later.
There are a few other things that need to be worked on but I'm not rushing them. The game is still fun, and it's still free month to month so a few bugs here and there dont bother me, I mean look at other non online games like neverwinter nights, it had bugs up the wazoo but is still a great game and it got alot of them fixed.
My suggestion, for now just play the game and instead of complaining here write an E-mail to A-net explaining the problems, where they are at, maybe a SS or two, and even a good thought as to how to fix it. This works alot better than "I hate this" "I want this" "This sucks" ect.. Have fun and enjoy the game, dont let the little things ruin the overall fun
Wiqqa
I agree on 1, 2 and 4 but about this:
"Being attacked by a ridiculous amount of mobs at once - Even with groups of eight, if I aggro one monster I shouldnt be attacked by every single mob visible on the screen at once. I dont think theres any way to survive that.
Here's a link to an example. If you look closely and count my group is being attacked by 13 mobs at once. And thats not even all that were there originally, some have already been killed. Does this make sense to anyone else?"
I mean... with an 8 ppl party (even if they are henchmen... they DO follow your target, and thats enuff most of the times) you cant kill 13 mobs? Gl trying to survive more than 5 minutes in fow or uw.
From your screenshot i see that your henchmen are everywhere... is that Claude trying to solo the ice thingie? if you call a target they will go on it (unlike some real players); sprint, put your body between melee monsters and your healers, and call the right targets (dolyak master -> arcanist -> siege -> beastmasters is what i do); i see you are a warrior, i suggest you to try W/E and bring a pair of wards with you (melee and elements), they really can turn a nasty battle into a piece of cake.
Some instances are difficult the first time, tricky the second, pretty easy the third... the pve part of this game is VERY easy, way too easy imho, i really hope they will add something more challenging in the expansion.

Lag any time other than this would be rendering or you have severe issues with the route your connection is taking (which coincidently would be an issue for your ISP, not ANet). If it's your connection then it would be most noticable when someone new enters a town.
Even then, it wouldn't surprise me if they use a bit of caching. This working on some assumptions, namely that maps are cached or that they already reside on the user end when you install the game. This assumption is fairly sound though, as constantly streaming map data is a bit silly.
Roupe
I have noticed that most monsters will return to their original spot if one moves out (runs out) of aggro range. This sometimes cause monsters to try to run into hills, and other obsticales -making it look stupid. Oh they also dont fight back if one would attack them with spells, while the stupid monster pathfinder insist on trying to ram the obstacle.
The chars in the northlands, are very eager to get back to their posts -especially those around the ritual site. Making them more vulnerable.

But what annoys me the most, is the constant cry for 1:class monks -especially at the later lvls. Second to that is the discrimination vrs 1:class mesmers, necros and rangers. Well -until my guildmates help my "unworthy" charcters across the hard mission.
I think the games needs a toggle button, which states if the player is a willing recruit or is unintrested. -that way monk characters, and others might stop getting spamed by desperate teams. Especially on mission maps
Perhaps even a npc that acts as a manpower agency -helping teams find willing teammembers.
