Looked around, didn't find anything that suited this thread.

Late Saturday evening I created a thread to get a Price Check on a gold axe I found. This morning, less than 36 hours later, I went to see if anyone had responded. I looked through page after page, and finally after 5 pages, I found my thread on the 6th page. 14 views, no replies.

I have posted a price check thread before with a coupe of items, because I wasn't sure of the value myself, no replies.

I know that people aren't required to post a reply, but the forum is there for a reason. And only people, it seems, with good items will get replies.

I am just wondering if there is a better way to implement price checks, so everyone who is curious about a price can get an answer.

Maybe have a thread for a different type of item. Such as a thread for price checks on axes, then one for bows, and one for staffs, and runes, etc... you get the point. That way price checks aren't buried under the weight of the constant flow of new price checks. And in that way, someone who might know about swords, or hammers, could post price checks for a bunch of people in the hammer price checking thread, rather than having to post multiple times in each different thread. So maybe, people are more inclined to post price suggestions.

Instead of 77 pages of threads, you'd have 1 or 2 pages of threads, specific to an item type.

Maybe if people are given an insentive to help with price checks, even on lower value items (for example knowledge that consistently being a helpful community member will make you more considered for moderator status) then there will be more successful price checks.

Maybe... but there is no incentive to post answers in the Tech forum, but people do it anyway to help others out with their problems. I post in there because I know people will appreciate an answer. I also post tech answers in other forums, because it is nice to do. I have the time, and some people aren't as tech oriented as others.

Also, with the same item in each thread, people can actually look through the thread to see if their item has already been priced.

Just before reading this, I asked the admins to create a new forum for each item type in order to help the community with their selling efforts. I do know how hard it can be to sell items here (well, since I started here, I've been looking after these forums like mad crazy trying to make improvements for you folks), so hopefully it will be approved soon.

A price check for each item is something I won't have right now, one should be enough. Most people can look around in that forum and find an item that is similar and debate what price to ask for.

Problem with a forum for each item: Us trade forum mods are going to have our hands busy trying to make sure every single person realizes there are guidelines there and they are STILL going to be in effect. 10 new forums to read in will drain me personally after viewing the first 5 pages of each forum. @_@ But I'll do it knowing everyone is a little happier at least.

As for the problem with selling items, I posted a little line of advise somewhere in one of the Sell forum stickies, but if you wish to keep an active trade thread, post more then just one or two items up. This leads to more interest and people will start to post, bumping your thread for free so to speak. (It will cost them their money for the item, but you get the idea.)

Another suggestion, is use the browser bookmark feature and bookmark your thread to find it faster then looking around in 10 pages when you wish to do your 24 hour bump.

Hopefully with new forums in place (soon?), there won't be as much spam or reason to have your thread bumped as much.

Theres just a list of information for the community.

Thanks,
EnDinG.

That's a great idea and it will probably halve the number of price checks. Searching for bow prices (for instance) can be really hard for various reasons. It should be easier to look at prices if all Horn Bows (again, for instance) are in one section. The hellish part will be getting people to post in the right place I would think.

The problem with price checks is that what something is worth is all relative, and things that aren't particularly valuable I would tell people, "that would only go for 1 to 5 K" which in my mind is absolutely nothing, but to a lot of players that's a good amount of money, and it makes a difference whether it is 1K or 5K. So I don't even guess. So much of it depends on how hard you try to sell it and how lucky you get finding someone who needs what you have.

Better than asking for price checks is just auctioning your item. The market is the best way to determine something's value. If you don't get any responses on its value, auction it off for a few days. Some items aren't worth buying even, and some aren't worth even respond to about their value. Consequently, if you don't get a response, try just dumping it with the NPC merchant in town.

Wow, I was just heading over here to suggest this. Hope this goes through.
